N.F.L. 21-22 Season (1 Viewer)

I watched a ton of football over the last few weeks, both pro and college (bowl games).

One thing I noticed repeatedly is the uptick in defenses trying to punch the ball out.

More to the point I noticed so many “misses” that literally turned into body blows or in the case of Najee Harris last night, an upper cut that turned his head as much as a boxer turns when an opponent lands a direct hit to a chin.

At what point is an attempt to knock the ball out nothing more than an actual punch?

it's become such a popular tactic now...
that they coined the name "peanut punch"...
after cornerback Charles Tillman whose nickname is "Peanut"...
it can be a game changer...

Tom...
glad to see Big Ben win his final game at Heinz...
fans deserved that...gonna miss him...
defense went crazy last night too...
10 sack...11 QB hits...
amazed Mayfield even scored 2 TD's with TJ using him as his personal tackling dummy....

We watched it and it was nice to see him go out on top at home. Just wish the Defense would have been the same all year, what could have been!!!

That said, again, it was a good night for Pittsburgh, now the only thing left is to beat the Ravens in Baltimore, that might be even sweeter, but who knows, that game is so unpredictable as both teams are Jeckyll/Hyde type teams, you really don't know what you are going to get. Would be nice to see Watt break Strahan's single season sack record!

The Rams have lost five times in a row to the Niners who play like the 1980s Joe Montana team against LA. Some ugly beatdowns in those games. The Rams better get some payback this week because it means the difference between winning the division and ending as the number 2 seed in the NFC or being a wild card team. The Cards are playing the Seachickens which should be an easy win. So the Rams have to win this one. Stafford is not inspiring any confidence but the Rams D has finally shown up. I like the Rams to win big.

Not sure it has been mentioned on this thread yet but RIP to John Madden.

Great coach, unparalleled announcer and football icon.

No horse in the Superbowl race this year as my Ravens are out of it mercifully...so I guess I'm pulling for the Pack/Rodgers in the NFC, as far as the AFC?? can't stand the Chiefs, Bengals?? 🤮 Colts?🤮🤮 ...I'll take the Titans, Pats if I have to pick one.

Well, going to the game on Sunday to see Big Ben's last ride, my work colleague gave me his tix for me and Logan. Even though they are virtually eliminated, decided it was worth the cold weather to see his last game since literally 45 mins away. Not too happy to go to downtown Baltimore, but I figure its 1pm and we will be scooting outta there before dark, so should be relatively safe.

I figure 38 yrd line on Visitors Side 11 Rows up should provide a good view!

Good luck Tom! Two places I would never go as a visiting football fan: Cleveland and Baltimore. Some angry folks in the stands.

The Niners can clinch a playoff spot with a win on Sunday thus allowing themselves to be cannon fodder for the rest of the NFC.

All things considered, I’d rather not make the playoffs and get a better draft position.

You are not kidding, I used to own season tix to the Ravens but gave them to my cousin as it is not a nice environment. Lot of fights in that stadium!

We are only two games into week 17 and already the talk is all about single season records falling.

It started last week when Michael Pitts “joined” Mike Ditka as the only tight ends to ever have 1,000 yards receiving in their rookie seasons.

Ditka did that in 14 games, Pitts did it in 16.

Perspective should mean something when it comes to more games, math should matter even more.

Well, what a game, typical fashion, down to the wire and Big Ben with the game winning drive, couldn't have written it any better. BUT COLD AND RAINY, holy goodness, soaked!

A gutless epic choke by the Rams. Crappoloppo again played like Joe Montana. If he played only the Rams, he would be the greatest QB in history. It helps when your team can line up and steamroll the opposing team. Poor Stafford had no running game or pass protection. He had to drop back and try to win it while getting pressured by four guys. Hopeless. Kudos to the Lions for playing to win today when they could have rolled over to get the first-round pick. Congrats to the Steelers. I don't like Ben but the guy is a warrior on the field.

Tom...congrats to the Steelers...to win those last 2 games pushed them into the playoffs...as long as the Raider's/Charger's game doesn't end in a tie...ESPN's FPI (whatever that is) has the Steelers at a 99% lock to make the playoffs...so congrats...

Brad...or your son...congrats to the 49ers...huge comeback win today...that was a clutch overtime drive to secure the last spot in the NFC playoffs...the Cowboys will host them next week...wish you a sincere good luck on the game...should be fun...

I genuinely hope Covid does not play a large role in the playoffs...

As a fan of the NFL today has been crazy and enjoyable!! As far as my Ravens, not our year, to many close losses after a very good start of the season...looking forward to some playoffs next week!!!

Tom...I'm glad it wasn't a tie...that game must have really made Steeler fan's heads spin...congrats!

Well, now the Niners are in so I hope they win a playoff game or 2.

The Cowboys are a tough draw, especially on the road so if they win that one I will be really impressed.

Good lord, what a ridiculous game. There really are only a few really good teams this year. Anyway, I cannot understand why the NFL does not have a win scenario in the regular season like college. There should not be ties at the professional level, I think they should fix that rule and not b/c of the Steelers almost not making it because of it. For instance, if they tie last night, both teams get in??? That is a headscratcher in that it is saying "don't worry, you don't have to win to get in". That is sort of idiotic, don't you think? All the rules they yell and scream about each year, well here is one that they should be easily able to change - you play until a winner emerges.

Also, on another note, the officiating is just downright terrible across the board. There are so many NON called pass interferences, it is nuts. I saw not only live but in the other 2 games I watched guys get literally knocked down, clocks cleaned and no calls. I don't want to see the ticky tack hands stuff called, but jeez, when someone goes to the ground in the middle of a route, should be a call. I guess the refs are blind. Also, blatantly missing a facemask right in front of you in overtime (Derwyn James Chargers) is inexcusable. The Raiders would have moved the ball quicker, you have to wonder when they miss calls like that if there is not something going on.
