N.F.L. 21-22 Season (1 Viewer)

It seems odd that the NFL has scheduled the cold weather games to be played at night and the warm weather games to be during the day. Imagine sitting at Lambeau Field at night in late January for four plus hours with temps near zero? I assume they do this to maximize TV ratings but that is brutal.

You are right, it is about TV ratings (with the majority of watchers being gamblers rather than fans of either team).

The combined attendance for Arrowhead Stadium and Lambeau field is 158,000.

An average NFL playoff game attracts 17.8 million TV viewers, with that number rising depending on applicable bets placed on a particular game.

I'm not sure how much the betting is increasing viewership but the enormous amount of money involved will eventually come back to bite them in the backside. There will be corruption of players and/or officials. It just seems inevitable which is why professional sports distanced itself from gambling for so many decades. But greed is king now. So anything goes.

Gambling is an enormous red flag but it is a flag that is being ignored and, at worst, being encouraged and supported by the powers that be. It will lead to disaster. -- Al

Cincinnati...Burrows...already sacked 8 times this game with over 6 minutes left...
and I thought the Cowboys had a bad offensive line...
he's been sacked 51 times this year...
amazed he hasn't been hurt yet...

make that 9 sacks now for 68 yards...
that's over 7 yards per sack...

Titans turn the ball over with 20 seconds left and lose on a FG at the gun. Jeesh, that's going to be tough to live with this off-season. -- Al

Wow....I had a feeling Cinncy would play Tennessee tough but that was a gut check game, Titans had plenty opportunities to win but that tipped interception was crazy!! ...hoping the night game is just as entertaining!

I wonder if any NFL team in history had nine sacks only to lose the game? Big mistake by TN trying to ride Henry after his extended absence. He clearly was rusty and out of game shape. What a weapon it is to have a kicker who is money from 50+ yards. That changes the entire dynamic of the game. Coaches need to start adjusting to account for a strategy where the opponent just barely needs to cross midfield to kick a game winner.

as much as I like Burrows...
I don't think they will win if they give up a ton of sacks in the next round...
just too much to overcome...

congrats to SF...I didn't think they would have a chance against Rodgers at home...
their special teams really rose to the occasion...blocked field goal...blocked punt...
also the teams pressure on Rodgers was excellent...5 sacks...
even though the weather was un-Godly inclement...their defense held up well...
hard to keep GB to only 10 points...

Large order of crow, to go please.

I truly thought Green Bay was well rounded enough to be the NFC Super Bowl rep, great offense with a stout defense.

Then it snowed and I was reminded that special teams can truly decide a game.

The was a gutsy win by the Niners in that environment. In some strange way, I think the cold and conditions played to their advantage with their more physical style of play. Rodgers couldn't do anything with his finesse passing game. That felt like his last game in Green Bay. Maybe heading to the Steelers or Seahawks? The odds of both number one seeds losing at home must have been pretty long. Hoping for a Rams-Niners rematch in the NFC championship game.

Congrats to the Niners, a really impressive win in typical nasty Green Bay weather. Green Bay had been 12-2 in home playoff games. Niners earned it. -- Al

Al,

Tuned in in the second half and saw the low score and thought this is going to be a good one. The game did not disappoint and that was a brutal game all the way down to the end. I had a flash of premintion while watching the game and during the punt play I specifically watched the defensive lineman who blocked the punt, Willis. I said "he's going to block it" and he did. It was weird to see something happened before it did. Anyway, something was off with the center and Willis was on all fours ready to pounce and for whatever reason I caught the body language and saw it play out. Honestly, I jumped out of my chair and screamed at the wife to come see the replay. But, what was even crazier was that no one knew where the ball was and you could see the players in a moment of confusion while the ball was in the air. Then in plopped down on the grass and was picked up for a touchdown by the niners. Wow...

One thing I learned in coaching is the most dangerous ball is the one that is in the air and in this instance the game could have gone either way while the ball was in the air. Nobody, including the players expected the punt to be blocked and the mental shift from a regular ole punt, receive and start over-to a blocked punt threw this game into chaos in the last remaining moments. The only ones who knew the game changed was Willis and the punter when it happened and what happened after that is NFL history.

I do question why the long snapper wasn't as big as Willis. Physically he was outmatched and took a knocker from Willis after the snap which up ended him and why the GB line was not tighter and on at least a 3 point stance. They were just kinda standing there...the cold, fatigue...both? Obviously, Willis wasn't having it and put the cold and fatigue misery in his back pocket and blasted through. There is a mental toughness there that I admire.

I said this before, Buffalo is ripe to being beaten with a pressure defense. He does not make great decision when a rush is on, the Chiefs have the goods to do this. After seeing the weapons clicking against IMO a decent Steelers pressure D - KC's weapons are too much. And that RB pickup is a difference maker. I see the Chiefs, Titans and the Packers and Rams/Bucs moving on. I am having trouble betting against Brady, but I think a fully operating Rams team can make it happen, the Defense if on their game will give Brady hell.

TD

Well, I was wrong on last night's games! Great guts by the Bengals, I did think they were ripe to lose with 9 sacks and a key turnover, but............TN didn't capitalize and that is how it goes! Green Bay - hats off to 49ers, kept it close with great defense and then bam, big play, momentum and the offense moved it just enough to win it. Very nice! Maybe my pipe dream of Rogers in the black and gold may come true............still doubt it, but I still like him.

So far, so good for the Rams. Hopefully that fumble before halftime doesn't come back to bite them. It's never over until it's over with Brady, though. The Rams were up 17 on the Niners and managed to blow that one.

Doug...
Brady is making it interesting...
7 point game with 3:15 minutes left...
hope that missed field goal doesn't come back to bite you...
unreal...now a fumble...frickin' unreal...

Good Lord...
I don't believe this...
this is like the 2015 SB game between the Seahawks and New England...

woooooah!!!
that was scary...
Stafford is a stud...
to get in field goal range with that little time on the clock...
4th quarter momentum against the 100%...
best game I have watched all year...
congrats Doug!

Doug Holy crap. Congrats. That was an exciting quarter of football. I thought both of my fsu boys nearly blew it.

Holy cow! My hairline receded three inches by the end of that game. Flashbacks to the owner of the Falcons watching the Super Bowl slip away. The Rams did everything possible to choke. Brady certainly has had some incredible luck in his days with critical turnovers, but Kupp saved the day. A dream rematch with the Niners. The Rams were steaming after they blew that 17-0 lead to end the season. That is going to be a game for the ages.
