First win for Brady and the boys in Washington
Too close for comfort
The Pats have no D
With a good defence could go all the way

God, I cannot believe the Bears lost that game. Unbelievable  that about cooks their playoff chances. Don't know I would show up in Chicago if I were Marion Barber. What a disappointing loss.

You cannot score 10 points and expect to beat Tebow.

We can score 10 and beat them with D. I personally am routing for the Steelers to get the Broncos in the playoffs. Would love to see how many times Tebow will last running on the Pitt D. Not too many. How many INT's does he throw? Seems like a match made in heaven for a good defense. Personally, I think if we can get healthy or more importantly not get any worse, closeout the season, we have a shot. Good teams with talent find a way to win.

As for the Ravens, watch out, they are looking consistent which has been one of their issues. They are going to be tough in the stretch, probably have the best shot at making the Super Bowl. Consistency breeds confidence. They seem to be pulling together, they beat us twice and if they get home field, going to be real tough.

Fantastic game last night between the Giants and Cowboys, unless you like defense. One of the only times I can remember a 'ice the kicker' time out working. Manning looked good last night, as did the Giants for the first time in weeks. NFC East division now tied with the 2 leaders at 7-6. Scary. Eagles could still be alive at 5-8 but I don't know for sure as I haven't checked the division records. Just funny that the division is so weak that a 5-8 team could still end up in a 3 way tie at 8-8. -- Al

Al,

Eagles are theoretically alive as they have the best divisional record, 3-1. Giants and Cowboys are 2-2. Problem for the Eagles is that they are done with both teams.

BTW, the Patriots didn't cover and almost lost. You just don't know how things will go week to week. Only did 50% on my picks. Not too good :(

Brad, I just looked at the schedule, and the Eagles still have a game with Dallas. It looks like your Jets will have a big influence on the outcome in the NFC East as they play both the Giants and Eagles. What a mess. Even the Skins could play the part of spoiler because they still have games with the Eagles and Giants. It's going to be real interesting and the division winner could be a 8-8 Eagle team. -- Al

Oops, thought they had Al. Giants play Jets in two weeks on Christmas Eve. Whoever loses that game may be getting coal in their stockings because they're probably going home. Right now, they both control their destiny but something's gotta give {eek3}

The next three games are definitely tough for the Jets: away at Philly, home (Jets are home team) with the Giants and then in Miami. Not easy.

As I had indicated 5 weeks ago, my head told me the 5-2 Giants would go 1-4 in the next 5 games, while my heart hoped for 3-2. Well, my head won out. Despite the fact that the Giants have lost 4 in a row, and are 6-6, in the weakest ever NFC East, they still hold their destiny, and their Coach's job, in their own hands.

Tonight is put up or shut up time for Coughlin's Giants. I have been calling for his firing since the year before they miraculously and fortuitously won the Super Bowl. If they beat the Cowboys tonight, they are in control of the Division, and have to win only 2 of their last 3 games to clinch a home playoff game and save Coughlin's job. If they lose tonight, they are for all intents and purposes eliminated, have lost 5 in a row, and will hopefully be bringing in Bill Cowher as their new head coach next year. So, while I will be pulling hard for the Giants tonight, if a loss costs Coughlin his job, so be it.

The offense and Jason Pierre Paul saved the season last night. Despite a 400 yard, 2 TD performance by Eli (only marred by a tip-drill interception) a vintage 2007-like performance by Brandon Jacobs (Earth) who rushed for more than 100 yards, and Ahmad Bradshaw (Fire), and an LT-like performance by Pierre Paul (2 sacks, one for a safety, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal), the Giants secondary almost managed to blow the game by once again flat out failing to cover receivers left wide open for three touchdown passes (the exact same failure which cost the Giants the winning touchdowns in both the 49ers and Eagles games).

It boils down to this: If the Giants (7-6) win the Washington game next week and the Dallas Game on the last day of the season, they win the NFC East at 9-7 or 10-6. The Jets game is meaningless for the Giants, unless they lose to Washington (in which case they need to win to make a win over Dallas on the last day of the season force a tie at 9-7), or Dallas loses to both Tampa and the Eagles (in which case a win over the Jets to move to 9-6 clintches a better record than the Cowboys, who even if they beat the Giants would finish 8-8).

The Rams looked awful last night. I followed them when they were long suffering in LA, but this team is ridiculous. They have lost 58 straight games where they trailed by 7 or more points in the 4th quarter and are averaging less than 12 points per game. The solution is to send them back to LA where they can at least choke under the sunshine. Those blue and white uniforms of the late 60's and 70's were iconic. A crying shame what has happened to this team.

I agree. The LA Rams were a force to be reckoned with when the Fearsome Foursome, Roman Gabriel, and gang were playing. Great rivals of that other Blue and White team, the BALTIMORE Colts. Classic battles. I did like them when Kurt Warner was slinging the ball around, though. -- Al

Ok, its official, it is now the National Pansy League. Goodell suspended Harrison for flagrant hit on a QB. Serioulsy, this is becoming more like ballet than football. When I played, it was referred to as controlled violence. It is a dangerous sport, they know the risks. Goodell needs to go, this and a lot of other reasons are why he is bad for the sport. A complete arrogant person who thinks he is bigger than the game.

I am all for protecting people from cheap shots, etc, but there are fines and penalities for that. You don't alter the course of a potential playoff spot by suspending the star player from a crucial game for a football play. That is wrong. Suh's suspension was deserving, that was a flat out character issue, this was a football play.

Sorry but you're way off on this one. That was a shot that he didn't need to take at McCoy.

Even if you're right that they're dumming the sport down (which I don't agree with), he knows the rules and the rule is you're going to get slammed if you hit a QB like that. There's really no excuse for his actions. It wasn't as if he's tackling him in the open field; he was defenseless. If he doesn't know the rules, well, then, he'll now have a chance to read them. Moreover, this isn't the first time this has happened to him; it's the sixth. There really is no excuse.

Tom, I have to disagree here, too. Harrison took a cheap shot with a high probability of harm resulting. I grew up watching the old NFL, where just about anything just short of murder was allowed, and that hit MIGHT have been OK in the 50's or 60's but it has been a long time since that kind of hit has been tolerated. With his history, Harrison should have known better. That hit made me cringe and McCoy was lucky he got off so light. Normally I am for the rough and tumble type play but a direct shot at the man's head and well-being is just too much. -- Al

Sorry Tom, I know our rivalery is always a tough one, but Harrison seems he's out of control sometimes, do I wish the Ravens never let him go??? hell yea, wish he was still a Raven, wouldn't matter though, illegal hits are just that, and week in and week out most are not fined, or even called, but when they are so blatent you got to believe the guy has a few issues or something? nothing better then a hard 'ol school player which for the most part Harrison is, but has to change his outlook on cheap shots...Sammy

I always come back to the hypocrisy of the NFL pretending they are protecting players. At the same time, they want to expand the season to 18 games and continue to play on artificial turf which cause more injuries than all the dirty hits in football combined. Maybe it's the right call, but it's about money and perception. Not protecting players.

I'm with Tom on this one. At full speed, watching the hit live, Harrison didn't have time to pull up when McCoy, who looked like he was running, suddenly threw the ball. His whole football life, Harrison was taught to lead with the crown of his helmet, now the league wants to tell him its OK if its a running back, or after a receiver has completed a reception and made a football move, but don't you dare hit a receiver in the act of catching the ball, or a quarterback, helmet to helmet, because they are "defenseless." It's a load of B.S., and I am sick of watching it. It used to be that defense and a good running game won championships, now the Packers will win it all with no defense to speak of and an offense where the leading rusher is sometimes the QB. In fact, the only teams in the league who still are dominant with a quality defense are the Ravens, the Steelers, the 49ers and the freakin' Broncos (Tim Tebow is winning those games my @ss). Look at the playoff picture. As of right now the following teams lead their divisions:

NFC:
Greenbay (no defense, amazing offense)
New Orleans (no defense, amazing offense)
49ers (good defense, good offense)
Giants (no defense, very good passing offense)
AFC:
Patriots (no defense, amazing passing offense)
Broncos (bizarre offense only effective in last 2 minutes of game, very good defense)
Texans (very good offense, even with 3rd string QB, very good defense)
Ravens (dominant defense, adequate running offense)

Look, I understand all the complaining about how the NFL used to be but rules are always changing. Compared to baseball, football has some very odd rules that don't seem logical to me like ineligible man downfield if an offensive lineman accidentally strays past the line of scrimmage but that's a discussion for another day.

Whether you like it or not a rule is a rule and as a player or whatever you do you have to follow it. If you file an appeal and don't file the requisite number of copies, you're going to get flagged, so to speak. That's just the way it is. Moreover, it's not like this is his first offense, and as a repeat offender I'm sure that weighed heavily with the League.

As far as offense taking over the game, that's true for now but these things are cyclical and good defenses figure out how to adjust. Look at the Ravens. They play within the rules but are dominant.

If Harrison can't adjust his game to the reality, he might find himself out of a job.

I hate to pile on Tom, but the rules have changed and Harrison has a history of cheap shots, so the league is going to come down hard on him. Doesn't make the suspension right, but it's the NFL of 2011 I'm afraid.

During the Patriots/Redskins game, the Redskin back tripped and fell after catching a screen pass, Vince Wilfork as the guy tried to get up drilled him and got called for a 15 yard penalty, the explanation was "Unnecessary tackling"........I kid you not, unnecessary tackling.

If this was college, were the runner once he goes down is off limits, I could understand it, but this is the NFL, where you can get up unless touched down by contact.

As Louis points out, the NFL got what they wanted, they've legislated defense out of the league, this all started when the Colts whined to the NFL after the 2003 AFCCG vs the Patriots where the Patriots basically beat up the Colts, clobbering them off the ball on offense.

Guys, I understand where you are coming from b/c its Harrison and he is one of the toughest, meanest players in the league, he just is and I wouldn't have him any other way.

I just cannot agree with the new rules. I played organized football since I was a kid thru high school and was part of organized football until I was 25 at all levels. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, we were taught proper tackling techniques and the bull neck with the crown/face of the helmet put directly into the chest is the safest and most proper way to tackle. If you want to dip your head and lead with your shoulder, you are asking for a broken neck. The way Goodell explains it, he is going to end up protecting QB's and get defensive players into wheel chairs, it is just plain stupid. Louis makes a lot of good points.

Cheap Shot? I don't think so, if that is a cheap shot, then there are 200 a week. The only reason we hear helmet to helmet is b/c of the Kool Aid Goodell has served up over the last 2 years. Horse manure. Again, not only due to the technical aspect above, this "ain't ballet".

Doug puts forth another truth and that is the money crap, 18 games............huh...................??

The NFL has changed, for the worse. Before these rules, how many injuries did we have from helmet to helmet? I am sure there are some as it is a violent sport, but they are going to happen regardless.

Harrison was one of the most outspoken finees last year, so of course he has had NO fines this year until this game and instead of another fine, Goodell suspends him.........why? Because Goodell is Goodell. This is so arbitrary its ridiculous and unfair. By the way, apparently the appeals/review board agreed with Harrison from what I read last year as he was fine $125,000 and it was reduced to either $50,000 or $75,000 and he donated the balance to charities, so if that isn't an indication of how arbitrary this crap is, then I don't know. Additionally, I believe his hit last year during the Bengals game on the receiver was the NFL Photo of the week and was one of the best selling on NFL.Com. I mean, c'mon, how does this not outrage you as a sports fan???

Anyhow, I am done with this rant, but basically an outspoken high profile player gets screwed everytime this happens. This time, it just happens to be late in the season to a perennial superstar that could have playoff implications. Thanks Roger. Donkey.

Sammy before I say this know that I respect the hell out of Ray Lewis as a player. But Ray has had a ton of tough hits just like this over his career and most he was never flagged for. It is way arbitrary and I give Ray a lot of credit for admitting this in many interviews. He even to his credit called the fine on Ryan Clark ridiculous. I think we can all agree the rules and their enforcement are puzzling at best.
