NHL Playoffs (1 Viewer)

Hey Tom don't know if you knew this but with the NHL expansion in 1967 Baltimore was on track to get a team, the Blues. But the guy in St Louis Sid Solomon bought The Arena which was owned by Chicago's owner Bill Wirtz. So unloading the Arena Wirtz used his influence to get the expansion team to St Louis and Baltimore was left empty handed.
As for murders we can't leave out Chicago.

This move was designed clearly to torture you for the past 51 years vs Al and Sammy.................

But George how many years did you have to wait to win the world series? At least in my life time the Cardinals won more than their fare share. And even the Rams in their short time here won the super bowel and probably a second if your team had not cheated;)

I'm just messing with you Gary, ie, sometimes be careful what you wish for, maybe Baltimore would have been better off with the Blues..............;).

Me personally, I waited 43 years for the RS to win it all.

The Blues; they came into the league in 1968 was it when the league expanded from 6 to 12?

Then some genius decided "Let's put the original 6 in one conference, the 6 expansion teams in the other and have the winners play each other."

Brilliant, the result was the Blues got to the SC final three years in a row.

Where they got slaughtered by a combined 12-0, ie, three sweeps by Montreal twice and then the Bruins.

They had enough of that nonsense so in 1971, they mixed the teams up and gee whiz dude, that's the last time the Blues got to the SC finals.

The Red Sox got to the WS three times and the ALCS another two times before they finally won it in 2004.

Since 1970, the Blues haven't been to the SC finals.

Just curious, have they been to the conference finals in the past 48 years, I can't recall

Hey, look at it this way; when they finally do win it, you'll be thrilled beyond belief.

As far as the Patriots cheating; ah well, whatever helps folks sleep at night...............................

I haven't seen many of the VGK games this year so I stayed up late to watch game 3 of the Kings and Knights. Needless to say I wish I had tuned into more of their games throughout the year. What a great 3rd period. Really wish I had watched this series from the beginning. Down 3 games I don't think the Kings will be making a come back.

You can't win if you can't score. The Kings are snakebit in this series. Three goals in three games including a double OT game. Lots of shots but Fleury brought some of that Pittsburgh playoff moxie to Vegas. Tough road for Vegas though. Probably getting the Sharks next and then Nashville.

And they lost in OT.

Again.

To a team from Columbus.

Smoltzie was not the answer.

The Caps may be the biggest playoff choke team in the history of sports. Ovechkin has never even made it to the eastern conference finals. I think Grubauer is playing because Holtby was injured. He played pretty well down the stretch and they stuck with him in the playoffs. It's not working and they are deep shinola. I can still see the Caps winning this series but it likely goes seven if they do which means Crosby and company will be waiting and rested.

Oh joy.

So the "LET'S GO PENS!!" get the Flyers and either Columbus or a cooked Capitals team and the Bruins get Toronto and Tampa.

Yeah, the playoff format is a tire fire and needs to be changed.

Not them again in the conference finals.

Now I sound like a football fan complaining about the Patriots.

But I mean it; please, not them.

George,

Don't get too worried yet. Pens have to get past the flyers and then most likely the Caps. Pens are loaded, but again, odds start catching up. I am just happy they are tormenting you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding. Crosby is good, when healthy he is a lot of fun to watch. How about Fleury in Vegas??? Holy Smokes!

The Maple Leafs fans look like they go into a religious frenzy whenever they score a goal. Pretty intimidating to play there and places like Nashville and Vegas. The roar is so loud I'm having trouble hearing the commentators during the game (which is often no great loss). Really surprised that the Sharks are handling the Ducks so easily, Colorado is playing Nashville close, and the even that the hapless Caps can't buy a win. Some nasty old school hockey being played in these series which is fun to watch. The media was in a swoon about some player on the Devils threatening to kill one of the Tampa players. They will probably launch a congressional investigation.

"The Maple Leafs fans look like they go into a religious frenzy whenever they score a goal."

Last night was a classic example of the home crowd influencing the referees into making a call; a Bruin shot the puck off the glass and it went up into the crowd, all the Maple Laugh players pointed into the crowd and as if on cue, the crowd went nuts screaming for a penalty.

The refs to their credit got together in a huddle to make the right call;

"So did anyone see the puck hit the glass.................yeah I did, but I want to get out of this building alive, so @#$% it, plus the league wants the Maple Laughs to hang around, the entire city of Toronto would be on suicide watch if they go down 0-3, so let's call a penalty................"

Power play and .06 seconds later, the Maple Laughs scored the go ahead goal.

If they use replay to determine goals and offsides, then why not use it here, they would have clearly seen the puck hit the glass before going into the crowd.

Morons.

After watching the Sharks go up 3-0 on the Ducks I can't tell if San Jose is that good or Anaheim is that bad? The Sharks are outscoring them 14-3 and even the 3-2 game didn't seem close.

So much for my Kings. That was quick. They scored three goals in the entire series. I wonder if they broke a record for fewest goals in a four game series? All close games but they couldn't get anything past Fleury. Weird series as it went exactly like the Kings would have hoped with a low scoring, physical series. But they couldn't even manage the one or two goals per game that would have flipped the series. Oh well, now I'm pulling for Nashville.

"Oh well, now I'm pulling for Nashville."

Wouldn't it be great for the sport if two hockey blue bloods like Nashville and Columbus met in the finals, talk about hockey royalty, two original 32 teams and all.

The only issue would be where would you park all those covered wagons?

Smoltzie is back standing on his head for the Capitals, they won a must win game in double OT last night, now down 2-1, they still need to win the next game or IMO they are toast.

It's all up to Smoltzie now.

The Caps have blown leads in every game. They got very lucky last night in double OT with a fluke goal. It's hard to figure why they struggle so mightily in the playoffs but they look tight. You can see it on every face - choke time. Nashville-Vegas would be a wild western conference finals with the fans going nuts and both teams playing fast.

1st Post!

The State of Hockey will be done real quick with the loss of the "Golden Children" Ryan Suter and Zach Parise. Winnipeg is built for a deep run and they will give Pekka and the Preds a run for their money in the West. How about that Las Vegas team though?!

I haven't seen too many Winnipeg games but the Preds look deep and nearly impossible to beat at home. Colorado is giving them a contest though. Rinne has always been suspect on the road. He is going to have to step it up if they want to win the Cup. Vegas is a mystery. They were a high scoring team but only managed seven goals in the sweep against the Kings. I'm not sure if that is good news or bad news. Does it mean they are a better defensive team or worse offensive team than in the regular season? Fleury played out of his mind. If he can keep that up, then they will be tough to beat especially if they get any of their offense going.

All this talk about Nashville, Vegas and Winnipeg and no mention of San Jose? They have scored twice as many goals as the Golden Knights in one less game. They have only given up 3 goals in 3 games while Nashville has given up 11 and Winnipeg has a +2 goal differential to San Jose's 11.

Their games don't start until about 10:30 pm here in the east. I doubt anyone has seen them play. They really had the Ducks number but the environment in the Vegas and Nashville is off the charts. Hard places to win and those teams have home ice. The Sharks are playing well though.

The Vegas series should be great. Goals could be at a premium with the way both goalies are playing.
