Sudan Campaigns 1880 - 1898 (1 Viewer)

Very cool Martyn of particular interest are the 2 camels transporting the pontoon. I think that would be do-able by WB or JJD.

Great pictures, Martyn...thank you ...a canoe raft looks great I am gonna commission its model for my collection...
However a raft should be app. 30+ feet long as per this picture, I doubt that two camels could carry it: the picture with a raft and the camels do not look like to be in scale :)... Camel head and body length: 10-12 feet. Height of humps: up to 9 feet, they would need two pairs of camels at least.

Glad you liked the pictures Scott and Al.

I never realised there were so many different types of craft, large and small, used in the ill fated Nile Expedition

Cheers

Here's an interesting one the 10th hussars destroying equipment originaly captured from the Egyptians. On the left is 1000 remington rifles, on the right what looks like one of the captured gatling guns! Also notice that the hussars are armed with what is described as "improvised lances" in other words devish spears.:D

Martin

P.S a dervish marching band would be interesting

Love the pictures Martyn...

the huge head on that spear...while most people think the scale is wrong...

it is not...

when I first saw the Jenkins Mahdist's spear heads...I thought they were way too big...

after doing research on them...

I found out that they were actually HUGE in real life...

these are absolutely monstrous spear heads...

when I talked to John Jenkins about them...

he told me he actually scaled his down from their real size as he even thought they were too big...

but the fact is...they are gigantic in size...resembling a giant yard shovel honed to a point...

Glad you like them Michael, I had been after this Trophy set for a while.

Thank you for the comparison pictures, those spears sure would have caused a very nasty, painful wound
