They gave him a second chance before the draft; he had no mini camp, camp or preseason games last year, he contracted COVID too, he was a good soldier and did the best he could.
Outside of the second half vs the Seahawks, he sucked last year, got yanked in three games as a matter of fact.
Then Mac Jones landed in their lap on draft day, the perfect QB for the "Brady system" they have run here for 20+ years.
The kid has looked good all camp long, has outplayed Newton, his stats are the best among the rookie class he was drafted in; meaningless to some extent, but still.
They were going nowhere with Cam as their QB, it's time to turn the page and see what the kid can do.
Sunday night, Cam had Bourne wide open down the sideline, but he never looked off/checked down from his first look, he forced the ball to Myers in double coverage..........INT vs a walk in TD.
That was the Cam Newton experience in a nutshell.
I've seen this one play out many times. Lots of hype for a first round QB. A lot of pressure to give him the starting job. He is rushed into the starting role and gets beaten up. Loses confidence. The fans turn on him. He gets traded and ends up working at Taco Bell. Cam was obviously not the solution. But maybe he starts a few games and they ease the rookie into the role. If he survives five games without a major injury, he will be lucky.
