My Ravens played so poorly yet had multiple chances to win, erase a penalty here or there and it should have been a win, but on to Oakland, just need a win baby, once were in it's a whole new season and anything can happen...Sammy

Sammy,
I don't root against them except when they play my Steelers, but I tell you, in a way, it would be fitting justice to both teams if they don't make it. The Ravens plain just don't deserve it from their inconsistent play, it is ridiculous. They are so undisciplined it is unreal.

The Steelers have just flat out played awful defense when it matters. Today, thank God, they took off the 3rd qtr instead of the 4th, they came up with some big plays (sacks, int) when they needed it.

TD, The Ravens have lost on a missed field goal to minesota, they had the colts beat and threw a late interception, they had the ball at the pats 4 yard line and dropped a wide open pass to get a first down, we haven't played as terrible as you make it out to be, bad luck, bad calls, bad play, but we haven't lost to the browns, raiders, chiefs, the A.F.C. is tough this year, if we make it in as a 6th seed I'll take it, once your in you take your shots, if I recall the Ravens were not suppose to make the trip to Tennesee last year in the divisional round, remember how that turned out?? so I'm not throwing in anything yet, if you wish your team NOT to make the playoffs sounds like you have little faith in your team, not so on my end...Sammy

Yet another weird day in the NFL.

The Giants are out, the Jets, who their own coach thought were out last week now control their own destiny after beating the Colts (more on that in a minute), the hot and cold, up and down Patriots looked great today, and the Aints lost again.

Two weeks ago, it looked like Aints/Colts in the Super Bowl. At this point, throw a bunch of names in a hat and we'll see how things shake out.

The Colts; what in the name of God is their coach thinking; up by 5 with 16-0 on the line and the coach pulls Manning and most of the starters on offense and defense!?!?!?!

WHAT was this guy thinking?

Polian probably blew a head gasket in the press box; just about THE dumbest thing I've seen in sports.

Ever.

And that includes Belichick going for it on 4th and 2 from his own 28.

Just nuts.

Right now the Chargers look unbeatable, which means they'll probably lose in the second round....................

The Skins continue their offensive dominance. Third worse offense of the decade.:mad: I certainly have no faith in my team at the moment.

I'm really glad the Cowboys made the wild card at least...

the game with Philly next week should be a good one...

the December jinx has been put to bed...

Romo's poor play to close a season is sleeping next to it...

they could actually win the West's division by beating Philly and get a bye...

things really can change in two weeks...

this division is so tough...always the hardest...

out of 43 Superbowls...the West has represented the NFC 19 times...

the NFC West is always there...Philly...Dallas and NY are always strong...

that's a tough division for sure.

The only reason to explain the Indy decision was that for the Patrioits this became all consuming and that was the only thing they could think of and management didn't want that to happen (e.g., become an albatross). Earlier this year commentators were saying that the best thing would be for them to lose a game. It's hard to fathom but as fans sometimes we can't see the forest from the trees whereas sometimes you need to take the long view.

I don't know Brad...we were only talking about 5 1/2 quarters left in the regular season...I remember some ESPN commentators a couple of weeks ago saying that a coach sometimes needs a loss to motivate the team...but there were only 5 1/2 quarters left in the regular season...the move to bench Manning was kind of bizarre...I just read a story on Yahoo Sports that said Peyton never took his helmet off on the sidelines after he was benched...that's kind of sad...supposedly he is a football historian and the record was meaningful to him...

Brad,
The mistake the Patriots made was they won the Giants game going away and thought to themselves the Super Bowl was going to be a walk over, shame on them.

This was a bone headed decision by the Colts.

Now next week, their starters will be pulled after what, one series vs the Bills, so now that is two games they took time off from.

Couple that with the first round bye, so that's a month of taking time off.

If they face the Patriots in the second round, they will lose.

Bank on it.

Just like in 2005, where they coasted the last few weeks of the season and got punched in the nose by the Steelers, the same thing in 2007, where they got beat by a BACK UP QB (Billy Volger says hello), with Gates and LT out most of the game.

And you should write a big thank you note to Cauldwell as now your Jets will be in the playoffs as the Bengals will now mail it in next week vs the Jets after clinching the division yesterday.

This week 16 and 17 mailing it in after clinching a playoff spot thing is unfair to all the teams still fighting to get in, end of story....................

Maybe it's unfair but as the team already in the playoffs, you have to do what you think is right for your team. I think the mistake the Jets made this year is the QB. From what I think I read, they have the number one defense and running game and what has held them back is the QB. Had they had an experienced QB, there would have been no question about being in the playoffs or perhaps winning the division.

You can thank that bone headed management decision to get rid of Pennington and bring Favre in for one season; the only people who made out on that deal were the companies that sold all of those green #4 Favre jerseys.

The Jets have what appears to be a QB for the future; he needs to make better decisions and stop throwing horrible passes. They should just run, run, run the ball and throw to their tight end and Edwards over the middle and stop worrying about the home run ball...............

...I just read a story on Yahoo Sports that said Peyton never took his helmet off on the sidelines after he was benched...that's kind of sad...

He does than whenever he is pouting Mike; after the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 playoff losses, he wore his helmet off the field, the only time he took it off was after the 2006 AFCCG and the 2006 Super Bowl wins.........................

Any Saints fans of old have a spare paper bag that we Vikings fans can put over our heads?? This is embarrasing!

It broke my heart to watch my Colts give up a perfect season.... it would have been a good, close game against a Jets team with everything to play for.

I read the same article on Yahoo mentioned above, and agree, that's not what the NFL is supposed to look like.

Although Sanchez is a rookie, he does have a troubling tendency to repeat the same mistakes. Moreover, he didn't play that much in college (only 16 as a starter) so he may need more seasoning than other rookie QBs.

I think you missed the point of my post. I don't care how the Ravens or Steelers lost (by the way, the Steelers losses I believe are all 3pts or less), the fact is as they say an "L" is an "L". My point is this, the Ravens are the one of the most PENALIZED teams in the NFL, not every Officiating crew is making bad calls. That is just plain bullcrap and not true. It's not everyone out to get the Ravens. Harbaugh needs to get that under control and take responsibility for it. If you don't see that, then you have drunk too much Ravenade. When a team loses a game, there is NO ONE to blame but that team.

Also, late interception on the Colts, that is what good teams do, the Steel Curtain has made a living off of key plays for 40 years and it has resulted in 6 Superbowls.

Furthermore, am I pissed at my Steelers, YES, wholeheartedly, because they have plenty of talent on the field not to lose to the teams they did and put themselves in this position. I do believe it would finally wake them up if they don't make the playoffs. Now, next week I will be rooting against the Ravens, a loss helps my Steelers make the playoffs.

GO BLACK AND GOLD.

Clarification on my last post so it doesn't seem like I am singling out the Ravens. Basically, every team has put itself in its own position. There is no excuse, if you lose, you lost the game, not a bad call, bad luck, etc. First of all, teams make their own luck by hard work and execution on Sundays.

I get tired of seeing the complaints on the calls, look, for the record on Sunday, Derrick Mason fumbled the ball, he caught the ball, took 2 steps, then fumbled due to a big collision, guess what........incomplete pass. Bad call, yes, does it matter? No, it happens.

As for "luck", the great teams make their own, the defense/offense comes up with the crucial play when needed, that is what being good/talented is all about. Again, another comment that is tiring. This is fact, I am not down on my team at all, I am disappointed, but I still root in earnest.

Let's analyze the Steelers, plain lack of execution, period. Talent is there, no excuse. Troy is hurt, so what, there are 3 other starters in the secondary stinking the joint up week in week out.

Now, looking forward to an exciting finish, may the best teams win this weekend. Even if my Steelers don'tmake it, I will still enjoy the playoffs immensely!

Morris is still the Mayor of Perfectville...population 1.

Mike,
Thanks for the laugh, I'd love to know what color the sky is in Mercury's world, he's chopping but no chips are flying.

So the 72 Doofins are still the only perfect team ever in football. I have a feeling that record is never, ever going to be broken.

Watched the 2007 regular season finale yesterday on the NFL network and still cannot wrap myself around how the Patriots hung 38 points on the Giants in that game and only scored twice in the Super Bowl.

By going for the undefeated season and letting all the stops out vs the Giants, they gave them plenty of ammo to use to come up with a way to stop them, how ironic is that, had the effin Ravens beaten them two weeks prior, that last game would have been meaningless and none of the starters would have played.

What a killer.

Nice link from the barstools site of the hottest 25 bartenders in Boston, Jonida is very good friends with my cousin, have met her a couple of times, she's a sweetheart...................

Sign, many NFL fans/"pundits" need some serious help. I did enjoy the "Chicks at Fenway" link though.:D
