The ain'ts are going ok hey mate, great game i sense not many people on here like them very much.......................:)

It is probably not a matter of the Saints being disliked. More a matter of a team that has a LONG history of mediocrity suddenly winning in a big way and not having many believers on board yet. Also, this forum has so many members, located all over, that most of the posters are not fans of the Saints but of their own local team. The Saints sure looked good against the Patriots. My overall impression was of great speed. They did what they wanted, when they wanted, and at a very rapid pace. I fear they will slaughter my Redskins this week. At any rate, the Saints sure are playing like this is their year. -- lancer

They've only been to the playoffs three or four times in their history so I wouldn't be ready to crown them the world's greatest time just yet.

Well they are sure going this year, even if they don't play the rest of their regular season games.;):D You can say what you like about the Monday game but I have rarely seen an offense execute better than they did and Brees is really at the top of his game. I do hope it is a good draft year and that the Skins have not traded off their top round picks.

I'm with Brad on this one; prior to 2006, they had never won a playoff game in the history of the franchise, I can recall a couple of 14-2, 12-4 teams under Mora that went one and done in the playoffs, so people need to relax.

Offense wins games, defense wins championships; if Offense won games, the Colts would have four or five Super Bowls this decade.

The Steelers, Giants, Patriots and Bucs all won Super Bowls this decade with defense, not offense, the Patriots with three and the Steelers with two.....................

The classic example of the defense over the offense was Dan Marino's one Super Bowl. Miami and it's super offense against the 49er's and their good offense and great defense. The 49er's sent them packing. Stopped them dead. That was a GREAT 49er team. -- lancer

I must differ with you there mate. It is not quite that simple and I think the post season results over many years shows that. All offense or defense will not cut it for post season but you need some degree of both and all great teams have that. Certainly the Patriots and Steelers had more than a little offense going for them or they would not have been so successful.

I really think it does not matter how well a franchise has done historically; otherwise the Skins would be feared much more than the Saints.:D The simple fact is that the Saints are playing at a championship level at the moment and to paraphrase Dowding, "if they continue, they will win the Superbowl; if they do not, they will go home early and have January free.";):D:D

The Patriots of 2001 had a mediocre at best offense; their defense smacked the high powered Rams in the chops and pummeled them into submission. The Patriots scored a TD on an INT by Ty Law, a second due to a Rams fumble deep in their own territory and a field goal off of another INT that got ran back to the 30. The only other points the Patriots scored was the field goal on the last drive.

The 2003 and 2004 Patriots did it with defense, they had several money guys who came up big when they needed to.

They had a good offense too, don't get me wrong, but their defense carried them to both Super Bowls, including a 20-3 win vs the Colts in the 2003 playoffs, the same Colts who set numerous scoring records that year; the high powered Colts managed 3 measly points in that game.

They smacked big Ben and the Steelers all over the field in the 2004 AFCCG at Pittsburg, a game many predicted the Steelers would win easily, including that big mouth Joey Porter, who all but guaranteed a victory.

Those Bills teams of the 90's were all offense, no defense, which is why they got blown out of three Super Bowls.

Sorry it's defense that wins championships.

And as far as a teams history not having anything to do with their success, I also disagree, water usually seeks it's own level and the playoffs seperate the boys from the men, it's a totally different game in the playoffs.

We'll see...............

Well frankly any history of team success can be overcome by a diligent owner. Again I cite my favorite team's record.:D As to the rest, I am afraid I see your examples somewhat differently and certainly not without exceptions.;):D

Theres alot of chat on here about days long gone by,me personally im just enjoying the moment and as they say,TIME WILL TELL"..........:D

The Saints...

Going undefeated is tough...

I don't think Don Shula is too nervous yet...

5 games left in the regular season...

the Cowboys are their biggest threat...

Atlanta on the road is a legitimate spoiler...

anything can happen...

Lowly Miami took them to the limit 6 weeks ago...

leading 34 to 24 til the 4th quarter...then the Saints put up 22 unanswered...

then the playoffs...

nothing but contenders and some good defenses...

Miami's undefeated season is still intact...at least so far...:D

You know I really would LOVE to see the 18-0 Colts vs the 18-0 Aints in the Super Bowl for one reason and one reason only; to SHUT UP those 72 Doofins.

They played a marshmellow schedule and won the Super Bowl by 7 points and every year, they "celebrate" when the last undefeated team loses.

THIS would guarantee an undefeated team and shut them up for good thank God...............

With the Colts remaining schedule...they have less of a chance of going undefeated than the Saints.

Tennesse...Denver....Jacksonville and the Jets.

The Saints may make it....but who knows.

George...

I personally have not heard a "peep" out of any of the Dolphins yet...

I said yet...

Their 1972 "marshmellow schedule" included some pretty good quarterbacks...maybe not in their "prime" yet...but...

Mike Phipps...
Len Dawson...
Fran Tarkenton...
Joe Namath (twice)...
Jim Plunkett (twice)...
Dan Pastorini...
Norm Snead...
and
Billy Kilmer.

but you're right...in the 17 games they played...

the opponents had a combined win loss of 102 to 132...

not even close to 500%.

It was a pretty weak schedule...no doubt.

Still...they went undefeated...

while their defense did their job...

Griese was adequate

and Csonka was a brute.

In the playoffs they faced...

Cleveland (Phipps) 10-4

Pittsburg (Bradshaw)11-3

and

Washington (Kilmer)11-3

These were no "marshmellow" teams.

They also went on to win Superbowl VIII the following year.

I don't like the gloating...Mercury Morris and his make believe city of "Perfectville"...population 1....is so obnoxious...

The "rap song" he did when New England went 18-0...

only to lose to the Giants was particularly offensive and unclassy to me to me.

Shula is a "class" guy...

as I think most of the Dolphins are...

when I saw Morris doing his rap on ESPN...

I swear.........................I thought he was on drugs.:D

I don't think that either of the Saints or Colts want to go undefeated; they know what a millstone around their necks is the undefeated season.
As far as the Dolphins, regardless of the competition and there are some pretty good QBs in there, that's quite a feat.

.....
Sorry it's defense that wins championships.

............
I wanted to come back to this George because there are some interesting statistics that suggest it is much less cut and dried. Since 1970, 15 No. 1 defenses and 17 No. 1 offenses have played in the Superbowl. So as to winning post season championships, the record shows both are very important and either one can lead a team to victory. In the Superbowl, 12 of the No. 1 offenses won and 9 of the No. 1 defenses won. This trend slightly favors the defense but it is hardly definitive and we all know that odd things can indeed happen in that last clutch game. It is interesting also to note that when a No.1 offense plays a No. 1 defense, the odds makers basically call it even depending on other factors like recent history, relative records, injuries etc. So is it always the defense that wins; I respectfully suggest that you can't tell.;):D

Well the Saints kept their record alive but it was a less than impressive OT win with some major luck in a Redskin 4th quarter missed chip shot field goal. Maybe they had an off day and the Skins were high but with our offensive record, the NO performance was hardly inspiring. Again to paraphase Dowding, "must find more defense or lose."

I am now convinced that there is a conspiracy to have the 'aints go undefeated. How else to explain the horrid decision by the Refs in overtime against the 'skins? The fumble ruling was atrocious and handed the game to the 'aints. It was a call that should never been made as the evidence to overrule the field call was not there. The 'skins were robbed. Oh well, it has been that kind of season for Washington. The NFL refs suck. They can't even get it right with replay. Good thing I'm not bitter. Saints won but were not impressive on the defesive side. They will lose sooner or later. -- lancer

Well,
I can now relax as my Steelers have all but eliminated themselves with some pretty dumb play the last couple of weeks. WOW. If you would have told me at the beginning of the season it wouldnt be us and the Ravens fighting it out I would have been shocked. Well, shock is now reality. CRAP!!!!!

TD

Mike,
The comical thing about their playoff run was at 14-0, they actually played the AFCCG AT Pittsburg, what a joke

The NFL for the most part has become a complete and utter joke, I'll take college football anyday of the week. In the NFL, if you breathe on a guy it's a penalty, not to mention, you get the ball at the spot of the infraction, so if you heave a 50 yard pass and there is interference, the ball goes from say the 30 down to the other teams 20, what farce.

And with instant replay, they STILL can't get it right; 90% of the time, the ruling on the field stands, ie, they don't want to throw a ref under the bus, it's laughable.

And speaking of college ball, wow did Bama smoke the Gators; come on Tebow, there's no crying in football.............

My Ravens need a gut check performance tonite in Greenbay, if we lose were putting our playoff hopes in dire straits, need some good 'ol raven defense and hopefully enough offense to win...GOOOOO RAVENS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm too hoping for a Ravens win to help the Giants. On the other hand, I should root for the Packers as that would help the Jets but I really can't see them going better than 8-8. After their game this coming weekend, they have a tough last 3 games.

Did any of you (other than George) see the Dolphins game. I only caught a little of it but was impressed by the Dolphins QB, Henne. In their first scoring drive in the first half, he stayed in the pocket several times even though it seemed to be collapsing and seemed to show a lot of poise. If he keeps that up, he will have a good career.

I know this isn't NFL but it is football. As George pointed out "The Tide" crushed the Gators. Anyone out there think Texas will be able to stay on the field against 'Bama without getting embarrassed? I would like to see Texas be competitive but I don't see it happening if McCoy and the boys play like they did in the last game and the Texas track record in big games is iffy. And just one more NCAA pitch, Go Navy! -- lancer
