I know this isn't NFL but it is football. As George pointed out "The Tide" crushed the Gators. Anyone out there think Texas will be able to stay on the field against 'Bama without getting embarrassed? I would like to see Texas be competitive but I don't see it happening if McCoy and the boys play like they did in the last game and the Texas track record in big games is iffy. And just one more NCAA pitch, Go Navy! -- lancer

Well after that total farce Saturday night in the Texas/Nebraska game, I am convinced sporting events are "in the bag"............no time on the clock, game over, Texas loses, the BCS is now a disaster, Cincinnati or TCU vs Alabama, final score if either plays them is 63-0.........so what happens, one second reappears, Texas kicks the field goal, game over, #1 vs #3 for all the marbles.

What an absolute joke................

Did any of you (other than George) see the Dolphins game. I only caught a little of it but was impressed by the Dolphins QB, Henne. In their first scoring drive in the first half, he stayed in the pocket several times even though it seemed to be collapsing and seemed to show a lot of poise. If he keeps that up, he will have a good career.

That's ok Brad, that pathetic Patriots defense (We don't need Seymour, Vrabel, Hobbs, etc, etc, we'll replace them with a bunch of rookies and stiffs and be just fine) has made both great and mediocre QB's look like HOF locks all year long.

Weren't you Jets fans ready to start carving Sanchez's HOF bust after week two; Sanchez? Kyle bleeping Orton? Chad "Iv'e never thrown for more yards in my career in a game prior to Sunday" Henne?

Isn't it ironic that this year is the 50th anniversary of the AFL so the orginal AFL teams have been wearing throwback uni's and the Patriots this year EVERYTIME THEY WEAR THOSE UNI'S PLAY LIKE THE TEAM FROM THE 60'S?!?!?!?!?!?!

Just God awful, I hope the Doofins or the Jets steal the division at this point, they don't deserve to make the playoffs...................

My Ravens need a gut check performance tonite in Greenbay, if we lose were putting our playoff hopes in dire straits, need some good 'ol raven defense and hopefully enough offense to win...GOOOOO RAVENS!!!!!!!!!!!!

nevermind.

nevermind.

The NFL is crazy and has been for several years; at this point, the two teams who faced off in the 2008 AFCCG are BOTH in danger of not making the playoffs, while the doormat Bengals are battling for the #2 seed in the AFC, just unreal.

And the 8-8 Chargers and Broncos from last year both are tracking to end up somewhere in the 12-4, 11-5 range.

Oh and the Jets still are terrible, but at least they are consistent, 40 years of buffoonery and counting..............

Sammy,

Your team had plenty of chances tonight and they blew it.

George, you have to give the Jets credit for a least one thing, Super Bowl III. Probably the 2nd most important NFL game ever, after the 1958 Sudden Death Championship. Super Bowl III was a disaster for me in terms of dashed belief in the order of things. Funny how many of the same great players and coaches were involved in both games. My memory has faded as to when it took place,(early 70's) but I do remember a very entertaining Colt vs Jets rematch where Unitas and Namath shot each other to pieces. I believe Namath had 6 TD passes and won something like 44-34. Great game if you were a Jet fan, like SB III. All we got left of those years are the great memories of our favorite teams and players. Now, out of the way-back machine and into the present. The Ravens are beginning to tick me off. They seem to be excelling in ways to lose important games. I think they have finished their playoff hopes unless a HUGE miracle occurs. Flacco looked clueless. Too bad but looks like I might be rooting for Kurt Warner again as all my teams are fading into the sunset. -- Al

I stuck a fork in the Ravens after the Pittsburg game. Their done!

Last night their offensive line looked like a slice of Swiss cheese it had so many holes in it. Poor Flacko was being pressured on every play. It's a wonder he didn't throw more interceptions that he did. Every week another area of problems shows its ugly head. Their secondary, the running game, etc. They just don't seem to be prepared to play. I hate to say it but they almost look like the Browns.

The Ravens just seem to not have their hearts in playing, it looks like their just going through the motions. :( :( :(

Oooo, you would have to bring up Super Bowl III.:D Neither team last night looked very professional. Both made some good plays but the overall level of performance was below high school standards. There were so many stupid penalties and one bad call on the offensive pass interference that killed the Raven's last hope but they had already blown too many great chances as Brad said. Certainly these two teams do no look like playoff material.

That said, it is ironic that despite their loss, the Skins actually look pretty good this week. Of course they are done too but the team showed great promise in many key areas and the young players are starting to step up. Now if they just had a consistent quarterback they might be a threat again. Maybe Jason will find a new home in free agency.

Sorry about that SB III thing. As a die-hard, life-long, Baltimore Colt-Unitas fan, that game was the worst experience of my sports fan life, (and still is). Still can't believe it. Talk about emotional scars! Just have to give the Jets their due for winning against, what, an 18 point favorite? Didn't help that in the same time frame the Orioles lost to the Mets and the Bullets lost to the Knicks. What was that year, Bizzaro World? That NY deluge still makes my head hurt.:D -- Al

Yes there were some very good years followed by some heartbreakers for Baltimore fans in that time frame. I am sure you have seen Diner. Then of course there was the ultimate insult to Baltimore's NFL fans.:mad: It still bothers me every time I see the words Indianapolis and Colts used in the same sentence.

I'm a Rams fan - that's LA Rams. So I don't watch the NFL much these days. Can't understand how they think it's better to move the Cards to AZ, have the Rams replace them in St. Louis, put new teams in places like Carolina, but no team in LA. The NFL is usually savy but the screwball owners with their shakedown tactics for new stadiums have screwed things royally. The Vikings are trying to shakedown MN taxpayers for a new stadium. And the ticky tack penalities to "protect" players while they still allow owners to get away with artifical turf that cause a ton of injuries. That's all about increasing offensive production/higher scores to make the games watchable for fans with ADD.

What's with ADD comment Doug? Is that some kind of slam at people who have this affliction (which happens to include my son)?

Yeah, I've seen Diner. Thought it was spot on. As for the current Indy team, I don't acknowledge them as "Colts", can't root for a name that belongs to Baltimore. It bothers me, also, that we got the Ravens the same basic way that Indy got our Colts, by stealing them. I like the Ravens but they will never replace Johnny U's Colts in my heart. May Irsay burn forever. -- Al

Amen to that brother, I was only 16-17 round about when the Colts were stolen away in the middle of that cold snowy nite(hate Mayflower trucking to this day) but as a little boy and young adult I bled blue and white, everything I owned seemed to have a horseshoe on it!!!! beltbuckles, shirts, jackets, gymbag, you name it, we lived in northern neck of Virginia...a.k.a...George Washington and R.E. Lees birthplace area, and my friends couldn't understand my sadness and hurt, and as much as I loved the N.F.L. I felt like a abanden stepchild with no team to call my own, I pulled for the skins and still do but there is always that soft spot that even my beloved Ravens can't seem to fill even after a superbowl run, and pretty good team year in and year out, but nothing will ever replace the love I had for the Baltimore Colts, I still get a little pissed to here about how good Indy is doing, but I still love those uniforms, I even dream maybe one day we can have our name back and Indy can come up with their own, just a dream though....Sammy

Al,
As much as I love sports, you hit the nail on the head about the down side when your team loses.

I love sports, maybe not as much as I used to as there are other things in life that are way, way more important.

That said, I'll take the Patriots Super Bowl loss to the Giants to my grave.

Don't get me wrong, the Giants deserved it, they played better that day, but with immortality on the line, the perfect season, 19-0, etc, etc and they blew it, it eats at me to this day and always will.

No matter how many more Super Bowls they win (and the way they look this year, it may be a long time before they get back to another one, let alone win one), that one will always bother me.

As in forever.

I am with you mate. How about the Indianapolis Ravens and the COLTS were they belong?:D:D

Man deep down inside I really feel for Browns fans. Such a rich tradition of winning in the glory years of the NFL and they had Jim Brown, the greatest RB of all time.

They had some great teams in the 80's and lost in such heartbreaking fashion time after time in the playoffs. I remember in 1980 vs the Raiders they were driving for the score that would have iced the game, all they needed was a field goal and their QB threw a INT in the end zone and they blew the game; afterward the Browns coach said he loved the QB no matter what and the late, great Lyle Alzado said "He LOVES him!? I want to KILL him!!"

Then in the 86 AFCCG they had "the drive" game when the Broncos marched down the field to score and tie the game and go on to win in overtime and move on to the Super Bowl where they got demolished, then in the 87 AFCCG was "the fumble" when Ernest Byner was walking into the end zone late in the game, got stripped and fumbled and the Browns lost and once again, the Broncos moved on to the Super Bowl, to get demolished yet again.

Then to add insult to injury, they lost the Browns to Baltimore, who went on to win a Super Bowl while the poor Browns fans got an expansion team that aside from one playoff apprearance has been just plain awful.

Poor, poor Browns fans...................

With Mangini as a coach, you should really feel sorry for them :(

Well that is all true George but the Browns fans only lost the then current Browns players, not the team name and its entire histroy. Yes it would have been bad to lose the Colt players of that time but it was far worse to loose it all. Frankly the NFL Owners have made some very poor decisions about team relocations but the one on the Colts still ranks at the top IMHO.

Here is how I describe my Steelers and the Ravens::

1. Steelers - Defense has been unable to close games out that the offense has won hands down (Ben is having a **** good year stats wise). Also, special teams have been abysmal at best - 7 tds given up in 8 games during the year from the Steelers?>?????? WOW. Ike Taylor at CB should have been off the team 3 years ago, McFadden should have been kept. With Troy out, he is really exposed and it has shown week in, week out. William *** has lost the ability to play...

2. Ravens - underachieving team. Comes out flat and once they are behind, they are done. Ex. Green Bay, Vikings, etc etc etc. The Defense has just started flat. Secondary is very suspect and still need another receiver to compliment Mason CONSISTENTLY......The O line, have no idea where that is coming from, they should be good, just not playing well.

Both teams are not living up to ability, talent and expectations.
