I,m not complaining about the system, you have to have something, but in reality the best team doesn,t always win. And no I don,t have a better idea.
I will say this about the Hawks, when they play at home I never miss the singing of the national anthem. That is a real treat.

Gary:

Apologies, I was not singling you out. Heck, when the playoffs began I was upset that the Sharks had to play the Kings in the first round. They had 111 points and they had to play a team with 100 points. It is an imperfect system to say the least.

I am not a Hawks guy, but boy are they good.

Being a long suffering Hawks fan , I don't think arrogance is the correct description . More like pride and confidence after a long 40 year drought .
2 cups in 3 years and well on the way to another is starting to look like a dynasty . not easy in the age of the salary cap

Go Hawks !

The Kings finished in the 8th and last playoff spot a couple years ago when they won the cup. They also had the lowest average goals per game of any team that season. So I'm not going to complain about the Rangers. Plus the Kings might be able to beat them if they get past Chicago! Of all the teams left, I'm pulling for anyone except the Hawks. They seem to have a large, arrogant fan base similar to the Pens.

In this age of parity that is true in any sport. Exhibit A would be the Giants beating the Patriots in both of their title years. Closer to home, in 2006 the Cardinals weren't the best team but they beat the Mets in the NLCS.

Things aren't like they used to be where there were few playoff teams and usually the best team won. It's too much of a crapshoot.

No one could have supposed that the Penguins or Bruins wouldn't have been in the Final but here we are, with the Rangers only two games away from going.

For the most part the past 10 years or so, sports has become not the best team winning but whoever gets hot/gets lucky breaks at the right time.

I can name a dozen times minimum a team that had zero business winning a championship pulled one out of their rear ends by going on a run in the playoffs.

In sports like baseball, hockey and basketball it's tough as the playoffs are a grind, whereas in football, all you need is to get hot/lucky at for three games.

All of professional sports are nothing but watered down versions of their former selves.

But that's the way the leagues and the owners want it; more teams in it/having a shot means more fans in more cities stay interested longer.

In hockey, if you want to make it tough, instead of a 2, 2, 1, 1, 1 format, how about home team gets the first three games at home, road team gets two, then the home team gets the last two; that way, if an underdog wins, they really, really deserve it

If Montreal goes down (and that seem likely now), that means the top four seeded teams in both the east and west are gone before the finals even start. Hockey is a grind. It also takes some breaks. Boston was maybe one inch from tying game seven. If they get that one, maybe they win it all. Big game tonight. The Kings need this one bad. I can't see them coming back from 2-0 to the Hawks. They are too good and hard to beat at home. The Kings should also be rested for this one.

Well this year the NBA got number 1 versus number 2 in both the east and the west finals. While the most recent Superbowl featured the two teams tied with the best regular season record of 13-3.

Great win by the Kings last night. They appeared to be dead in the water late in the second period. Down 2-0, outplayed, and against a team that hasn't lost a game at home in the playoffs. Then they suddenly catch fire and score 5 in the 3rd period. Win or lose the Kings have been tenacious in these playoffs. I would give most of the credit to Sutter. He's been a great coach.

In the NBA Western Finals, there is a huge disparity between number 1 Spurs and 2 Thunder (who are missing Ibaka, a big loss).

Brad:

I am not going to try and hijack the tread but without Ibaka the Thunder would have been a 3-4 seed and they would have lost to the Clippers. Injuries can change everything.

Even with some lower seeds in it I have enjoyed the Cup playoffs so far. I am interested in seeing what Montreal does without Price.

Huge win for the Kings last night. They are not going to win too many in Chicago so they need these home games. They came out like Godzilla stomping on Tokyo. Up 4-0 in the second period. Crawford settled down and made some great saves or this one could have been real ugly. The Hawks are a much different team on the road. They look very average on D. The Kings were the lowest scoring team to make the playoffs this year. Now they are the highest scoring team in the playoffs. The PP is on fire even though they have gotten next to nothing from their main scoring line of Kopitar, Brown and Gaborik. No team in NHL history has ever made it to the Finals after playing 14 games in the first two rounds. Both the Rangers and Kings played 14 in the first two rounds this year.

Unless the Kings and Rangers pull a Penguin, it looks the Stanley Cup Final will be a coast war. Cautiously optimistic.

Tonight should be interesting in Montreal. I see it coming back to MSG but hope not.

You know the NHL top dogs are hopeing for a LA, NY series.
Is that Drew Daughty the best or what? Seems he is on the ice for all 60 minutes.
LA hasn,t won this yet, don,t count Towes or Kane out.

Doughty has played out of his mind. He's been the best player on the ice. It's been a very strange series though. The big scorers like Kane, Kopitar, and Gaborik haven't done much. Jake Muzzin - who had five goals all season - has five in the playoffs. The young guys on the Kings have done most of the damage. Muzzin, Toffoli and Pearson have played outstanding hockey. They are scoring and playing outstanding D. A lot of confidence at this point. Chicago can get right back in this if they win at home. They can easily steal a game in LA and even this series. So I'm not counting my chickens just yet.

What a waste of 4 goals:mad:..Michael

Agreed. Wonder if Moore will be facing a suspension for that hit on Wiese.

I think it's safe to say the Rangers want no part of a game seven in Montreal. That place was a madhouse. Better take care of business in the next game.

That game had a bad taste from the get go when Kreider gets called for the penalty thirty or so seconds into the match. You just had a feeling it wasn't going to be their day.

The Kings had a golden chance to end this series last night. Even though they lost in double OT they have to be going home knowing they are in good shape. Not many teams are going to take 4 straight from Chicago including two on the road. They got down 2-0 and 3-1 early in the game. The refs spotted Chicago a PP on a phantom penalty in the first minute, but the Kings looked awful. They came back though and took the lead into 3rd period but then couldn't finish. Quick had a terrible game. He left a ton of rebounds in front of the net. Crawford wasn't much better. He is the second worst goalie that I have seen next to Fleury. It's been a strange series with guys like Kopitar and Kane scoring no goals in a high scoring series. High scoring games are mostly Chicago's style but the Kings have mostly beaten them at their own game. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Kings tighten things up in the next game. Quick usually plays well after a disappointing game.

Stanley Cup Finals, here we come! ^&cool

That's right, Mr. Rekp, not the Penguins, but the Ramgers! :wink2:
