Nfl season 2017-2018 (2 Viewers)

Despite certain problems the league is having, the NFL made $14 billion in revenue last year and Goodell is a major reason for that. In addition, the new contract is incentive laden to make sure he focuses on growing annual revenues. Goodell’s guaranteed salary before those potential bonuses will be about $4 million a year.

IMO he is not worth 4 cents as a person. He is the epitome of a horse's rear.

I couldn’t agree more but the NFL is a money making enterprise and that is what he is being rewarded for.

He must be really good at the parts of his job the owner care about ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$); either that, or he knows where all the bodies are buried.

It's a club in which they each reward the other. It obviously is not merit based since the NFL is in complete disarray. In just a few years it has gone from the dominate sport to a dysfunctional one.

RG is a known entity. Who would be his replacement? The players would probably push for an ex player. The owners want someone loyal to the league, and them, no questions asked. Hate him, but he has no other competing interests and has personally been well behaved, no hint of scandal and pretty low key. He also presents well and doesn’t let internal discussions leak.

Until there is a legit heir apparent, or he screws up personally, he stays on the job.

The majority of NFL owners did not make their billions by owning a football team. Their money has been made through everything from real estate to communications conglomerates. The thought that these billionaires are taking orders (or advice for that matter) from a guy making $4 million or even $40 million is less than plausible to me.

He is a front man at best, taking the public hits that they do not want to take from fans like you and me.

No disrespect intended but Goodell has made a lot of money for the owners. That’s why they love him. Thanks to Goodell’s negotiation of lucrative television rights deals and enhancements to other revenue streams, the NFL’s total revenues have surpassed $14 billion, more than a 50% increase from 2010. That is why he’s highly compensated.

Nailed it.

He's a front man who takes all the public hits that the owners don't want to take.

He takes the owners money and does what he's told and like Brad said, like him or not, he's made the owners a **** ton of money and at the end of the day, he's not here to liked, he's here make the owners money and be their stooge of a front man.

Period.

I remember a couple of years back he was doing a press conference announcing rule changes and a reporter was asking him about some of the criticisms of those new rules. He fumbled around with a half response, and then finally said that the rules committees (certain owners) had made that rule and he was not part of the actual discussion.

In some on the field news, Geno Smith is not happy that he is being benched for Eli Manning this week.

The comical thing about all of this is like Brad said, they are not a bad team; they'll draft a QB, then the **** ton of injured players they have will be back and they'll be right back in the mix next year in the NFC East..................

that's a division game...might not mean much to anybody else...as Giants and Cowboys are out...but division games in the NFC East are a huge deal...they all hate Dallas...

and Dallas...Philly...the Skins and the Giants live in their own world when it comes to playing each other...lot of hate here by veterans...lots of rings here over the years...some of the players are new...but none of the fans forget...

have heard more than one player say...I don't care how we do this year...as long as we beat the Cowboys...

anyway...Smith has a reason to be mad...as does Eli...

don't know who's in charge or who makes the decision...but flip flopping does not instill any confidence...but it might light a spark...

The NFC East rivalries have withstood the test of time. Most of other rivalries come and go as players and team personnel change. In the NFC East the teams hated each other in the 70's and they hate each other today, no matter who is on the other team.

Looks like the Browns have a good shot at winning a game today. If so, the Packers’ playoff chances are dead and buried.

Well Packers tied with Browns and pressing in overtime for the win with 7 min. left. After playing Dallas tough, the Giants roll over big at the end. Sorry Louis, I'm sure you were watching this one.

And Green Bay wins - TD.

The Browns “pulled defeat out of the jaws of victory” so the Packers are still alive.

The Giants have moved into the number 2 draft position as they looked terrible and Garoppolo looked good as the 49ers won.

Couple of questions...will Cleveland ever win again?...how does Marvin Lewis keep his job in Cinncy, having never won a single playoff game, even if the Bungles ever make the playoffs? Inquiring minds want to know. -- Al

Ah gee, what a shame seeing them get curb stomped by Dallas; way to rally around Opie and show management they were wrong to bench him........................glorious.

And a crucial game between Eagles and Rams at LA started with a bang - deflect intercept of Wentz leads to easy TD for Rams. It's crash bang as we come to the end of the season. The Eagles have a tough end of season to get through. A number of teams can rise to the top now. I'll reserve judgement until the end of season to see where my money stands. Oh! Eagles tied it up.

Why are the Chargers and Rams playing at the same time in LA when their stadiums are 12 miles apart?

Oh yeah, no one in LA is a fan of either team, so no big deal...................

I'll reserve final judgement for another quarter or so but it looks like the Deadskins have just given up against the Chargers. -- Al
