Well, it's Bama 52-24 with 12 minutes left. No surprises and about what was expected. Hard to beat a team that scores 50+ per game. Bama is an offensive juggernaut. -- Al

Somebody has to say it......Roll Tide.

Somebody has to say it......Roll Tide.

What a dynasty, it was men against boys tonight, maybe babies.................Alabama's offensive and defensive lines manhandled tOSU all night long, they are stacked and loaded, probably 5 or 6 first round draft picks.................and they had the #1 recruiting class this year, odds on favorite to repeat.

Roll Tide is right.

Congrats to Alabama on a great win.

With that being said, 2021 college football needs fans in attendance.

Without a student section, mascots, bands etc. college football is basically a minor league system for the NFL.

Saw this on a sports forum I belong to;

Alabama does present problems for defenses.

- Best RB in college football.
- Best WR in college football.
- One of the best QB's in college football.
- Best OL in college football.

I mean...that's a lot to worry about; oh and they are ranked as the #1 program regarding their recruiting class for the 2021 season

Looks like they are odds on favorites to repeat; Roll Tide.....................

So this NIL ruling that allows players to get paid is going to be interesting. College football players have been getting benefits under the table for years. This just makes it legal but I can imagine there will be lots of corruption. Imagine what happens in places like Oregon where China Phil Knight is doling out the cash. Teams like my SC Trojans who play in bigger markets like LA will benefit the most. Recruiting picked up big time after the ruling. Also interesting that attractive female college athletes are becoming instant millionaires. I guess the concerns about objectifying women go out the window when the cash starts flowing. I don't blame them but the hypocrisy abounds.

My opinion/thought on this is they could have preempted this a long time ago by doing the following:

A. Scholarship offered - can be taken in 2 ways: A. Recruit uses scholarship to pay tuition, room and board like normal, but it is a choice. B. Recruit chooses to receive scholarship as a stipend cash equivalent and lives on that money or spends however, etc. In both scenarios, recruit is subject to a citizenship policy, in other words, there are rules and conditions (Same as today) to keep your scholarship or stipend.

B. The other option is to reorganize as a minor league with the school affiliations serving as the teams/owners.

Interesting nonetheless.

Let’s not forget the undergrad and graduate students who contribute to many Universities coffers via research that leads to patents, grants etc.

Those students do not even see the meal stipend that athletes in every sport receive.

But hey, who says college is about any type of academics?

College football is no longer about history or rivalries, it is truly about money.

Yes, but that train left the station a long time ago. The under the table corruption in college football and basketball has been going on since the games were invented. The NCAA is a greedy club and the chickens are now coming home to roost. I don't support paying college athletes and this new system is fraught with potential for corruption but even college athletes seemed entitled to compensation for their names and likeness. Hard to preclude that.

OK, what joker in the scheduling department managed to put all my favorite teams on the tube at the same time? This had to be deliberate. Bama, Terps, and the Middies all play at 3:30 EST. Truly a conspiracy designed to overload my circuits right out of the gate. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I really dislike the automatic ejection rule on targeting. Many of those hits are unintentional, bang-bang plays that can't be deterred by an ejection. The player should only be ejected for an egregious hit where they have an opportunity to avoid it.

The best college football highlight from this week (weekend) was when Boise State QB Hank Bachmeier logged into one of his classes via Zoom during a thunderstorm delay.

Most enjoyable game was Washington and Montana. UW was a 22 point favorite. They come out and score a TD on the opening drive. Figure they will roll up the score. It is 7-3 at halftime. 7-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Montana has a bunch of scrappy players. They have about 15 fans in the stands who can't believe they are not getting rolled. In the fourth quarter, their QB, who looks like a combo of IHOP short order cook and 70s adult entertainment star, drives them down the field for TD. Montana goes up 10-7. They are flying around the field. Get a late FG to make it 13-7. UW tightens up even more. Throw a game ending INT. Montana wins 13-7. Still some great college football games.

Business as usual for Bama, hardly a surprise. Terps came out on top against UWVa, something of a pleasant surprise. Big disappointment as Navy got mashed by Marshall. Looks like a long season in store for the Middies based on yesterdays performance. -- Al

It will be interesting to see what happens with Clemson after losing to Georgia.

Their remaining schedule is weak at best.

Florida State Seminoles, thought we would complete an historic comeback only to lose in overtime to Notre Dame. Tough one. Honestly, I am happy we are not the doormat on the field we became last year but we have a long way to go. The Defense at times was lights out, other times, they were like swiss cheese. Offense, again some highlights and the 2nd QB, hard not to root for him after what should have been career ending knee injury a few years ago, the Mayo clinic calls his knee a medical miracle, he almost single handedly brought them back. Hopefully, it is a season that is competitive and they keep getting better on their way back to the big leagues.

Seminoles certainly shocked the Irish in 4th Qtr. Milton, a former Heisman contender, is clearly the more accomplished QB with far more game experience. But the head coach is playing silly games by not naming Milton the starter for the next game. BTW, FSU held ND to something like 66 yds rushing. Pretty good for a team that was abysmal in that category last yr. Things may be looking up for the Noles. Chris

Chris, do I ever hope your last sentence is correct. Last year was tough, this game was tough and I was cursing at the end of the 3rd as I thought here we go again. But yes agree on Milton, he hopefully gets stronger and stronger. I am still not sold on Norvell, but that is probably b/c I was so content with that old riverboat gambler for 30 years that I got spoiled!!!! Trying to give him more of a chance, I like a number of the assistants and Odell Haggins is still there, so I have some hope as he is a no BS guy and would not stick around and stay a coach if he thought the guy is an idiot. He tried to retire when Taggert came, but Willie begged him as they were childhood friends ( I don't think he ever had confidence in Willie, that should have been an early sign!). Anyhow, hopefully will be an interesting season.
Tom

PS - I know the game went to OT, but prior to that, I thought it was the longest 730pm start game I had ever seen. Freaking ESPN is over the top on commercials (I hate that network, but unfortunately, no real competitor).

On another note, I watched Bama - holy crap, they are just that good. It really looks like they are functioning on another level, Nick Saban has my vote as GOAT right now for College Coaches and that is saying something considering all the great ones that have come and gone. And since someone has to say it - Roll Tide! (And I am not an Alabama fan, but hard not to appreciate them)

Great to see FSU being competitive again.

I too like watching the greatness of Alabama, Ohio State, Norte Dame, Oklahoma etc. but NCAA football desperately needs an influx of new teams, including the revival of once great teams like the Seminoles.

If you include college basketball and football there really are 6 major sports in North America and none among those is more predictable than college football.
