N.F.L. 21-22 Season (1 Viewer)

At best the Niners were playoff cannon fodder before this loss and they remain the same going into this weekend.

They have too many injuries and a mediocre quarterback (so does most of the league).

Any hype about them being a Super Bowl contender was created by the NFL.

He's a free agent I think at the end of the season?

If so, some team will be dumb enough to pony up big dough for him.

If they fall out of playoff contention, put Lance in and see what he can do.

Mayfield missed a great opportunity to win the game on a final drive...
hard to win when you throw 4 INT's...
especially that last one...just needed a field goal to beat GB...
might get a call from Progressive Insurance about next years contract...

The Colts are going to be a pain in the *** to whoever plays them come playoff time.

Reich is the new Maddon of the NFL, complete with those horn rimmed glasses to make him look smarter than he really is, shut down that running game, make them one dimensional and make Wentz beat you, if that stiff beats you, so be it.

He sucks.

Wentz stinks on ice. The Colts won’t get beyond the first round. The Cards are in a typical late season fade when Murray is banged up. Nice win by the Rams today. They must laugh all the way back to LA about Minnesota building a dome and giving away that artic home field advantage. I remember in the olden days when the Rams had to play outdoors in MN. They looked like the Germans at Stalingrad.

Great point by you, Minnesota had one of the greatest HFA in sports and they gave it away.

I told you the Rams would right the ship...............they're in first place now in the NFC West.

And the Patriots; after ripping off 7 wins in a row and sitting at 8-4, they were in first place in the AFC East, had the #1 seed......now three weeks later, they are 8-6, blew the AFC East to the Bills and if they are lucky, will be one of those #6, #7 seeds who get demolished in the first round.

In the blink of an eye, things change in sports....................

36 players either on Injured Reserve or Covid-19.....can the Ravens just forfeit the last 2 games🤬 but how insane not only to get blown out to Cinncy but the Ravens gained a spot back in the wildcard standings..absolutely unreal.

Joe Burrows is a winner it looks like regardless of who or what level they are playing. They guy can throw and that spells doom for most opponents, I would say IMO he is for real.

Saint's 3rd string QB...Notre Dame's star Ian Book...the winningest QB in the school history...
got a rude welcome to the NFL in his first start tonight...

8 sacks for -54 yards...
2 INT's...one a pick 6...
5 QB hits...
scored 3 points...

guess the Saints left it all on the table shutting out TB last week...

he must be thinking...
"this is not like in college...these guys are a lot faster"...

Two horrible games in prime time, two nights in a row.

I will never understand how the NFL TV ratings remain so high for these games?

Oh wait, point spreads, over/unders and fantasy leagues, in other words the quality of play is irrelevant.

Gambling matters much more.

Jason...you're right to some degree on the gambling and fantasy leagues increasing viewership...but I don't think the majority of the game attendees are betting...I see lots of families...both women and children dressed in team clothing along with some pretty crazy sport's fans mixed in the stands...I like to make small wagers on the games...whether I win or lose them...it doesn't really affect the quality of my life...it gives me a rooting sweat...it gives me 3 hours of entertainment...some 3 hours more entertaining than others...some are pretty bad matchups...I think football fans are more loyal to attending games than baseball fans...watched a lot of baseball this year with non capacity crowds...football games seem to get way better attendance...

Mike:

Apologies, I should have quantified my post.

I have nothing against gambling as I like to partake in some action myself now and then.

Also, my post was not directed at people who attend games, it was meant for tv viewers.

A recent NFL TV viewership study found that since gambling was legalized 57% of all NFL regular season game minutes were consumed by gamblers. That number rises to 78% in non competitive or blow out games like Sunday nights Cowboys game.

I don’t know how many people gamble or whether most people who follow the game are gamblers but in NJ (and NY very soon) sports gambling has been legalized and the sports radio station I listen to is awash with gambling ads. It seems that at least half of the ads are gambling ads and, of course, at the end of each ad, they say “ gambling problem? Call 1800, etc.”

Brad...

not just the radio...the tv games themselves are littered with gambling ads...gambling is here to stay...

both Jones and Kraft have a stake in Draft Kings...
Draft Kings went public a few years back and Kraft has a large stake in his portfolio (150 million plus)...
as does Jones I would assume...
I don't mind the football wagering as long as you stay within your means and don't jeopardize your families welfare...

a bigger turn off for me is fantasy football...which is hugely popular...
some people love to pour over stats to make their selections and it's usually a one time entry fee in a pool...
I have friends who do it...but it doesn't interest me...

That much money at play means there will be a scandal. Games will be impacted by players or refs on the take. Bet on it!

Had the chance to watch some football with my octogenarian, sports-hating Dad over Christmas. Mostly after taking the remote control when he fell asleep watching Fox News. Some of his observations:

TV Crowd Shots of the Fans (many dressed as Santa or the Grinch):

"Who are all those fools? No wonder this country is in such a mess."

Play Calling:

"No football team in history has ever run the ball up the middle for more than one yard." This is followed by several examples of teams running the ball up the middle for one yard or less. "Incredible. What is the definition of insanity again?"

Penalties:

"The mafia has really put the fix in on this game." Applicable to penalties called on both teams.

Philosophical I:

"There are only two possible outcomes to a football game and neither of them make a whit of difference." When I point that there are actually three possible outcomes to a professional game since they can end in a tie: "You have got to be kidding."

Philosophical II:

"I would like to be King just to ban football."

Philosophical III:

Dad: "Why do they bother to play these games when they could just replay the games from 1987 and no one could tell the difference?"
Mom: "Someone might."
Dad: "Who cares?"

I'm dying over here................this could be an idea for a sitcom...................

saw Cousins is out with Covid for the GB game...
I know Covid has affected teams all year...
but now as the playoffs near and teams are looking to improve their seed...or make a final push...
I got a feeling Covid will play a big impact through that and the playoffs...
QB's getting Covid are probably the biggest fears of management...
if some big names get banned from Covid...a years worth of work could go down the drain in one game...

Looking forward to the Rams-Ravens game. Big game for both teams with the Rams on the verge of winning their division and the Ravens trying to stay in the playoff hunt. I was at the game a couple years ago in LA when the Ravens humiliated the Rams on MNF. Hoping for some payback but a desperate team playing at home is a dangerous game. Not sure if Lamar Jackson is going to play but the Rams D has finally shown up these last few weeks. Sony Michel is also giving the Rams a running game taking the pressure off Stafford who has been shaky.
