So if a rich Russian former communist buys your club and opens his check book then you can win a lot of titles. Real and Barcelona also pay big cash but Spain are like England. Always full of promise but generally fail to deliver.
The point is that if you just buy what you need you have a very strong club system but a weak national team.
If you have to find and nurture local talent like a club is supposed to do then you have a strong national team.

I just get tired of a ll the hype around England. Thank goodness I don't have satellite anymore so I will be spared the endless soul searching ,wailing gnashing of teeth and renting of garments that will be on BBC and Sky all next month.
I think Brazil vs Argentina in the final.

But how is the Bundesliga built? Who are the 'star' players of Bayern? Ribery, Robben, van Buyten, Demichelis...the level of the Bundesliga is pretty weak.

What I agree is that Germany, like Switzerland and unlike England and Italy have understood that they have to built on and develop their U-teams.

Yes there was a lot of hype around England, probably most of it around how people wanted to team to be and not how the team was in reality. But be lucky not to live next to Germany as their TV channels are zillion times worse.

I see the same final than you.

Brett - I may be joining Ana Donzino of Beau Geste & Honour Bound on the Argentina bandwagon (though she says it's been hard to keep people focused on work down there!).

Is something that North Americans cannot understanding...Futebol is not a Sport..

Two games today and two outrageously bad calls that could have helped turn the games and that could have been prevented with a little modern technology (and common sense). I like the WC but don't think I will become any kind of soccer fan unless FIFA can get off it's hidebound butt and do something about correcting horrendous calls. Why allow this kind of crap to go on when there is the ability to halt it? Right is right and wrong is wrong and ignoring mistakes and allowing them to continue is WRONG. Thw world's biggest stage for soccer and FIFA evidently doesn't care.-- Al

Paulo,

So you say that Germany are the dominating team in this WC, having seen their 4 games? Wouw. And Podolski and Klose are world class players? Podolski scored 3 goals in Cologne this year and Klose was 3rd forward at Bayern Munich! Oh yes, we really disagree here. Let's see what Ozil and Muller become, but I wouldn't see either of them at ManU for example.

Terry, I agree that they either have to put 2 additional refs in the 16-m area or make use of video technology...

I am not saying they are the dominating team, there is always Brazil, Argentina possibly Spain (hope not, my Portugal are going to play them next...) and possibly some surprise. What I say is that they are not an average team. About Podolski and Klose, yes I know they haven't performed for their clubs, but they have performed at the World Cups, when it matters the most, at the most important stage of all, not just on this one but also on the previous, and for Klose also in 2002. To me that speaks volumes about their class, and it's easy to see why, just watch them play, they are fluid, simple, fast, effective, poetry in motion I'd say, especially with that Podolski left foot. These too must have always slept with a ball glued to their feet:rolleyes:.
On ManU, I think Ozil would be really helpful with their midfield (Scholes is going, going, gone...), although it would surely be an expensive deal... But Mr. Ferguson is of course the one who knows:D. I agree it's early in their career but I am sure many people are ready to invest on him or Muller. One thing is for sure, they can't play kick and rush (but fortunately that's not ManU's style;).

I dont´t think that the second Goal change much. And it don´t change something to think about what could be.....or what couldn´t be......

I think that the most Germans think about the goal, that this was the revenge for the Wempley goal............after 44 Years.

And not the single player is importan and where he play......the team is important......

Germany don´t dominat the WC......but they play 2 good games.......and ist fun to look this Game. For me the Favourits for the Title are Brazil, Portugal and Spain (okay.....netherland playe good games too.).....but i hope it will be an Underdog how Ghana. ;)

Again........sry for the english.....i hope i take nearly the correct words........ :D

Yes, but that 3rd goal in 1966 was valid, it's now proved beyond any doubt. In fact a close look at the original replay can tell you that, although it was a much closer call than the one today! Today the ball went deep inside, for God's sake! That said, congrats Germany, I very much like your young team although I was rooting for England.
Also I am Portuguese but I believe you are overrating Portugal, yes our defence is performing fine (and we'll need it against Spain) but apart from Ronaldo I think we lack attacking punch as usually. Our midfield is talented as usual but sooner or later you need goals in this sport (7 against North Korea is OK but opposition like that is now gone).

I'm sure all you brits aren't happy about germany's win.
I see it as payback for WW2. :D

You could be correct, the acting performances and amatuerish rule enforcement methods seems to place it more in the category of Entertainment, like Wrestling.

HOOOOO Yes, A lot of dramatization, it is like a Greek Tragedy, special if you look at the Latin Players...

True, some of the Latin players such as those from Argentina and Brazil are experienced thespians but surely Rooney's performance(s) in the match against Germany deserved some recognition for his acting - if not a yellow card ;)

The jokes have started doing the rounds, here are two I received this morning

Fabio Capello was wheeling his shopping trolley across the supermarket car
park when he noticed an old lady struggling with her bags of shopping. He
stopped and asked, "Can you manage dear?" To which the old lady replied,
"No way. You got yourself into this mess, don't ask me to sort it
out..."

Osama bin Laden has just released a new TV message to prove he is still
alive. He said that the England Team performance on Sunday was completely
awful. British intelligence have dismissed the claim, stating that the
message could have been recorded anytime in the last 44 years.

Cheers

Martyn:)

Brazil 2-0. That was a beautiful header. Just under the bar and just over the goalie. Second goal was a nice one, also. Brazil looks real tough at this point.-- Al

Congratulations to Brazil for winning 3-0. It was a good game. Now we find out how good the Netherlands are. -- Al

Ihr English wird immer besser ;)

Peter (TF) mentioned supporting Argentina.
My two reasons for not supporting are Maradona and The Falklands.
Looks like would have to go for Brazil or Holland.
