NCAA Football 2019 (2 Viewers)

PS - I know the game went to OT, but prior to that, I thought it was the longest 730pm start game I had ever seen. Freaking ESPN is over the top on commercials (I hate that network, but unfortunately, no real competitor).[/QUOTE]

Tom, as a rule now, I never watch a game live. I record and start watching about an hour after KO. Same applies for BBall. And it's funny. The NCAA is always trying to figure out how to speed up the games. Of course it's all the commercial breaks but hey that's where all the $ millions come from. Chris

Great to see FSU being competitive again.

I too like watching the greatness of Alabama, Ohio State, Norte Dame, Oklahoma etc. but NCAA football desperately needs an influx of new teams, including the revival of once great teams like the Seminoles.

If you include college basketball and football there really are 6 major sports in North America and none among those is more predictable than college football.

Any given week, we can get upsets, but it does seem that the playoff is pretty darn predictable. One thing that still greatly upsets me is the super conferences. I don't like that, I miss the Ole Southwest conference with the Pony Express at SMU. I know tv money is big, but jeez it was a lot more fun when there were multiple competitive conferences.

Speaking of another team that is going to be tough at least from first glance is Ole Miss. I like what they are doing there and it is nice to see the Rebels return. I just hope they didn't cheat again, they seem to have an issue down there with recruiting violations.............!

NIL is transforming HS and college fball. A Kentucky HS QB was the prospective Mr Football for the state this yr. Someone at Rutgers U offered him $500K if he would enroll there this fall. He has enough credits to graduate. He accepted the offer after beating his HS rival fball team. Can't say I blame him. I'm sure there are many more examples. Chris

Georgia doesn't score an offensive touchdown and rises four spots to #2 in the AP poll. :rolleyes2: Go figure. Chris

Chris:

I am so tired of polls deciding anything in college football.

The whole system is garbage and UGA moving up to No. 2 all but proves that it is noth8ng more than a worthless and illegitimate system.

Best,
Jason

USC and New England Pat great Sam "Bam" Cunningham passed away. He was a gamer. I can remember him lining up at the goal line and leaping over the d-line into the end zone like a rocket. He is a big reason Alabama finally integrated their football team. Hard to believe but until 1970 Bama would not allow black players on the team. In 1970, though, SC played Bama and gave them a beat down. Bear decided the times were a changing after that game.

His 73 Rose Bowl 4 TD performance was awesome, but it's comical as they were basically plunges over the top at the goal line.

He was a great Patriot, his rushing totals are still unmatched by anyone, he was a beast in 1978.

RIP BAM.

Time for some predicts for this gorgeous weekend:

Ohio St. 40 Oregon 17 - the game of the week on paper of two highly ranked teams but Oregon stinks on ice. Team Nike get a buckeye beatdown on the road in the ugliest green and yellow uniforms in history.

USC 24 Stanford 20 - the mighty and fully NCAA compliant Trojans win ugly in a closer than expected game. SC struggles with the Trees physical play but they have skill players to win despite "doughboy" Helton coaching them to mediocrity.

Bama 106 Mercer 3 - Bama plays the traditional cupcake game that should not be allowed to count as a win. A travesty.

Iowa 31 Iowa St 28 - probably the best actual game of the week with both teams highly ranked. Big rivalry even when both teams are not good. Should be a brutal, hate filled game with fans beating each other senseless in the time honored tradition. Iowa St. ripped off the USC Trojan uniforms so fate punishes them.

Business as usual for Bama, hardly a surprise. Terps came out on top against UWVa, something of a pleasant surprise. Big disappointment as Navy got mashed by Marshall. Looks like a long season in store for the Middies based on yesterdays performance. -- Al
Terps massacred hapless Howard 62-0. Money can make smaller schools do crazy things with their football schedule. Terps have a decent win against WVa and a joke win against Howard. Don't know how good/bad they actually are yet. Navy, on the other hand, looks hapless. Losing to AF yesterday 23-3, they looked lost offensively, no clue. Middies now 0-2, and have been outscored 72-10. I don't see much relief in their schedule with what they've shown so far, so it's looking like a 1 or 2 win season is possible. Yikes. -- Al

Just when I thought FSU was coming back, we lose to Jax St. last play of game, you just can't make it up. Ohio St and USC surprisingly fall too, another strange day. But in usual news, Bama rolls and Saban is hopping made after only a 31 pt. win.

Tom, there were two FSU defensive backs between the Jax player and the goal line on that last play of the game. No excuses for them IMO. And Milton, again, clearly showed he is the better QB for the 'Noles. HC needs to stop the rotation. Maybe he's trying to keep Travis from transferring after Milton leaves at the end of the season. Seminoles were so close to being 2-0 instead of the reverse. Chris

Bama was 60 point favorites last weekend. Saban is smart enough not to run up the score in these cupcakes games, though, to expose them for a travesty. Once he is up 30 points he calls off the dogs. A brutal weekend for my Trojans. They were spanked and embarrassed by Stanford. The upside is that it brings the firing of Clay Helton one game closer. Nice guy but terrible coach.

Looks like you got you wish; he just got canned.

USC firing their head coach is an early Fall tradition like no other.

They've made more poor choices than my still single 52 year old sister on a Saturday night in Da Club..................................

Happy days are here again! He was an awful coach. The Gomer Pyle-like expression on his face every weekend when his team underperformed was priceless. The Mets-Yankees game on Saturday night lasted about 20 hours but if you stayed up late enough to watch the SC game, Helton's facial expressions were priceless. He's just another in a long line of terrible coaches at SC, though. All of whom were snapped up for millions to ruin other college football programs after being fired. Sarkisian coached while drunk at USC and then sued the school when he was fired claiming his alcoholism was a disability. You can't make that up. But then Texas hired him with his long track record of disasters to coach there and paid him millions. Texas got absolutely rolled by Arkansas this weekend. Eight win Cutty Sark will last about another year there before being canned. Those fans will run him out of town like the villagers with burning torches marched on Frankenstein's castle. Coaching college football must be a great gig. Like being a general. No matter how badly you fail, you just move on. No accountability for failures.

I hear you on SC, totally shocked me as I stayed up to watch that game. I thought for sure their talent would get them moving a win. After what I witnessed at FSU, I am still trying to hold out hope for the coach as I really don't want another new one unless it is Nick Saban or Bill Belichick.

I dont know Coach Hestler, what he looks like or anything about his coaching record. I do know personal attacks based on appearance, or sweeping derogatory statements about "long lines of terrible coaches" convince me of nothing other than the character of the person who said them.

That is one of the weirdest posts in a long time. Are you his mother or something? I said that he was a nice guy but a terrible coach. His facial expressions during the game were hilarious. Get a grip.

While I am no fan of USC it is worth pointing out that they are partially limited by their academic standards, they currently stand at 27th in overall academic rankings.

Vaunted Alabama ranks 148 in academics and the 2019 campion LSU ranks 172. Recent champion Clemson is a little better coming in at 75 and the other perennial champ, Ohio State ranks 49th.

Well, with FSU's recent records, we must be at #1!!!!!!!!!!!:)
