Nfl season 2017-2018 (1 Viewer)

The draft was a mixed bag for me. I am happy that 2 Stanford guys went in the top 10, with the Niners taking Solomon Thomas at No. 3 and McCaffrey going to the Panthers at No. 8.

Opposite that, I am not too happy about the Niners taking Reuben Foster at No. 31.

49ers had an outstanding draft and Foster is a steal. He only went that low because of his testing. My son was quite happy with the draft so far.

Attempting to defeat or skirt testing is not a small matter, though, is it? Especially if due to banned substances of some kind, whether performance enhancing or recreational drug. Speaks to character, and/or possibly sustainability. It's why teams choose to pass by an otherwise talented player.

Lynch get high marks for this draft. He basically hoodwinked the Bears out of several draft choices when SF had no intention of taking a QB.

Lynch certainly showed some trading and talent evaluation skills in the draft. However, when he first took over as GM during one of his first radio interviews he said that the 49ers needed a cultural change and a big part of that change would be avoiding players with character issues. Foster does not strike me as fitting that mold, if anything he has more potential to be the exact opposite.

For now I will give Lynch the benefit of the doubt, if the Foster pick works out I will admit I was wrong.

"If" they can turn him around, the pick will be a steal.

I heard Jamal Adams, the Jets new safety, interviewed earlier. I was very impressed with his demeanor and character. It was a great pick, in my opinion. Of course, time will tell.

hahaha...
saw Goodell bring Jaworski up to the podium...
I guess to help quell the booing of himself...
but it didn't work...

they still booed him heavy...

oooooh Lord...

our second round pick is Chidobe Awuzie...

good looking CB from Colorado...

I like him...

his nickname is Cheeto...

so now...

so far we have drafted Taco and Cheeto...^&grin

Brad:

I think Adams was the best player and athlete in this draft class. As one commentator said quarterbacks get all the hype and he should get some of that same type of hype as he is a defensive quarterback, he calls plays, reads offensives and adjusts players on the fly.

Randy Gregory has reportedly failed his 7th...
yes you read that right...
his 7th failed drug test since being drafted in the 2nd round in 2015 by the Cowboys...
currently already suspended for this entire upcoming season...
he obviously doesn't care about football...
don't even understand why he would waste his time going to take the urine test if he knows he's whacked out...
so sad...what a waste of talent...what a lost opportunity for him...
he was an extremely talented player at Nebraska...
SHATTERED DREAMS!!!
UNREAL!!!

In a way he reminds me of that rocket scientist, the Mets pitcher Jennry Mejía, who was suspended for 80 games and then came back and almost immediately tested positive again and has now been banned for life.

Brad

There is a reason that they test for drugs etc. at the combine and the teams knowing the roster/financial consequences demanded it more than the NFL. If a franchise takes a chance on a player who tests positive and is suspended they are on the hook. Gregory tested positive at the combine and has continually failed NFL drug tests. The Cowboys were aware of his proclivities and took the chance and it did not work out.

While I wish Gregory well, the Cowboys have no one to blame but themselves.

Just reading up on some NFL news, rumor has been spreading a Kappynick trip to Baltimore might be in the works?? Flacco has a bum back for a week or so, it wouldn't surprise me to see Harbaugh bring Cappy to town even if it's just to have another arm in camp..but on the other hand Harbaugh talked today about how much he likes him...we'll see.

I had ESPN on in the background the other day and they did a quick report on the Patriots. Apparently there was a fight at practice and the players involved were removed from the field as Belichick has a zero tolerance policy for fighting at practices.

It got me wondering why and I found out his reasoning is partly based on the fact that if you can't keep your cool against your teammates, chances are you won't be able to against your opponents. Belichick is more than a football genius, he also knows how to employ common sense.

I'd hate to see this come to pass. It won't be much fun rooting against the home teams quarterback. -- Al

I just don't know when entertainers such as pro athletes, musicians and actors/actresses are going to learn that when they open their mouths and speak on a subject/pull a stunt like he did, they are going to endear themselves to half the people and piss off the other half.

Or more to the point, it's going to impact them where it hurts the most; their bank accounts.

He's an idiot, I wouldn't want a moron like that on my team.

Could not agree more, he is a complete idiot and imo is very unpatriotic. In a way, I hope the ravens get him, so the Steelers have a chance to smack him square in da mouth!

Not Happening..owner Steve Biscotti said in an open interview with media, fans that he does not see any future where Cappydick would help the Ravens win in 2017. end of story, Biscotti is about as a strait shooter as they come when it comes to NFL owners, he rarely speaks or gives interviews but a few times a year, when he does make a statement or adds his opinion to certain topics he sticks to his word.

And he can't go to Miami (who may have lost Tannehill for the season) as they have a huge Cuban community. He was dumb enough to praise Fidel Castro and wore a Castro t-shirt last year.

Why Tannehill did not have surgery at the end of the season last year is beyond me, pretty foolish.

The Dolphins were the only legit threat to the Patriots in the division, by legit I mean 10-6 if they are lucky, but if he's done, more like 6-10.

I went to Patriots camp with my best friends youngest son this week as my friend works during the week while I sell toy soldiers...........:wink2:.......and his weekends are pretty booked, his son loves the Patriots. I got him Brandon Cooks autograph.

Some observations;
Brady is a rock star, the place went bananas when he ran onto the field.
Gronkowski is a man among boys, really a shame that he is so injury prone, he's a beast. Imagine being a safety and having him catch a pass down the seam and you're the guy trying to tackle him, forget it.
Cooks is fast and I mean F-A-S-T
Their running backs are quite a group, Gillespee is fast too, the kid they got from the Bengals is something else, two terrific signings.
David Harris is a monster in the middle, I think he'll be the defensive captain this year, he'll wear the green dot.
The two rookie defensive ends they drafted are HUGE, fast too, Wise has some unique spin and swim moves.
Gillmore and Butler are two shut down corners, they both looked great.

This team is simply loaded; injuries are always the X factor, but I cannot envision a scenario where if they are healthy they are not back into the AFCCG for the 8th strait season. They have a tough schedule; the AFC West, the NFC South, they're going to have to earn their way in this year. The 19-0 talk is idiotic; I'm thinking 13-3, maybe 12-4, 14-2 would be ideal, but I think 13-3 or 12-4 will get them the #1 seed.

This has been going on since 2001, just unbelievable. If they manage to win another Super Bowl the next couple of seasons, IMO they are back to back the team of the decade for the 2001-2010 and 2011-2019; in the free agency era, that is quite an achievement.

My friends son is 16 years old; he's never seen a losing season. The worst record they've had during his short stay on the planet is 9-7. They've been in the playoffs 14 of the 16 years he's been alive. When I told him how bad they used to be, he just laughed.

Unreal.

If it all comes crashing down tomorrow, it still was one Hell of a ride, a sports fans dream.
