Terps massacred hapless Howard 62-0. Money can make smaller schools do crazy things with their football schedule. Terps have a decent win against WVa and a joke win against Howard. Don't know how good/bad they actually are yet. Navy, on the other hand, looks hapless. Losing to AF yesterday 23-3, they looked lost offensively, no clue. Middies now 0-2, and have been outscored 72-10. I don't see much relief in their schedule with what they've shown so far, so it's looking like a 1 or 2 win season is possible. Yikes. -- Al
Terps edged Illinois at the gun with a FG, 20-17. This was a game that the Terps should have won handily but they struggled offensively, had turnovers and generally played down to the opposition. Still have no feel for this team, even as they are 3-0, but this game made me suspect that the Terps are not quite ready for prime time, as usual. -- Al

Al:

Like I have always said, Maryland football is an absolute conundrum.

They have so much talent in their own backyard, yet they seem to lose those players to programs across the country.

In recent years they have increasingly improved, yet they have been unable to sustain any success.

I think they can do some really damage in the Big 10 this year and as a college sports fan I hope they do!

Jason, a nice run by the Terps would be most welcome, but as a fan since the mid-60's, a student in the early 70's, and an alumni since then, I hold no illusions regarding UMD football. The years under Claiborne (1972-1981, W/L of 77-37-3) and Ross (1982-1986, W/L 39-19-1) spoiled most of us and every headcoach since then has been compared to those two, and found wanting. I have watched every season, always hoping, so hope springs eternal, and I will do so again this season, but with no real expectation of return to glory.:wink2: -- Al

Yeah, like he said, except for the part about hope springs eternal. :redface2: Chris

USC fires their coach last week after getting spanked, their airplane tips over on the tarmac, they go on the road, their starting QB is knocked out of the game in the first series, it is raining, they fall behind 14-0, they bring in a true freshman who has never taken a snap, and he runs off 45 unanswered points. They win 45-14. College football is a strange game.

And in other news, the Noles lose again to 0-3. Oh boy, long season again.

And the Terps are 3-0. Mixed feelings there as I have posted ad nauseum before.

Some buzz about Deion Sanders being considered for the USC coaching job. That would be a bold and risky move. Recruits would love it. LA is a big stage for a star like Deion but not a lot of experience coaching. If he had the assistant coaches, it would sure not be dull.

Would not be a bad choice. I was hoping he may consider the Noles.

I doubt SC ends up hiring Deion. Just too risky for them after a series of disasters but Deion would bring the recruits. The Noles would be a great fit for him. It would certainly be an interesting experiment. He would either succeed big or fail big.

4 weeks into the college football season and I am still looking for my hat trick.

Texas won, Cal lost but Stanford lost too.

Maybe next week?

Terps win against Kent State to go 4-0 on the year, a surprise, but only the win over WVa has any validity. We Terps will take it, with a grain of salt. Navy lost again, now 0-3, and things look kind of grim in 'Napolis. -- Al

UK overcomes 5 turnovers to beat S Carolina 16-10. Cats are 4-0, includes two cupcakes. Florida next (followed by Georgia and LSU). Gators are like 33-1 against UK in last 34 yrs. :redface2: Chris

Further proof that the poll system is absolute garbage, Clemson remains in the top 25 as the only team with 2 loses.

UM lost to Iowa 51-14. Who saw that coming? :wink2: Chris

Totally expected. I just knew it. Fortunately, I had no idea the game was on a Friday night so I missed it. Saw the score this AM. Just not ready for prime time. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I saw it was on FS1 but the score 31-7 just before the half. No reason to watch at that point.

Chris, you skipped it, I missed it, so at least Terp Alumni luck is not all bad. ^&grin -- Al

Kentucky beats #10 Florida 20-13 at home for the first time since 1986. UK is 2-2 in the last four matchups. Lexington is ecstatic but plays Georgia in 3 weeks. :rolleyes2: Cats at 5-0 look to be ranked this week. May be short lived. Chris

Loved this game! Anytime the Gators lose, I am a number one fan of the opposition! (I Do like your Coach). And FSU Finally won a game, albeit last second literally field goal, but I will take it. We were up 10 I think in the 4th qtr. But nice weekend to win!

One more addition, nice to see Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M pick up his second loss of the season! Pretty good weekend all the way around!
