First game i see live with the Saints playing and they loose............:( IF they make the superbowl i might not watch it................:D (Joking)

Another great round of games courtesy of the NFL parity rules. Couple of teams near the top, couple at the bottom and the other 100 teams all at 7-7. With the Redskins DOA, I am really enjoying all these close games. I think there were 7 or 8 games won inside the 2 minute warning this week. That Steeler game was the best, unless you are a fan of defense. Can't wait for the Giants vs. 'skins tonight. Giants fighting for their lives and 'skins waiting to spoil. Should be a good one. -- lancer

Actually that is not right George. It matters quite a bit what it comes from. Blitzes are gambles that either work well or end up putting offensive points on the board.;) BTW, the Patriots never ever hold, right?;):D

Blitzes are not gambles that either work well or end up putting offensive points on the board; if you are in a nickel package and you send a cornerback, the nicklebacks job is to rotate over to cover the man the blitzer left to blitz. Same thing in a dime package; you bring extra players in to cover for the blitzer.

If it is done right, it works, if not, you are toast.

And no, the Patriots or any other team do not hold to the degree the Colts Offensive line does.

Manning throws the most and gets sacked the least; watch a Colts game someday and watch all the holding/grabbing/mugging/assaulting that goes on, especially Jeff Saturday.................

One could consider that the definition of a gamble.:D Yes I know how they are done but no matter who you move where you are reducing the number of guys on coverage; the extra player(s) are still part of the original 11. Now sometimes that is a good bet and sometimes not.;):D I think it is a better bet against a lesser quarterback and receiver set.

On the holding thing, certainly I am no Indianapolis, as opposed to real Colts, fan but unless you are saying they bought the league officials, either they are good a pushing the envelope of the exisiting rule or extremely lucky not to get called more. Lucky only goes so far in these games so perhaps they are just good. Certainly the Patriots know about pushing the envelope (or more) of the rules so maybe they just need to get better at the craft. If I had a franchise quarterback, as those two teams do, I would should want them to do that.;):D

Bill Polian, the GM of the Colts, is also on the rules committee and it was he who went and cried to the NFL about touching a reciever beyond 5 yards after the Colts lost to the Patriots in the 2003 AFCCG.

The following year, the rules were changed and Manning and the Colts set all kinds of offensive passing records; gee, what a shock, only to get pummeled by the Patriots in the 2004 AFC Divisional round playoffs as the high powered Colts scored a whopping 3 points in a 20-3 loss.

Teddy Bruschi said after the game "Change the rules all you want, we're still going to beat you".............ouch, and they did, going on to beat the Steelers and Eagles for back to back Super Bowl wins.

You can't call holding on every play and Colts know it.

They are the masters of holding, say all you want, they are the masters, just like Denver with Shannahan were the masters of the cut block, Bill Walsh and the 49er's were the masters of the West Coast offense, the Redskins of the 80's with the hogs were the masters of a punishing ground game; you remember that far back don't you, when the Redskins actually had a good team, right?

As far as your "The Patriots are cheaters" comment, they were videotaping coaches signals, which was not illegal, BUT WHAT WAS ILLEGAL IS THEY WERE DOING IT FROM THE SIDELINES, which the commissioner told everyone not to do, but BB did it anyway. ALL teams videotape signals Bill, why do you think the commissioner made such a big deal about it.

AFTER they got caught videotaping, they went on to a 18-1 record that season, so there you go.

Well the memory is getting more and more distant but yes I very much remember Riggins and the other Hogs (he was made an honorary one by the others) and little Joe; I even have my fading copy of the Sporting News issue with the headline "NO DOUBT, BLOWN OUT." I think that was the last really good Skins team, even if they did play that game with a one game wonder QB (Perhaps some support for your any decent QB can win with protection argument;)). Of course, it looks now like we may be getting Shannahan so maybe they will become cut block masters too.;) I can tell you that I bet Jason wishes his patched up OL were masters of the hold.:D I am not sure if I agree with that call but desperate times call for desperate measures. Anyway, at least we got rid of Vinny so there is some hope on the horizon. Maybe we can at least finish off the Giants and Cowboys seasons.

I am not sure what to take away from that; they didn't need to cheat or they profited enough from the cheating to help their record?:D I do no that you, as a Patriot fan, have had a lot more fun in this decade (or two:eek:) than I, as a Skins fan, have had; end of story.......:D:D

The Skins of the 80's, early 90's were a great team, overshadowed by the 49ers, which is a shame as they were BOTH great teams. Not to mention they pummeled three of my least favorite teams in the Super Bowl; Bills, Broncos and the Dolphins, so they'll always be one of my favorite teams for that if nothing else.

The Patriots are proving this year what is true of all sports dynasties (oh wait; all dynasties not including the Yankees, they of the 27 World Championships, they just keep rolling along now don't they......); at some point, things start to go the other way (once again; unless you're the Yankees).

If they somehow manage to win a playoff game this year, they get the task of either going to San Diego or to Indy; either way, the season ends. Brady is showing signs of slowing down and the effects of his injury are still showing.

Case in point yesterday; the pocket started to collapse and a player fell down towards Brady's repaired knee and he glanced down and looked like a wounded sheep in the pocket, scared for his life of getting his knee blown out again, who can blame the guy.

If I were him, I'd walk away while he still can walk away, go into politics or whatever and just live the life married to a drop dead gorgeous woman.........................

Oh my, Ravens at Steelers this Sunday for a playoff spot on the line, doesn't get much tougher then this, nothing would make me happier to go into Pittsburgh and knock the Steelers out of the playoff race, they did it to us last year, now I'm hoping for some Raven payback to even the score, go Ravens!!!!!!!!!

A season ending injury is never easy to come back from and probably even less so for a franchise quarterback. It must be very, very hard for him not to worry about that knee when pressure gets tough. My hat goes off to him from coming back at all. I saw the Theismann get "retired" by Lawrence Taylor and it was not a pretty sight, even though Joe was nearing the end of his career. There is even a google search phrase for it. The only thing we know for sure is that our predictions will likely be wrong. There are some many chances for injury and the teams are very closely matched these days so the loss of some key players, on offense or defense can reshuffle the cards in a heartbeat.

And to further your point, earlier in the game one of the Bills players stumbled and fell forward, lunging towards Brady's knee, the same knee Pollard destroyed the previous year; no flag.

Even though the new rule states you cannot tackle a QB below the knee, this moron did it anyway and no flag. SO, you can imagine Brady was a tad bit gunshy after that hit.....................

OR maybe not.:eek: Just when you see some signs of hope you are back in the toilet. Now that performance was a CF if I ever saw one. I think there were maybe two or three Skins on the field that appeared to want to win that game. I knew the offense had issues but the defense didn't even show up. Looks like Dallas may coast into the playoffs after all.

Was really looking forward to that game; the Giants marched right down the field and scored, the skins went three and out, the Giants got the ball and were driving once again.

And I shut off the tv and got out and set up a bunch of my 20mm Napoleonics instead, much more fun than watching that disaster..............

...And I shut off the tv...much more fun than watching that disaster..............

"Sunday Night Disaster" was the TV show I was watching too. Some called it the Vikings v Panthers. But the real Viking team did not even show up. Oh there were guys in purple football uniforms, but the Viks weren't there.

Now the Vikings owner is using all his connections and political leverage to get a new stadium built by the MN tax payers. Do I hear LA calling? They already got the Lakers they might as well take the Vikings too. LA - land of the North People? Dallas got the North Stars. Anybody want a baseball, basketball, hockey or anyother pro team? Just come to MN. We start 'em you can have 'em.

Billionaire owners with millionaire players using public money to support their infastructure needs. Boy it's sure nice that we (the public tax payer) get to pay the bills. When do I get my share. Oh yeah, NEVER.

Michael... Michael... I thought you were working towards your grants for the City of Morris Toy Soldier Museum. Could be a new vacation hotspot - and I suspect it's shovel ready...

Congrats to the Giants for making the 'skins look like the local 10 & unders. What a disgrace that game was. No one showed up to play. That fake field goal call was the last straw. Let Allen get his own people installed and let's go forward. The Zorn era is done. After the 'skins started 2-6, (and looked worse than that), a look at their remaining games led me to believe that a 3 win season was possible, 4 wins likely. That is where they stand with the Cowboys and Chargers left to play. 4 wins looks like it. If the Giant debacle is any indication, the 'skins might give up a 100 points in their last 2 games. Wait till next year. -- lancer

Steelers, I will take the win!!!!!!!

Ravens inconsitent again, committed way to many penalties and they all appeared legit. I can understand if they were bad calls, but these were not, the Ravens are just plain undisciplined. They should still make the playoffs, but wow, you can't expect to win with that many opportunities blown. Harbaugh needs to have a big talk with the team and stop making excuses of blaming the refs, this was a well called game IMO.

As for the real bad call I saw, Mason fumbled the ball on the big hit, that was no incompletion, he caught took 2 steps, got blasted, ball loose. That was the bad call of the game.

Steelers played when they had to on defense, but the lockdown defense of last year is missing in action.

All in all, a heart attack game like usual!!!

TD

You are so right. The Ravens choked this game away. One penalty after another (lost 2 TDs and an interception) and also lost FG position. Mason dropped a sure TD (but I have seen all good receivers do that at one time or another). Ravens keep finding a way to lose the big games. They really ticked me off today. -- lancer

My Ravens played so poorly yet had multiple chances to win, erase a penalty here or there and it should have been a win, but on to Oakland, just need a win baby, once were in it's a whole new season and anything can happen...Sammy

The Steeler throwback uniforms are possibly the ugliest in the history of the NFL if not all sports.

It is possible the Denver Broncos unis of their first years (60,61ish)were worse. Those unis were brown with yellow numbers and pants. The socks were classic. They were VERTICALLY striped in brown and yellow!:D:eek: - lancer
