Things that annoy me (3 Viewers)

What bothers me about them is when they call for donations.Last year I was out on disability and when they call you tell them money is tight as I hadn't gotten my disability money and they keep asking you if you could still donate. Then a couple of days later they call again. They don't know what no means.

Pretty sure none of those people when they were little kids would think to themselves "When I grow up, I want to be a telemarketer, cold call people who are totally uninterested in what I am peddling and are going to swear at me, berate me and hang up on me, can't wait."

I'm very sympathetic to them, am very polite, I have to answer every call as you never know who it is, I cut them short pretty quickly and am not rude about it.

Poor bastards.

Part of me thinks that way, but even when you go the polite route, you usually are met with rudeness. When that tended to be the trend, it was on like Donkey Kong for me. Like I said, I don't waste my time nor really give 2 cents in any way, but, in all seriousness, I have found it to be therapeutic to screw with them over the years during stressful times, they are the perfect outlet. Call me mean, call me whatever, I have always been a firm believer in you choose your own fate in this free country and I don't buy into the hogwash that people are stuck.

For example, warehouse jobs with no pre skill required are being bid out right now between 19 - 26/hr in most parts of the Country. You read that correctly, I have a lot of distro projects and this is the labor market my clients are facing thanks to likes of Amazon. SO, a telemarketer or watching a conveyor belt........................................

There is something called Nomorobo that is free for landline phones that will block unwanted calls. I believe if you are a Comcast customer that gets phone service through them, you can request it for free. Probably the same for other cable customers.

Step 3 of 3: Complete Your Registration
[h=3]Looks like you need to contact your provider![/h]Unfortunately, AT&T (Traditional Landline) doesn't support Nomorobo yet.

Please call the customer service number below and ask that they add Nomorobo to their service. The more people that call them, the better.

Doug...I looked into...went to their website and got to step 3...said AT&T does not work with them...thanks though...

Doug...
thanks again...I really appreciate your effort to help...
but that is what I currently have now with AT&T...

*61 dialed right after you disconnect...
covers 100 blocked calls for me...
and I'm pretty diligent about blocking calls...

I use up my allotted 100 pretty quick...
seems like once a month I get a recording that I have exceeded my limit...
then I log in and delete the 50-75 oldest to make room for newer calls...
it works pretty good...but they seem to call back from another number in a few days...

I may be over exaggerating my issues with spam solicitors...
but I always get 1-2 or 3 daily...

I have had this same phone number for over 40 years...
so my number is definitely out there and gets resold to many new solicitors...

the "National Do Not Call Registry" is a joke...
it doesn't work at all to the best of my knowledge...

Mike-
I may be mistaken but in addition to being able to block individual callers, I think there is an option to have your carrier identify spam calls and block them from ever reaching you. But you have to opt in to get that.

Doug...
really appreciate your suggestions trying to help me...
I will give them a call and see if they have some software that can help me alleviate some unwanted calls...
I'm sure I'm not their only customer whining about this...
I'm probably making a bigger deal about this than it really is...
as mostly I just disconnect when they start their sales pitch...
but I get a little peeved that they are getting over on me...

Telephones that are connected to your home or business through wires, usually buried underground as opposed to cell phones.

Oh, so sort of ancient technology then. ^&grin

(My original query was a joke that seemed to miss the mark).

I finally dropped my landline after a year where literally the only calls I ever received on it were telemarketers or other spam calls. Seemed a waste of money.

The amount of money I spent on gas going to the Gettysburg and MFCA shows the past couple of weeks.

I spent more than I did when I last went to Chicago in 2019.................CHICAGO, which is 18 hours one way.

The price of gas in this country is criminal.

ancient and reliable...

land lines are still extremely popular with business's...both large and small...
cell phones are more popular with younger individuals...

land lines are cheap...cell phones can cost over $1,000 for the newer ones...no contract...provides exceptional sound quality...not dependent on cell tower reception...still work in power outages (hurricanes)...911 can track your call in an emergency...you can fax on it...don't have to carry your phone in your pocket when at home...just pick up the closest land line...almost impossible to hack into a land line...and did I mention cheap...

I have both...but would never give up my land line...or my cell...

And cell towers go down during storms.. we still had our land line when that happened.

I don't have a personal cell phone. Hate them. The sound quality is awful. Like talking to someone at the bottom of a well. It's a generational thing as most younger folks don't have landlines. Today is the PA primary and I haven't received a single political call. The first time ever. Lots of mail but no phone calls. The only change for the better in recent memory.

heard a story on the radio this morning...107.5 FM Houston...The Eagle...Classic Rock...

they reported a survey that claims the average American gets 26 spam calls per week...
that sounds like a lot...
I don't think I get that many...but maybe pretty close...I'm guessing 3 a day...maybe more...
a lot of calls I get...when I say hello...I'm greeted with silence...nobody replies so I just disconnect...
it's 8:45 AM here and I have already had 2 spam calls today...

and Doug...I called AT&T...and AT&T's best advice is just keep using my 100 allowed on blocking calls...

The inability of garbage and recycling guys to show up on time. Resulting in garbage sitting out and/or blowing all over the place before they pick it up. They claim that there is a shortage of sanitation workers and inability to repair trucks etc.

They need to quit paying people for sitting on their butt.
Or maybe pay people better.

I live in a condominium complex, 68 townhouse condos laid out in blocks of 4, we're in a middle unit, about 3,000 square feet.

We have two large dumpsters and about a dozen recycle barrels, they are labeled 6 plastic, 6 cardboard, it's clear, as in crystal, that you are NOT to throw furniture and other large items in the dumpster, just bags of trash and smallish household items.

But that does not stop some moron from trying to jam a couch, fridge or grand piano in there, we've got a guy who comes here and picks up large items for short money, but again, it amazes me what morons here attempt to stuff into the dumpsters.

They installed cameras down there and anytime there is a huge item in the dumpster, they review the tape and nail the imbecile with a 100.00 fine, then they drop the item off on their doorstep for them to properly dispose of it.
