This FSU/Louisville game is dreadfully bad.

A dumpster fire would be more entertaining to watch.

I feel bad for fsu defense. Hard to support 3rd string deer in headlights. Shame about injuries to certain positions. ReLly changes the game.

The part that sucks about this is now you've got a wounded FSU team that's going to get in at the expense of either Texas or Alabama, either of those teams could easily win the whole thing.

FSU has no ****ing shot at winning it, period.

If it's based on the four best teams, it should be Michigan, Texas, Alabama and Georgia, it would be two great games with a great final.

Now you're going to end up with Michigan getting stuck playing either Texas or Alabama with Washington and FSU playing each other, one of those teams get basically a free pass to the final, where either will get demolished.

What could have been an epic playoff will now suck.

I think the fsu defenses can play with anyone, that said thr offense needs a qb that can get it to their world class receivers. without that they can not win it all. It is a weird one this year.

George & Tom:

Michigan and UW are in.

The other 2 places are up for grabs.

FSU, Texas, Alabama and UGA all have legitimate claims to those spots.

No need to blame the student athletes and their respective colleges for this crap, the blame goes to the most pathetic system in all of sports for this contrived and meaningless chaos.

The winner in all of this is not equity, the winner, as usual is money.

You took the words right out of my mouth/keyboard - money. My opinion is that if they follow the prescribed formula they have laid out (supposedly), then Michigan is in, Washington is in, Florida State is in and the last spot goes to Texas. Reasoning why- of the teams with one loss, they are a Power 5 Conf Champ and they beat the team in their home stadium convincingly that is the other 1 loss team with the biggest claim - Alabama.

Now, back to money, SEC is powerful as we all know and so is Alabama, unfortunately, I think FSU or Texas will lose out here due to that reason. It is wrong but I think it will happen.

As to FSU, I hate to see them penalized for an injury, but I think that is what will happen. I also feel bad for Georgia, but it is hard to keep winning like that no matter how good you are and I do think Georgia is that good. All of that said, the teams that won should be judged and rewarded according to the guidelines set out, I just think there will be controversy due to the money and the power of the SEC. My own personal opinion on Alabama even though I respect them as an elite program is they are nowhere near as good as they have been, but they are well coached and they were ready to play and win in that SEC championship game.

The four best teams:

I agree with the second list, but I don't think it will happen, the SEC and ESPN are pretty powerful. As to the 4 best, I actually think that is a hard list right now. Michigan, yes, Washington, yes (I was more impressed with their running game as they manhandled Oregon). Alabama - no for the reasons I stated, they played a perfect game IMO against Georgia, but they looked not so good for many weeks this year and I just don't see the same talent level they have had in the past. Are they better than most, yes of course. Georgia, I could tend to agree with, lots of weapons and they had a very off day. That said, they also trailed in a ton of games this year, like they could never get off the block.

FSU - My comment on them is they have arguably one of the best def lines and two of the top receivers in the Country. However, no seasoned QB is a killer. Texas - again, one of the best d lines in the country and the largest CB since Mel Blount. 3 of the best receivers in the Country. Ewers - when he is on, he looks like a mini general (not the best arm, not the fastest, but efficient), when he is off.............bad, his arm accuracy can be awful.

Bottom line, the only complete team IMO I have seen this year is Michigan. They look booming on both sides of the ball and are dominant at the right time of the year.

Now, regardless of who the final 4 are, we are over a month out and a lot can change. Academics, injuries, legal, etc. I do think the new 12 team format that is coming will eliminate a lot of controversy, you will have sour grapes, but they will be at lower seeds in the 2 loss teams. I personally, would have gone with a 10 team format and 2 byes.

Just my opinion.

I'm no college football expert regarding power rankings, I go by the eye test and to me, the top four teams I've seen play this year are;

Georgia
Michigan
Texas
Alabama

Those are the four teams I'd love to see in a playoff, all three games would be epic.

But instead, we're going to get;

Michigan
Washington
FSU
Texas

And listen Tom, no offense, your kid goes to Texas, so now you're a longhorns fan.

Great.

That said, all I keep hearing on other message boards from Texas fans is "Yeah, but we beat Alabama at Alabama by DOUBLE digits while they beat Georgia on a neutral field!!"...............if the shoe was on the other foot, Texas fans would be saying "Yeah, we lost to Alabama at home in a close game by ONLY 10, that was early in the season, but we beat 4 top 25 teams and just knocked off the #1 team in the country who had won 29 in a row/not one but TWO national championships in a stadium that was filled with 80% Georgia fans!!!"

Keep moving those goalposts to fit your argument.

The committee in the past has taken one loss teams that lost early in the season.

I really have no dog in the fight, I didn't attend any of those universities, play on any of the teams, have kids that go to a certain school, have friends who attended a certain school, or drive past a certain school on my way to the smokey mountains for a vacation, so in the end, I'm not going to stroke out over one team getting in over another.

It should be Michigan, Washington, Texas, Alabama based on the BEST teams logic, but instead, we'll probably get Michigan, Washington, FSU and Texas, the Michigan/Texas winner will win the whole thing.

I'll tune in as long as Michigan hangs in there.

Oh and BTW, nice shots of Vince Young on the sidelines yesterday; have to give him credit, he hasn't missed too many free meals and drinks over that miracle win over USC in the national championship game, what a long and storied NFL career that guy had, I've had cups of coffee that lasted longer, but he's a hero in Texas.

And yeah, being a lifelong OU fan, I HATE Texas with the fire of 10,00 suns.

If that loss to OU means they don't get in, then my work is done.

Just sayin.

No offense to ya'll Texas fans out there.

Ok, carry on.

You have some valid points and some OU fan points :) In all seriousness, IMO they should stick with the formula and let it play out regardless. That said, there is the 1 loss Ohio St. exception where they won it all even though a far superior Alabama team blew the semi final to them with poor play, horrid officiating, etc, you name it, Alabama "wore" it that year. OSU again, IMO, didn't deserve to be there that year, but heck they won it all. As much as that pained me, they did it in hindsight.

As I said, in truth, out of the top 6 or so, anyone of them could win, but I do think Michigan is the "best" right now.

Regarding Texas/Alabama, that loss is the key piece of that puzzle. Now, is FSU at risk of being "screwed" yup, they are the ones who will have the "subjective' review applied and that is where it gets weird.

I don't know, this is a tough one for all of the reasons posted. We will find out shortly and probably nobody will be really happy.

With all the talk of who is getting in, the commentators are ignoring the elephant in the room. If the NCAA follows past precedent including vacating USC's 2004 national championship, 14 wins, taking away 30 scholarships, and banning USC from a bowl game for three years because Reggie Bush's parents lived in a rent-free home, an act that did not impact the outcome of a single game, then this entire year should go up in smoke if Michigan wins out.

The NCAA has to vacate all of Michigan's wins for the last three years including the national championship, force Harblow to leave, and ban Michigan from any bowl games in the coming years. The sign stealing scandal had a direct impact on Michigan's success, Harblow has never acknowledged any responsibility, and instead made his cheating into a cause. Much more serious than anything Reggie Bush did. Why are they even allowed into the playoff to perpetuate this scandal?

Answer: money.

No matter how it turns out, fans of a undefeated conference championship team (FSU), a one loss conference championship team (Texas) or a one loss conference championship team that beat the #1 team in the country (Alabama) is going to get screwed.

Thankfully this is the last year of this nonsense as the field expands next year.

And then there's this argument.

Harblow is potentially the biggest alpha hotel in the history of coaching. He refused to accept the Big Ten trophy last night from the commissioner because he feels aggrieved. Imagine the world that we live in where you can cheat, get caught red handed, lie about it, fire the underlings to save your own skin, and then act like the victim. Meanwhile the NCAA brings down the hammer on minor violations that do not impact the game. Lame Kiffin was once sanctioned for using a fog machine in practice to impress recruits.

I'm conflicted with all of this.

Jason is a good customer/better friend, Texas fan.
Tom's son is a great kid/attends Texas.
Tom is a good egg, he and I talk all the time, we've teamed up on a major purchase/have made major bank.
I'm an Alabama fan from way back (and no, I did not attend/play on the team/have friends who went there/drive by there on my way to the Appalachian Mountains on the way to vacation.)
So, that said................

ROLL TIDE!!

OR

HOOK EM HORNS BABY!!

I always say a bunch on nonsense and foolishness makes great debate and conversation. I think they are selecting now, I am going to go play with some toy soldiers, more fun I think!

So FSU is out. As a disinterested fan, I would much rather watch a competitive Michigan-Alabama game than FSU getting rolled 60-0. I can understand that FSU fans don't like it and it isn't fair to be penalized for an injury while Michigan gets in the playoff despite cheating, but FSU would not be competitive with the other teams.

Just saw that the DNA results are in and prove that Nick Saban is Kirby Smart's daddy. LOL. I didn't fully realize how dominate Bama has been in that matchup with Georgia. I'm not a fan of Nick Satan, but you have to give him his due. When all is said and done, he will be the greatest college football coach in history. Amazing numbers. No cheating. Just hard work and a psychopath's fixation on winning. Bama really struggled early in this season but kept getting better. Now they are in the playoff. They are the only team with a realistic shot to beat Michigan.

I don't know what you are looking at, but I don't consider Alabama dominate on anyone this year, I watched them most of the year. They are an outstanding football team. But they won by 3 points in a conference championship against an arguable rival. Did they play a helluva game? Yes, did Georgia? No. Would Georgia beat them tomorrow in a rematch............possible, probable.

I think you should take this playoff off this year. Reason - Harbaugh is going to beat Alabama. Sark is going to beat Washington. Then in prep for the big game, Bill Belichick is going to come in after his resignation with the Patriots and be an offensive game planner for Sark on how to beat Harbaugh.

I am personally biased, but you take the cake. You hate Harbaugh, You hate Sark, You hate Belichick, you usually hate Sabin (except convenient now), takes a lot of effort on your part, oh and I forgot you hate Georgia b/c of member here Rutledge. Did I miss anyone? If I were you, I would consider hating Lincoln Riley, he will most likely never find a defense, just not in his nature.

On a more serious note, I do think (fanboy or not) that FSU got screwed and Alabama caught a break. For me, there is no "predictor" in how college football teams will perform in the future, you are talking about immature college kids for the most part at the end of the day regardless of superb coaching.

But back to the grindstone, carry on.

Once again, "FSU not competitive", wrong. That defense can play with anyone. Just ask the locals where I live, they have watched this play out with the Ravens for years. Is it maddening and hard to watch, sure, but Defense wins. Here is my prediction as I think FSU will meet Georgia. I am picking FSU. Have an odd feeling they will be wanting that win more than any other one and the D plays out of this world.
