N.f.l. 2009 (2 Viewers)

The best thing I can forecast for today's Skins game is that it is FINALLY the LAST game of this season. Ironically, it pits their soon to be fired coach against former ignominiously fired coach Norv Turner:rolleyes: who seems to have certainly found himself in San Diego. Perhaps this bodes well for Jim Zorn. Amusingly enough, the Skins have only once matched Turner's 1999 10-6 record since then.

New England lost which means that the Jets are going to have to earn it because now the Bengals have a little something more to play for. I suppose if I were them, I'd rather play the sixth versus the fifth seed (although I suppose you have to wonder how much of an advantage it is).

Steelers are still in it Tom :)

Were the Vikings this good...or were the G-Men this bad?

It's time to root for the Cowboys!

A combination of the two, unfortunately. Don't know why they played Eli. When it was 24 zip, I flipped to the Steelers Dolphins game, which was much more interesting.

Well, the Steelers almost pulled the usual, but thankfully we won. Playoffs or not, I am glad we won.

Go Raiders, Bengals and Chiefs......................D*** Patriots............

Its official, the Steelers have missed the playoffs.:mad:

Well, it's down to two teams for one spot: Jets and Texans. I don't have a whole lot of confidence and it should boil down to the respective running games and since the Jets have the best running game in the NFL, go Gang Green!!

All the teams are set now; the Jets got in, did they carry Ryan off the field, I hope not for the players sake.:D

The Patriots are toast, Welker is out, torn ACL and MCL thanks to Pollard, aka, the season ender. He got Brady last year, now Welker.

I'm going with Chargers and Cowboys in the big dance, they are the two hottest teams going into the playoffs and it's not how you start, it's how you finish and they both looked great down the stretch...................

My team the Rams won the battle to get the 1st pick! Suh. A one win season could also open the door to returning to LA. Thinking positive about a horrible season.

The NFL needs to do something - although I'm not sure what - about playoff teams benching their starters in late season games that can influence the playoff race for other teams. The Saints, Colts, and Bengals all basically threw several games to end the season.

I find myself wondering how a team like the Broncos, still in the playoff picture, can lay an egg like that in such a huge game (for the second year in a row). Started out 6-0 and missed the playoffs? Only the Redskins and Vikings have achieved this low point since the merger. Giants fans must be opening a vein also. The playoffs are going to be interesting. Want to see if the Saints are finished after 3 straight losses (that should have been 5). Wrong time of the year to run out of gas. Don't think the Colts are being smart by tossing in the towel in their last 2 games either. Momentum is hard to get back, once lost. Vikings and Dallas look good and you got to like the roll the Chargers got going. I will be rooting on the Ravens, but they have to do better on defensive third downs and eliminate their many mistakes if they are going anywhere. It's been a good year for hard to call games (except for sure things, like my Redskins:() so the playoffs should be entertaining. -- lancer

I don't follow the Broncos but I think their coach seems to get himself in scrapes with a lot of the players (Jay Cutler refused to play for him after some comments, resulting in his trade) and I believe he got in another scrape with one of his players this week, which probably helped them to go down the toilet. Sounds like he needs to grow up a little bit.

Not sure what you can do really; my thought on this is the teams that "throw games" so to speak have earned that right and the teams on the bubble have no one to blame but themselves. Take the Steelers; they lost to the Chiefs, the 3-13 Chiefs, so they have no beef really. Plus, look at the Patriots yesterday; Welker played and blew out his knee. The Jets had their playoff appearance gift wrapped as the Colts AND the Bungles threw games; did any Jet fan in their right mind think they had a shot in either game?

The Broncos are a complete mystery; started off 6-0 and lost 8 of their last 10 games, AND, they had their week one win gift wrapped when in the final seconds, a pass deflected off a Bungles player right into the arms of Stokely who raced 65 yards for the game winning score, not to mention they were down 17-7 vs the Patriots and the had Gotowski not missed a gime chip shot field goal in the 4th quarter, they lose that game too.

I think the Ravens will take the Patriots next week; double cover Moss and the Patriots have no one else to throw to, it could get ugly...............

Well it will be a brave new world for the Skins now; or will it? I think I will root for the Chargers since I really like Norv Turner and thought he got a raw deal in his last season with Washington. Sadly enough the Skins have yet to exceed his 10-6 season and only once matched it since he left; but then that is hard to do when you can't win 5 games.:mad: At least the Skins lead the league in new coaches; continuity anyone.

From the sound of things, Al Davis is about to stake his claim in the New Head Coach Sweepstakes, again. Poor Jason Campbell (assuming he stays) will have to learn ANOTHER system. Aw well, so it goes in the never ending pursuit of the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Where's Riggo sweeping left on 4th down when you need him? -- Al

I wouldn't call it exactly gift wrapped; the Jets were only down by five when Manning was removed. Not saying they would have been won. Regarding the Bengals, except for a few players who were hurt on defense, the Bengals did start their starters. They did have something at stake, the third seed, although perhaps their preference was to play the Jets, rather than the Ravens. The Jets denied the Bengals starters any offense at all. I agree discount the QB that came in after Palmer but I think it was 27-0 by then.

Frankly, December 9th who would have thought the Cowboys (who had just been soundly beaten for the second time by the badly beat up and mediocre Giants, and had to play two of its last 3 games against the then undefeated Saints and the Division leading Eagles) or the Jets (who had just managed to screw up 3 chip shot field goals and lose to the mediocre Falcons, and had to play its last two games at undefeated Indy and against division champion Bengals) were going to even make the playoffs?

Then again, once the Cowboys were in, who thought the combination of Wade Philips and Tony Romo, who had never one a playoff game, were going to beat the Eagles, who were 6-0 in first round playoff games? At least with the Cowboys, who had just beat up the Eagles in a game that mattered, some pundits thought they could win.

Who thought the Jets, who were given gifts by Indy, who pulled their starters after the first series of the 3rd quarter, up 5, or the Bengals, who didn't play Cedric Benson or their nose tackle, and pulled their starters by halftime, were going to be able to go to Cinci, and beat a pissed off Bengals team with something to play for and who would come after the Jets rookie quarterback, Sanchez?

Cowboys 34, Eagles 14? Jets 24, Bengals 14? I guess that's why they play the games. As a Giants fan, I have no love for either the Cowboys (who I actually rooted for because I hate the Eagles more) or the Jets (who I rooted for because my best friend, Billy McGrath, is a lifelong (which means long-suffering) Jets fan. However, give credit where credit is due. Both these teams dominated teams that all year were considered way superior when it really matered in the playoffs.

I think the Cowboys, playing the way they are, could beat the Vikings, who, with the exception of a beat down of a Giants team that had only 3 defensive starters on the field, looked terrible the last 6 weeks of the season.

I doubt the Jets are going any further, but wouldn't it be ironic if they end up playing Indy (the other team that layed down to let them in the playoffs) and somehow managed to pull the upset? That might at least convince teams to stop laying down and "resting" their starters as the playoffs approach.

And as long as we are discussing irony, wouldn't it be ironic if our good buddy George's Patriots beat the Ravens, then beat the Chargers, and ended up hosting our good buddy Brad's Jets in the AFC Championship game? Whose-ever team one that game would probably not shut up about it until next season . . . :p:D;)

Actually, if the unthinkable happened and the Jets and the Ravens were in the title game, it would be at the Meadowlands because the Jets were seeded 5 and the Ravens 6.
