Here are my thoughts:
A. FSU got screwed, that is what is broken with the system. You can't predict how a team will play in the future. Their defense is world class and I have a feeling they are going to beat Georgia in the bowl game. Talk about a hungry team, I would take them and the points they will inevitably be given 10 times a week and twice on Sunday. Their pass rush (if they all play) is wicked. NOW, with not being in the hunt, their could be a ton of defensive stars who opt out and we might not see how good they really are.
B. Alabama is just not as dominant as they have been, I am not sure they are the 4th best team. They are shaky, they legit could get blown out by Michigan, all you have to do is look at the Auburn game and for argument sakes, a lackadaisical Georgia team that made mistake after mistake, bad play calling, you name it they did it in addition to Alabama playing well. The end result was a 3 pt game. On the flipside, I never count Nick Sabin out of anything, I do believe they will be prepared and if they execute like the stretch in GA from the 2nd qtr til midway 4th, they can beat anyone.
C. Georgia had the problem this year of winning too many in a row. They were tight and mistake prone all year (especially first half), they trailed I think in 8 games this year for a majority of the game or at least til half? Sounds to me that it wasn't a lack of talent, it was complacency.
This is an odd year, there is not a really dominant team other than arguably Michigan, but I am always suspect of Big 10 teams. They typically underperform in championships, i.e. they don't win the big one.
As to a Texas vs Alabama final, it is probably what the committee is hoping for. The reason..................money. These 2 schools have the most rabid fanbases who will travel and spend and attend those games. As a ticket buyer, I have gotten literally 45 emails since Saturday with different packages available. My son as a student has also received the same amount of emails - 90% from the University itself!
Anyhow, by way of my post and the point/counterpoints above, I think there are a lot of unknowns going in to this. Will you have any opt outs in the Top 4? Maybe, if that happens, holy moly, will change a lot of what we see. The lure of pro Money is strong too. Think about it, if you know you are a legit pick, are you going to risk $40 Million for a game?
