NHL Playoffs (2 Viewers)

I'm not a hockey fan but I do keep tabs on the annual SS Titanic the Caps pull every playoff season. The hand-wringing and angst amongst the faithful is as regular as a swiss watch. Oh yes, it's panic time in DC, again. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I wouldn't give up the ship just yet. Disappointing to lose two at home but they are in decent shape because they took two in Tampa. The law of averages has a quandary. Does Tampa win three in a row against a good Caps team (unlikely) or do the Caps win three in a row in Tampa (unlikely as well)? Win or lose the game last night was fun to watch. A lot of action.

Yes, the Tampa goalie stole that one. At one point it was tied 2-2 and the Caps had something like 30 shots on goal to 8. These Caps aren't playing scared though like prior teams. They have responded every time things got tight.

This is part of the reason as to why I never became a huge hockey fan, learned at a young age (10 to be exact) when the 1971 Bruins, who set all sorts of scoring records that year, were stoned in the Conference finals by that big oaf Ken Dryden with that horrible Freddie Kruger mask, he single handedly won that series for Montreal.

That's the rub with hockey, one player can decide a game/series. The Capitals bombarded the Devil Rays with shots last night, at one point as Doug mentioned they were outshooting the Devil Rays three to one but the game was tied.

And yes, I get it, the goalie is a player like anyone and has one job, to stop the puck, but it's maddening to see a guy stand on his head and rob a team when his team is getting totally outplayed everywhere but on the scoreboard.

We'll see what the Capitals are made of in game 5....................

George:

I clearly understand your point of view, but the one thing that makes the Stanley Cup playoffs so great for me is the unpredictability of it all and most of that can be chalked up to goalies. It might be the only sport where any team that makes the playoffs has a legit chance of winning it all. Compare that to the NBA where the outcome is all but pre-determined. At the start of that season 99% of fans had the final four teams as Golden State, Houston, Boston and Cleveland and 110% of fans have the Warriors winning it all.

Understood, a hot goalie is the X factor in lot of these SC runs by mediocre teams that catch lightning in a bottle, it does add to the unpredictability of it for sure.

And yes, basketball has zero drama, it's been that way for a long time.

I like to watch excellence, which is why I'm good with the Warriors winning it again, dynasties in sports are pretty cool actually................as long as it's not the MFY's.

I thought the MFY's had changed to "The Little Engine That Could"?

That was before they traded a used rosin bag, a case of broken bats and a box of used baseballs for Stanton.

Gonna be great when they dump Sherman Klump's contract at the end of the year and then sign Machado and Harper.

Takes all day to start a game in Vegas.

I think that is the way they do everything in Vegas.

My wife and I were eating at Prime one night and she asked for Tabasco Sauce. The waiter came over a minute later and apologized for the delay as it was being "prepared". Sure enough, about 3 minutes later they delivered the tiniest bottle of Tabasco I had ever seen, it came on a silver platter, doily and all! Now if they had simply brought the bottle over and handed it to my wife it probably would have taken 10 seconds.

The choking sound coming out of DC is deafening. Sure as death and taxes... :rolleyes2: -- Al

They scored late but it wasn't enough, they lost 3-2 and are now down 3-2.

If they lose and the Jets lose which sure as **** looks like the case barring two major collapses, I'm out.........................

The Caps started tight and got in a 3-0 hole. After that they dominated the game but not enough puck luck. Can't see them losing four in row to Tampa though. I think this one is going seven. Holtby needs to play a little better and the Caps just need one or two more of those 40 shots per game they are getting to find the twine.

GO VEGAS! Fluery back to the finals, he individually has a chance to Three Peat and 4th Cup! That is pretty cool. I am "ALL IN" on Vegas. I know that is a terrible pun.

Vegas is now 12-3 in the playoffs including four straight over a very good Winnipeg team. They look unstoppable now. Fluery has been the best goal tender by a long margin. They are also going to be the more rested team in the finals. If they get the Caps, then they also have home ice.

So much for the old saying defense wins championships; the LVGK defense is not very good, a bunch of #3's and #4's they grabbed in the expansion draft, but as you said, they look unstoppable.

The Penguins without Letang last year sucked defensively too, but they won a cup.

I guess all you need is a guy between the pipes who stands on his head.

Wonderful.

As far as the ECF, it's to game 7, which means the Capitals fans are either going to feel the thrill of victory and advance to the SCF or suffer the agony of defeat and yet another nut punch in a long line of nut punches......................

That was an intense and well-played game. One of the best of the year. The refs let them play and the Caps put the wood to Tampa. Ovechkin was like a cruise missile looking for targets. Wilson was destroying guys. Holtby played well. I hope they can sustain that energy for game seven but that's tough to do on the road. The first goal in game seven will be huge.

Congrats to the Capitals, total domination the last two games down 3-2, back to back shut outs by Holtby.

He's on fire right now, keep it going into the finals.

Win it for Ovechkin, win it for that long suffering fan base.

My truce with the Caps is over. LETS GO VEGAS! Gotta root for Fleury, chance for individual 3 peat, 4 cups and a Cinderella season, what more could you want! Yes I am jumping on this bandwagon, shamelessly.

And I would like to see Wilson get his fat *** pancaked and I think there is a guy on Vegas who is just the right guy to do it, forgot his name, but they have a hitter unless I totally am confusing with another team.
