Nfl season 2017-2018 (1 Viewer)

The officiating is a lot different in the Vikes game from the earlier one. The flags are really flying. I prefer letting them play like they did in the Steelers game. Don't think I've seen a single punt return yet. Even on the fair catches there is a penalty about a third of the time. A bad sign for the Saints when your punter walks on the field grabbing his chest like he has just been kicked by a mule.

Despite the 900 ticky tack penalties on the Aints, they've stormed back from a 17-0 hole to take the lead 21-20, what a game..................3:00 minutes left, we'll see what the immortal Casey Kassem has.................

Beginning to look like the NFC will be putting a rep in the SB that has never won the SB before, be it the Vikings or the Eagles. Won't matter as I don't see either of them as capable of beating the New England Yankees, er, the Patriots. -- Al
Tremendous game for the Vikes and the Saints. Where was the Saints deep coverage on the last play of the game? And the NFL needs to do something about their absurd review policies. It just takes so long that what flow a game might have is constantly being disrupted. -- Al

did the Vikings finally kick an extra point...

and if not...why not?

my line was Minn - 4 1/2...

I covered...

but I'm guessing a lot of people had it at 5...

and they got a tie...not a win...

I missed it...did they ever kick an extra point?

Evidently no extra point. Final shows as 29-24. -- Al

Most teams take a knee on the PAT if they score a TD to win on the final play of regulation.

is that what happened tonight?

I never saw the attempt or knee...
just wondering...
cause it probably was meaningful to the Vegas crowd...

All I hear about the NFL is it's a QB driven league; if you have a very good QB, you'll be fine.

So in the quarterfinals this weekend, we had Brees, Roethlisberger, Brady, Ryan, Foles, Bortles, Kenum and Mariotta.

Now in the semi finals we get this; Bray and the march of the tomato cans.........Foles, Casey Kasem and Bortles.

Holy Christ, talk about exciting...........imagine trying to sell the Foles/Casey Kasem match up next weekend.

And people wonder why this sports popularity is going into the toilet.......................

That was a heartbreaker for the Saints, my lord, how did they blow that.

Seriously, I stand by what I said, it is the Pats to lose.

What on earth was that safety doing on that play; make the tackle and the game is over.

Unbelievable.

We could have had Brees/Ryan and Brady/Roethlisberger, a ratings bonanza, now we get Brady with 35 playoff games under his belt and three tomato cans with a combined 4 playoff games.

The networks must be thrilled.

George...

the analyst broke this down...they explained it...they showed it in slow mo...he was there for the hit...the safety was all over it...but the hit would have been way too early...he couldn't stop his momentum...he swerved at the last second and barely clipped the receiver with his shoulder...

for real...at the last second...the safety pulled off so it would not be pass interference and giving them a field goal attempt...

watch it again...he tried to pull off so he would get the interference call...

and he ended up giving way more than a field goal attempt...

I'm coming in at the other end of the spectrum, I could care less who's QBing, I'm glad to see new teams fighting it out, of course we must have our complimentary Pats team there, I'm all in on that other purple team and home team of treefrog treasures!!! Let's go Vikes!!! Skoal!!!!

I don’t think fans are tuning in because of the QB only. Moreover, these are conference championship games so I don’t think who the QB is really matters.

Okay, now the only really interesting question that remains...Will it be the Vikings or Eagles that get to lose the SB to the Pats? Sorry to say it, but the Pats are to the NFL as the Yankees of the 50's were to MLB. They win time after time, taking any excitement out of the equation. The only hope for an interesting SB is for Jacksonville to pull the upset of the century in the championship game, then maybe the NFL will have an interesting match in the SB. I know there are many Pats fans on this forum but they have been so dominant for so long that they have turned the post-season NFL into something of a snore, so I will be pulling for Jacksonville simply so I can watch the SB this time. Mind you, I fully expect NE to be waving the trophy again, but I wouldn't be sorry to see the Vikings, Eagles, or Jags take it. -- Al

As an Iggles fan, I'm excited and apprehensive for next week. That is, nothing is ever easy for a Philly franchise. Someone gets injured, several players go into a slump at the same time, or to borrow from Don Corleone, they'll get struck by a bolt of lighting. Heck, there's a one-man stage play devoted to the long, heartbreaking history of Philadelphia's professional sports teams-"The Philly Fan", which I recommend highly, if you're in the area and it's playing somewhere. Even this season-the Eagles start off with Wentz' leadership, and with each passing week, while we cheered, the odds increased that he'd get injured and the train would stop.

They looked better yesterday than they did against the Cowboys. Foles is a good quarterback, and the defense played again like they did for most of the season. So, I'm excited for the game with the Vikings, but it's not going to be easy. It's going to be a fight, and it'd be so cool to see the Iggles win the conference and go on to the Super Bowl, and if it's the Patriots, beat them, against all odds.

Of course, it'd be cool if the Jaguars should upset New England, too. Just to piss 'em off!

Prost!

I've never seen that "sideline zone" D that the Saints were playing before. And I'm guessing I never will again. LOL. The purpose appeared to be to keep the Vikings from throwing to a receiver who could get out of bounds and stop the clock by guarding the sidelines. But guess what? It means there is only one defender between the receiver and the end zone. Terrible coaching all day long. The Saints could have run the ball a few times and run the clock out before kicking the FG instead of chucking passes downfield.

Some boneheaded decisions by Payton yesterday; the first challenge I could kind of see as who knows what a catch is anymore, but the second one was idiotic. Kickers inside of domes can make FG's from 50 plus with ease, so what is the point of that challenge.

And you're spot on; at the end when they were settling for the FG, they still had one time out; if nothing else, run the ball one more time there and either force MN to burn another time out or kill more of the clock, then use the last time out if MN does not.

And that defense they were playing at the end was brutal, what a horrible way to lose a game.

Glad you fellas are pulling for the Iggles, Vikings and Jaguars, that's fine with me.

Thanks.

Yesterday's theme was bad coaching which led to bad execution.

Brad - I disagree - I would rather see legit first string QB's in the postseason and I am not a fan of the teams that are left. BUT I would be much more interested with Wentz, Brees, Ryan or Bradford than watching Brady destroy Backup 1 (Foles), Backup 2 (Keenum) and I don't care what he did against the Steelers, I don't see Bortles putting together another game like he did unless all of sudden he has caught "Joe Flacco Contract Year ITUS". Seriously, he is not an elite or fun QB to watch.

I just can't see the Pats screwing this one up, I think they are going to tie the Steelers for # of SB's this year.
