What do you mean "has the makings" I think it looks amazing. Although if you think you can improve it I'd like to see that too :)

Have you thought of using fishing line for hanging the plane ?

Thanks for the kind comments BF. When we first moved back home to China from Dubai in September last year, I messed around with layouts for a Flying Tigers diorama. Here's some photo's from an old defunct thread of mine. As you can see, it would have been a relatively large dio. I'm really pushed for space and I need that table as a work top when I'm busy with other dios. That's why I came up with the new diorama base and the idea of having call sign 47 flying over the other two P40B's in today's earlier photos.

Here's a close-up of the original Control Tower/Communications Centre manned by a couple of Aussies.

While their buddies are involved in a squadron scramble, these guys have decided they're not working today, so that mis-placed person in the mechanics green coveralls (Mr Fixit) has gave his mates in the Kuomingtan a shout. They've bravely come down from the mountains and the FT's are cutting a deal for a barrel of home-brewed beer. Old granny is the interpreter.

I might just have room to incorporate a Chinese building or a bit of landscape on the new diorama base. Dunno, we'll see how it looks.

Forgot to include this in my last post :eek:.
Have been messing with the layout, as I'm prone to do. Not sure that this one works. Think my best bet is to hunt for some suitable backdrop pictures on the net rather than clutter up the dio with superfluous scenery. The base also needs a bit more work on the "grass field".
Oh and thanks to BF for the fishing line suggestion.

Cheers

Further back in this thread; My response to CapitolRon on the same question.

Ron,
Two of the P40B's are Figarti - the other one's a 21st Century item. Obviously, I've messed around with the pilots, putting one of them into the 21st C P40B, and the other one into that FOV Jeep. I think the FT figures in the background and climbing into the cockpit of call sign 68 are Frontline, and the two Chinese Nationalist figures are from the now defunct Figarti range of Chinese Nat figures.
Come to think of it I don't think you can see the Figarti & Frontline figures in the background so here's a quick snap of them. (Need to add OLD GRANNY from the K&C SOHK range to act as an interpreter).

Bob's absolutely correct. Right, gonna have to trawl through my music collection and find something really obscure for the next change of signature. :):)

Cheers Guys

Actually, a better response to this one would have been;
"Well, they're mine Kevin...."

Harry,

Like the idea of the edging, that finishes it off a treat. As I said before (somewhere?) those BAR cannons and wagons match quite well with the K&CUK range.

Looking forward to seeing the terrain.

Yeah, these empty picture frames is the cunning plan I've had up my sleeve for addressing how I could tidy up the edges of all these dioramas I've been making using wooden chopping boards as bases. Basically, I use two different sizes;
400mm x 600mm
350mm x 500mm

The frames I chose have a 5mm strip around the inside edge where a picture would normall be located. I had the them custom made locally so that they simply drop over the dio bases and a touch of 2-part epoxy keeps them in place. The shop fouled up on the size of the smaller frames though and I'm still waiting for the replacement ones to be delivered.

Missus H chose the 2 ornate ones for the Charges dios (Light Brigade and Scots Greys) while my choice was the much more understated, elegant and stylish frames that you see in the Flying Tiger photos....:):p:p:).

Hi BF,
I think this is a better layout and the additional oilspills and vehicle tracks make the base look more like a busy forward airstrip right up there at the sharp end.
I need to do some work on the jeeps. They're FOV Battle of the Bulge items and need the weathering sorted out. I'll probaly get rid of the wooden platform and just keep the scene very simple. I also badly need to find a suitable backdrop picture. Problem with that is that I need some new printer colour cartridges. I can print in B&W though, so I'll see what gives.

Ooops....:eek::eek:
I've been messing around with a layout for a Napoleonic Display, but haven't posted any photos yet. Being realistic, I won't get this one done before I travel to Hong Kong and then Bangkok on 10th February. Guess I'll finish it next time I'm home in April. I want to keep it simple, just like the Light Brigade. Maybe add a hedge or something - maybe a small pond (?), dunno yet.

Harry,

In all seriousness it looks great, didn't know you collected Napoleonics.

Have you seen the upcoming Russians? that would make a good scene against the French Cuirassiers.

Jeff

Ok Harry I'll give you that it does look better with the tracks and oilspills. :) Good Job !!!

Harry

Hate to say it but I got your new strap line....again. Put it down to our music tastes being very much aligned. Must be our age.
I wont spoil it for other froggers but just leave you another line to the song.

Rudolph Valentino looks very much alive
As he looks up ladies dresses as they sadly pass him by.

Classic magic! classic band!

I completely agree, but I've kind of decided that this year I'm going to concentrate on EA, AK, Crusaders & Saracens, and the Crimea of course. There's still a few SOHK sets I want to get as well. In addition, I might dip my toe in some K&C Vichy French, just for a change of scene.
So Naps have dropped off my radar screen for the time being.

:confused::confused:
I was convinced that one wasn't all that well known - even by casual fans of the band. A curse on you I say....:D:D
Okay, I'll try again when I get around to it.

A picture says a thousand words - or then again, these could be screaming "Heid, you haven't got to grips with Photoshop yet".
Colours in these photos don't reflect the actual colours on the diorama base - or the figures come to think of it. I'll try and get some in natural light tomorrow morning.
I've left room for the Captain Morris figure that's being released in June and there's even space for a NEW LANCER FIGURE.....hint, hint, K&C UK. ;)
I'll tell you what though, that diorama base is HEAVY. Just as well I invested in some industrial strength shelf supports.
Cheers

Harry it's been a pleasure on a daily bases seeing the results of what you've been creating for your shelf Dioramas along with the photos you've provided. Seems like you've been at it 24/7 and your efforts have paid off in spades...The Lt.
