'Other' for me too! but I would like to see a range for The Sudan War, but that isn't going to happen according to FL's reply on another thread, so Britains will get my money when their new range comes out.

Those were a series of wars involving the British right? What were the major clashes? So I take it some of you all have no second or third choices?

Sudan/Afghanistan would a really interesting line. Having a Bengal lancer display would be awesome.

Pleasant dreams Matt, "CID, CID, CID, CID, CID":D

Don Rodrigo, El Cid...:eek::D

We have a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition buried here in Sacramento County. His name was Alexander Hamilton Willard. For a potential new line, The expedition had their traveling clothes and dress uniforms for when they meeting new tribes. A lot of potential there.

The more I think about this idea, the more I like it. It would truly be something out of the ordinary.

I voted 'Other', as I'd like to see FL do Starship Troopers. How cool would that be? I don't think anyone else has done this line ever. How 'bout it Matt? It'll give you an excuse to watch the film again, for research material? :)

Funnily enough, I was listening to the song of the same name by Yes last night while putting a music compilation together.
What an amazing coincidence...???
;)....:D:D:D

So it's like THAT huh? ;)

Sudan or bust? There is nothing else we could make that would interest you in all of world's military history? No second choice or third choice? Just wondering...

Good lord I'm gone for a while and all hell breaks loose. Can't we just have fun guessing what will be next.Matt has any of the ideas sparked in your mind?

Sigh - my original post was in no way meant as an attack on ANYONE'S personal collecting preferences. I ought to have known better of course.
The point I was trying to make - and I believe you got it Mark - was that given the choices available in this poll and your suggestion for a Vlad range, then I reckon it would be a bit of a waste if FL were to simply rehash ranges and themes that are already available - even though they would have that unique FL quality to them. And I do understand why individuals would want to vote for FL to offer figures and vehicles that satisfy their collecting focus and desires. That is, after all, exactly the same as I'm doing.

I accepted that I might be seen as having a "dig" at some kind of Holy Icon on this forum by expressing that I'd rather not see FL spend too much time and effort on WWII when there's so many other, and for me personally, more interesting and colourful choices in the poll. And I say that as a died-in-the-wool WWII collector...!!! Maybe they're not all that attractive choices for other collectors. That's one of the beauties of this hobby.

No-one, least of all me, is dictating what folks should vote for, or in the least bit suggesting that WWII collectors ought not put forward their ideas and desires, or indeed are not welcome on this thread. That's a simply ludicrous intention to read into my original and subsequent posts. I actually invited comments, positive or negative, in order to open up reasonable discussions regarding the poll.
I was simply expressing my personal opinions which I believe I'm entitled to do - just the same as everyone else is entitled to express their own firmly-held opinions on a public forum. By the looks of things, the vast majority of responses indicate that my points of view, and reasons for posting them, were completely understood by all apart from my good friend Rob, whom I shall be delighted to see resume his interesting and well thought out contributions to this thread.

Regards
Harry

Cool track. Haven't listened to that for years. I'll have to dig it out.

My second and third choices would be ACW. ( 142nd NY, 114th Pa or 155th PA Zouaves.)
Or the Trojan/Mycenaean. Same period could Egyptian/Hittite.

Aah-hah, but my more juvenile posts cleverly disguise the fact that I was at College when stuff like that was actually in the album charts - with all that implies. In fact my taste in music is almost as eclectic as my tastes in TS eras - as a few folk on this forum will discover when they receive the flashdrives I'm sending them in a couple of weeks time.

There's plenty of different periods of history that interest me, I already collect Napoleonic, Crimean, Zulu War and Asian themed figures, it's just the Sudan War was a favourite of mine from my wargaming days and imho needs to be represented in a matt range. I'm sure you could produce a rather magnificent series :)

Jeff

I might buy select figures of other ranges but it's FIW or nothing for me.

So after a few days I thought it would be interesting to add the additional choices and others and note where we were to date. I ordered these based on the un-weighted choices and the order would change a bit using the weighted (3 for 1st, 2 for 2nd 1 for 3rd) version. Nonetheless, when you add the additional choices the order surprised me somewhat. Reading from left, the numbers represent: number of 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, sum and weighted sum.

American Civil War 5, 1, 6, 0, 17
Reconquista: Spain vs. the Moors, Charlemagne, El Cid 1, 3, 1, 5, 10
Boxer Rebellion 4, 0, 0, 4, 12
Anglo Zulu War 3, 1, 0, 4 11
French and Indian Wars 3, 0, 1, 4, 10
Ancient Roman: Gallic, Britain, Parthian, Roman Civil Wars 2, 1, 1, 4, 9
WW I 2, 1, 0, 3, 8
Crusades 2, 1, 0, 3, 8
Lewis / Clark 2, 0, 1, 3, 8
Macedonian / Trojan 1, 2, 0, 3, 7
Mongolian Conquests 2, 0, 1, 3, 7
Alexander's Conquests 2, 0, 0, 2, 6
Ancient Rome: Punic, Macedonian 2, 0, 0, 2, 6
American Revolutionary War 2, 0, 0, 2, 6
Thirty Years War: Musketeers etc 1, 1, 2, 5
Sudan 1, 0, 0, 1, 2, 5
Hundred Years War 1, 0, 0, 1, 3
Franco Prussian 1870 1, 0, 0, 1, 3
Korea 1, 0, 0, 1, 3
Starship Troopers 1, 0, 0, 1, 3
Boer War 0, 1, 0, 1, 2
Early Britain: Saxon, Viking, Britains 1, 1, 2
Apache 1870 0, 1, 1, 2
Seminole Wars 0, 0, 2, 2, 2

The numbers pretty much speak for themselves. I was more than a little surprised to see that the Spanish / Moorish Wars did so well (2nd un-weighted, 5th weighted). If the two Roman periods were added they would have been 2nd.

To continue with FL's orientation towards Eastern Europe:

The Teutonics against the Eastern European people. Perhaps 1242 (Battle on the Ice: Lake Peipus) or possibly even better 1410 (Disaster for the Teutonic Knights: Tannenberg).

Long live Alexander Nevsky!!

... and FL has already done its homework on these subjects as the knights are available in 40mm.

PS: Just got my greatgrand-parents to register in order to be able to vote.

I would also like to see First Legion and other manufacturers cover new eras as opposed to doing more of what is already out there.

I already collect two AZW, two FIW and one ACW range and am unlikely to collect another range in any of them.

Of what's already suggested I'd probably most like to see El Cid or saxons vs vikings or late medieval balkan wars (Vlad the impaler or perhaps Hunyadi)

My suggestions for something new would be:

Italian Abyssinian war 1896
Russo Turkish war 1877
Satsuma Rebellion (i.e "last Samurai")
Hussite Wars - shortly after Grunwald but you also have war wagons and handgunners; or
Great Northern War (300th anniversary of Poltava was earlier this month)

However, whatever range First Legion choose I hope they stick with it (e.g. 100 figures plus). I think most manufacturers have a range that gets abandoned too early. I'd rather see 200 new Stalingrad figures than 10 new ranges of twenty figures each.
