Absolutely agree Louis. Thousands of decent people died that day without a choice of burial of their choice, why should he get it.

For some reason today I can't stop that Disney tune going round in my head ' darling it's better where it is wetter under de sea' !

I found out last night when Ray posted the earlier thread on the subject. I started watching the news and saw the President's announcement live. The best, however, was as I flipped through the channels from station to station looking for more coverage, and passed ESPN. Sunday night baseball was on, the NY Mets vs the Philadelphia Phillies (two teams and fan bases that hate each other alomost as much as Yankees and Red Sox fans) and the crowd was standing and chanting "USA!" I stopped and just listened to them for about 10 minutes. It was just awesome.

The only thing I am a bit angry about is the announcement that they buried him at sea (which is smart - no chance to turn his body into a shrine) but in accord with Muslim customs. My friend George's little brother's body was never recovered from the ruins of the Towers. They couldn't bury him in accord with Greek Orthadox customs. They should have defiled Bin Laden's filthy corpse and then dumped it into the sea, so he could never rest in piece.

As we all know...

the Dow Jones is greatly influenced by world wide events...

I was hoping for a 200-300 point spike today and am a little surprised the market is only up 35 points...

Glad that he's gone.... but, here we go- no body, no proof of his death. Hope that the CIA has him somewhere, torturing the crap out of him for info on all his slimy henchmen.. IMO

It will be interesting to find out what they found in that house. Computers, writings etc. I'm surprised they made the announcement so quickly instead of following up on any new information before the word got out. Everyone will go to ground now.

If Osama is denied a proper Muslim burial...

he will be denied entrance to Paradise and the 72 brown eyed virgins...

Islamic Terrorists are brainwashed and motivated to carry out Fidayeen activities with the Koranic assurance that they would enjoy everlasting sex with 72 black eyed virgins with wine and flowing honey etc. once they reach paradise, on sacrificing their lives for Islam.

The Quran also says any contact with pig-skin, meat or blood would prevent the journey to paradise and they would go to hell fire.

So, the Russians, started burying the dead Chechnya terrorists with a piece of pigskin especially after Beslan massacre. The Israelis were already doing it to deter the suicide bombers.

so.....................let's have a BBQ with lots of spareribs before the funeral...

Brad and Mike,

Couldn't agree more. Convincing these religious fanatics that we are going to bury them in a way that prevents them from getting their virgins in paradise would go a long way towards deterring their insanity.

One thing that is clear is the Pakistani government has known about his location for some time. They not only failed to cooperate, but lied to the US government and even aided Bin Laden. You don't build a million dollar compound in the heart of a Pakistani city near a military complex without someone knowing what's going on. That's a criminal act for which they should be held accountable. Of course they never will since the US has never had the backbone to force the issue or this would have been a done deal years ago.

burying him in the manner they have allows our side to show they hold the moral and decent ground. Treating his body in some of the ways mentioned on here is just playing into the hands of the fundamentalists etc that will, and are, still looking for a way to attack at the US and, as a result all western cities and people.

Far more potent is his second in command so, resume business and get him rather than great two minute soundbites IMO

Mitch

Apologies for errors in the initial details, r.e. CIA versus Seal Team 6. Events obviously breaking quickly. BRAVO ZULU (Well Done) to Team 6 for a magnificently planned and executed mission. True professionalism.

As I understand it "in accord with Muslim customs" simply means he was buried within 24 hours of his death. A good excuse to be rid of the body which would become a source of backlash. Interesting that some of the executed Nazi leaders or their ashes were dumped in the sea to avoid any monuments - like Eichmann.

Mitch,

While I certainly respect your desire to ensure the United States and the Allies continue to hold the moral highground, I have to respectfully disagree.

First of all, having been a block from ground zero when the second plane hit, and having watched people leap from the burning towers to their deaths, and heard the sound of their bodies hitting the plaza, and witnessing the two towers fall, we could have torchered him to death on live television and still held the moral highground.

Second of all, I am more concerned with terrifying the terrorists and potential terrorists than convincing them that we hold the moral highground. The Russians have a much better record of deterring terrosists than we do. When I was a little kid, I remember terrorists highjacking an aeroflot jet. The Russians identified them, and threatened to kill their families if the jet wasn't released. The jet was released. Now they are burying dead muslim terrorists with pigskin to ensure that the religious fanatic terrorists know that their suicide bombers can't get to paradise. To me, it seems more likely that a religious fanatic might be deterred from becoming a suicide bomber if he knew we would ensure he could never get to paradise. Plus, I am sure that Al Queda will be announcing that Bin Laden is a martyr who is sitting in paradise, something I would love to be able to counter with a film of his body, wrapped in pigskin, being dumped into the ocean.

We seem to share some of the same thoughts about this event:

It some closure for the victims, but it doesn't mean the end of Islamo-fascism, Islamism or Jihadism (whatever term we choose to use). The terrorists are organized more loosely than any one state or combination of states. It's more like the Mafia than the Axis, in other words.

Pakistan is certainly riddled with support for these people, with heavy concentration of sympathizers in its security service. There's a very good account of this in "Shadow Warriors", for example. This tension between fanatics and those who wanted a secular state, though, goes back to the founding of the country itself, if I'm not mistaken. And it only highlights the difficulties of dealing with this problem - whom to trust, whom not to trust, and how do you deal with states who are officially allies, but whose citizens and organizations support or participate in the attacks.

Prost!
Brad

It all comes around.

Best way to deal with a terrorist........terrorize him!

Poof.......he's gone!

Louis...graphic...but well put...I concur..."moral grounds"...not an issue with me...let's discourage this type of activity with any means possible...this may be useful against fanatis...not much else is...

God bless the door kickers and shooters of SEAL Team Six!

I think the burial at sea "according to Muslim" rqts is a cover. We just wanted to get rid of the body so we don't have yrs of legal battles over the remains and people making a martyr of the grave site.

Chris

Finally justice for the outrage against our American friends, many congratulations.

Rob

There were Canadians killed at the 9/11 and almost 200 soldiers killed in afghanistan. May he burn in hell and may all the promised virgins be goats - and ugly ones at that.

I think that morals during war have already been discused on this forum, concerning, the atom bomb, giant flame throwers etc. I seem to remember that the general agreement was that in war you do what you need to do to protect your own people first. That being said, and please don't think I'm a bad person for this but, I couldn't give a fly @@@@ what happens to his body. He was scum that declared war on innocents, therefore good riddance to him. Now let's move on to the rest. I don't care what it takes.

Martin

I agree 100%, Louis. My thought has always been that should we ever get him, we should wrap his body in a pig's skin and bury it head first and facing away from Mecca. That goes for any other jihadis whose bodies we can collect.

This morning, I also thought to add, encase the body in a concrete block and add some nuclear or toxic waste, too, just to keep anyone from getting close.

Prost!
Brad

Or just chop him up and feed him to pigs.

Yes and many British too, however for the sake of brevity I went with the people who sufferd more as a whole.

I read there was no phone or internet at the compound. So there may not have been much data. Besides, the SEALs probably only had a short time till the 3 regiments of the Pakistani army nearby came to his rescue.

Today my thoughts are with those who died on that terrible day almost ten years ago. Those who had to jump to their deaths, those burned alive in aircraft fuel, those that lost loved ones and never had the chance to say goodbye. I don't give a flying toss what happened to Bin Laden, I really don't.

Along with all the other images every one of us will never forget from that day, one sticks in my mind. Later in the day in whichever country it was, Bin Ladens supporters were dancing joyfully in the streets and celebrating the murder of around three thousand people as if it were a family wedding. This morning I awoke to similar scenes in New York and outside the White house and with a smile I remembered that line from I don't know where;

' Let justice flow down like waters'

God Bless the relatives of those killed on that day, and god bless our American Allies.
