N.F.L. 21-22 Season (1 Viewer)

65 NFL players on the COVID list in the last two days. You have to wonder at some point if they start rescheduling games.

I don't think they can...
it will most probably end up being a diluted "next man up"...for the rest of the season...
lots of teams have dealt with this already...
it would be unfair to them to cancel games now...

If it were just the case of a few guys on the list, that would be one thing but now there are almost 70. And in the case of the Rams, they can't even practice this week. How safe is it for another team to play them if the NFL doesn't even allow the Rams players to practice together? My understanding is that all the Rams players who have tested positive were also vaccinated. So they appear to have done everything possible to avoid this situation.

70 positive tests...that works out to about an average of 2 players per team...
some teams of course more than others...
and I don't understand the safety issue of replacement players to other teams if they can't practice together...
their Covid replacements are NFL drafts that are on the team and do practice football daily...they can practice with the starters right?
this year Dallas played without 1st string starters Dak Prescott...Amari Cooper...Zack Martin...Randy Gregory...all blue chip starters in several games...
and a host of other lesser known starters and backups...
a few weeks ago they had 9 players coaches that had to sit out a game due to Covid...including their head coach...
they didn't do so well without them...but the league didn't offer them a reschedule til their stars were healthy...
I think they would be pretty mad if other teams were allowed to reschedule because their 1st string stars were testing positive...

plug in the next guy in line and move on like every other team so far has had to do...
you can't start giving out reschedules now after so many other teams have already dealt with the same issues and managed to put a team on the field...

As I understand it, the Rams can't practice at all. An "average" number of players out for the entire league is not relevant. Teams like the Rams and Browns have the bulk of these players. The Rams were at nine or so. If I'm playing a team that can't even meet together because of a COVID breakout, I'm not too keen on my players coming into contact with them. It seems pretty obvious that if it is unsafe according to the NFL for members on the same team to practice together, that it is equally unsafe for them to play other teams and risk infecting those players. One Rams player apparently had a false positive and was held out of the MNF game. Others can have the virus but test negative and play like OBJ did. It's a ridiculous situation.

I don't understand the no practice at all if everyone preparing to play tests negative...
makes no sense...what's that about?

and these inaccurate tests...may be the reason their is such an influx of new Covid cases in the NFL...

don't throw your mask away...
you will probably be wearing it for years to come...

The NFL is considering relaxing the COVID protocols; if a player is asymptomatic and is vaccinated, even if he tests positive, they'll allow him to play.

Glad they are ultra concerned about player safety.

Good for them.

A stink has followed Meyer around like "Pigpen" on Charlie Brown. He is an arrogant ego maniac even by coaching standards. He has had some great successes but also a ton of disasters. With that said, not many coaches could help the Jags this year.

And apparently it won't be him; he's been fired.

What a ****show.

And apparently it won't be him; he's been fired.

What a ****show.

A lot of alums at USC were on fire to hire him last summer. That is a disaster averted. Ordinarily, I would say he never coaches again but I'm sure colleges are lining up to pay him millions. Coaching football is a great gig. Guys like Kiffin and "Seven Win" Sark can fail time and again and they are always hired by someone. There is no such thing as career failure.

After losing to Denver Meyer told Vic Fangio that coaching in the NFL was like playing Alabama every week.

Who knew that in the NFL you can't simply show up for the first 97% of your games and win?

Or as Jimmy Johnson put it, "There’s not a world of difference between the college level and the NFL. There’s a galaxy of difference............"

The Rams now have 25 players on the COVID list! I can't believe the NFL will allow them to play this week. Seattle should refuse to show up for the game.

I'm going to recant on forcing all games to be played regardless of using so many replacement subs...
the Ram's situation is just unrealistic...
that's just too many starters off the roster...

while other teams have put in replacements to keep their schedule...
that's just too big of a handicap to overcome...

I wonder if the Ram's Covid protocol rules are the same as all the other teams...
that just seems unrealistic to have 25 people off a 53 man roster sick at the same time...

maybe they should make a rule that if a certain percentage of your starting roster is out to Covid...
then you can reschedule...
1/2 a team of starters out is just too much to overcome and be competitive...

Isn’t the rule that if, due to COVID, your team can’t play, the game is forfeited?

This is starting to feel a lot like when the pandemic first began. I can see many sports suspending play for an indefinite duration. They are already canceling many college events. And the real surge is still coming in January. As many as 15K deaths per week are predicted after Jan. 8.

I think that is the case only if the affected players are unvaccinated. In the case of the Rams, McVay confirmed that most, if not all, have been vaccinated. The Deadskins just signed a practice squad QB from NE because both of their QBs are on the list. It's ridiculous to play games under those circumstances.

yea...fans are not getting their monies worth...you're putting on a diluted version of your team...watching no-name players compete...
but almost all teams so far have been forced to play with replacements this year...
I think a lot of owners and players would complain if considerations for make up games were given now...
every team has gone through this to some degree...

there needs to be a percentage of "players out rule" implemented next year...
it has to be equal for every team...

I checked the rule, which is what I should have initially done, and you’re correct. Games shouldn’t be played under these conditions. In the British Premier League several matches have been postponed and in the Bundesliga (German League), the amount of allowable spectators has been reduced. With Omicron supposed to come crashing down on us in a few weeks, I wonder if the season in the US can be completed. The mantra should be safety first.

This is going to be a disaster, I seriously wonder if they are going to have to suspend the NFL season as imagine how this thing is going to explode after Christmas/New Years.....................my oldest sister has a huge Christmas Eve get together every year, 40 to 50 people, naturally she bagged it last year, she's seriously thinking of doing the same now this year, I'm 75/25 not going, I had planned on it up until this past week, this thing is HIGHLY contagious.

SO glad I got my two shots and my booster, it's allowing me to go back to some sort of normalcy...............right, sure it is.

I've resided myself to the fact that this ****ing thing is never going to end.

As in ever.

Not to cause any commotion, BUT there have been zero deaths as a result of this new variant in the US according to Federal Government. We have not had any real surge in Maryland yet and I just don't buy into this hype. I just went and saw Genesis this week with 20,000 people and no mask mandate. My wife and I five days later are fine. We have not changed our holiday plans of get togethers, first one this Saturday and I am spending a week in Florida in January. We are all vaccinated and really do not see a downside risk. If you are vaccinated, even if you do get a symptom (which is rare), your risk is very minimal. If you look at all of the deaths in the last 6 months - nearly all (talking a rounding error) are unvaccinated people with some type of pre condition. It is rare (hardly mathematically calculable) the risk to a fully vaccinated person.

Regarding professional sports, I do believe they need to do full assessment after a positive test, one to verify accuracy and two to understand any symptoms. I do agree that if you are sick and contagious (regardless of the disease), you should not play. Should they postpone a game or two if necessary, sure, but I don't believe in a widespread panic. That said, I do believe in a vaccine mandate for professional athletes, a lot of the issues they currently have could have been avoided.

Again, personally, we have moved onward and upward and as they say in Alabama - Roll Tide.....................!
