Things that annoy me (1 Viewer)

Say what you will about the Unabomber who passed away today but his philosophy about mankind becoming slaves of technology was dead on. It's unreal how much has changed in just the last few decades. You can't go anywhere where people are not staring at their phones. My son would be on his computer from dawn until he collapsed from exhaustion if given the opportunity. Every kid I know is exactly the same. Adults are not much better.

Was watching the last inning of the Oregon/ORU regional game last night, tied 8-8 with Oregon batting; they had two on with one out, the stands were a sea of people standing holding up their IPhones trying to capture the game winning hit, which came shortly thereafter.

We've become a society of people who are glued to their IPhones, all they do is stare at it all day long like zombies.

What a concept.

The incredible amount of junk email/scam emails I get carpet bombed with, email after email telling my Amazon, Apple, Walmart, Ebay, Paypal account has been hacked or charges made that were not made.

It's beyond annoying.

Same here, George. I have a whole folder for scam mail with over 200 entries. So far, the Geek Squad, Mcafee, have renewed my expired contracts 100 times for about $10K just this year and Coinbase is a close runner-up. -- Al

Right; I forgot about Geek Squad and how many times they've charged me for their services, thanks for the reminder.............;).

You didn’t get my invoice? I sold you some rare African diamonds.

We've turned into the crowds you see in sci-fi films, like the audience in "The Running Man", or in the original "Rollerball." Too much freedom without the corollary that you need to exercise responsibility along with it.

Prost!

Weather that includes temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Give me the cold vs the heat; when it's cold, you put on a sweater/hoodie, when it's hot, it's just not comfortable no matter what you do.

I love to sit on my deck in the Spring/Fall in the morning and late afternoon, July and August is a non starter.

European "air conditioning". Just got back from Holland and Norway. I know it is usually cool there, but this is still 2023. Why no A/C in most places? It makes me laugh when Norway has the electric buses but makes most of its money on oil. I guess they draw the line on climate change when it cuts into the profits.

Tons of people in Holland wearing NY Yankees hats. A few had the good taste to wear Dodger hats but I'm not sure why there are so many Yankee fans in Holland.

George:

I could not agree more.

It is like I always say, I love everything about Texas except for 3 things, June, July and August.

Lived six yrs in Germany (a while ago) and no AC in the places we lived. Did not usually get above 80 deg but was uncomfortable when it did. Likewise, most autos have no AC as well.

Yankees have better marketing... was the same here in UK some fifteen years or so back. must be on it's return cycle !

My wife says that when anyone asks me about a trip that we have taken, the only thing that I tell them is how much I hated the air travel and how pretty the girls were. The same holds true for my recent trip to Europe. No major delays but the overnight flight is punishing with the customs lines and time change. I don't know how people who travel on a regular basis do it. It is brutal even when things go like clockwork. The guy sitting in front of me on the return trip must have been pushing 400lbs. The girls in Amsterdam were drop dead gorgeous! Just watch out for the bikes.

So the NFL, a league/sport that is hugely popular due mainly to gambling, is now suspending players...................for gambling.

This has to be one of those oxmorons I hear so much about.

Hypocrites.

I know I'm being obtuse, but MLB is now flocking betting in just about every form in regards to their product, so why not forgive Pete Rose and let him into the HoF? Why hold it against Rose just because he was a few decades ahead of everyone else? Come on, MLB. -- Al

Who could see this coming? There is so much money involved now in sports gambling. It's inevitable that players and officials will eventually get caught up in scandal. Particularly since the professional sports leagues have embraced gambling. The NBA, NFL and others are now in bed with gambling for good or ill. Follow the money as they say.

Rose should be in the HOF for what he did on the field. Period. If they took out all of those who did something wrong there would probably not be many players in HOF.

This will be hugely unpopular but I think Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, McGwire, Rodriguez, etc. should be in HOF also. I know about the charges of performance enhancing drugs but isn't lifting weights and working out like they do now performance enhancing? And why isn't Rafael Palmeiro is in the HOF?
