Things that annoy me (1 Viewer)

Breaking into a locked phone, especially when the owner is dead, is not, because of increasingly sophisticated encryption, all that easy. In addition, in this case, court approval is required, although that should be easy to get. Probably the FBI will need to hire a firm to do it. That’s what they had to do in 2016 after the San Bernardino shootings.

It's the assassination attempt of the former President. The number one news story in the world and priority of law enforcement. Whatever needs to be done should have been done yesterday. I'm sure this situation has come up before and they know how to open the phone. The absence of answers results in conspiracy theories. With all the lies that the FBI has perpetuated including covering up the motive of the Nashville shooter to this day, they need to be transparent to restore confidence. So far, so bad. The secret service has yet to explain how the building was left unguarded or whose responsibility it was to guard it. And if they can't open the phone or know the shooter's motive, how have they concluded he acted alone? I think he did but it's premature to reach that conclusion.

I’m sure they will get those things done quickly but my point was that’s it’s not necessarily a snap to do so although our first inclination is to think it’s easy.

You have much more confidence in them than I do. There are questions that could be answered at this point. Whose responsibility was it to secure the building? When did the counter-sniper team become aware of the threat? Why didn't they neutralize the shooter before he could fire the shots? There is video footage of the counter-sniper team aiming their rifles in the direction of the shooter while Trump was still speaking. Before any shots had been fired. They appear to have hesitated before taking him out. My guess is that they were uncertainty whether the shooter was a member of the security detail and hesitated. That delay allowed the shooter to fire and it was only a miracle that Trump wasn't killed. If so, this was a colossal security failure in which the head of the secret service and the local law enforcement should be fired. I'm also sure that the Dems do not want the shooter's motive to be connected in any way to their rhetoric. The FBI has shown a willingness in recent cases to give these investigations a slow roll and even refuse to reach any conclusions when they have negative political consequences. They have started down that path here.

To close the loop on this, the FBI in Pa attempted to break into his phone but were unable to do so and the phone has been sent to Quantico to be unlocked.

One of my best friends as we came on the police department together but a few years later he became a secret service agent. I talked to him yesterday to get his take. He first said that the SS is responsible for 200 feet around the protected person the other areas are the responsibilities of local law enforcement. Now that is not to say the SS does not do anything as they always send in an advance team. It's just the actual people are local law enforcement. He then commented on the sniper team. He said if they had seen this subject on the roof and just shot him and say there was no gun they would have been up s---s creek. He said and I don't know what the situation was in Pa. but if the SS is short the sniper team might again be local law enforcement. His main criticism was the way they moved Trump. No stopping to let him get his shoes are wave his fist at the crowd . He said they should have just picked him up and more or less carry him immediately to the waiting suv. As for the local officer who confronted the shooter on the roof from what I understand he was on a ladder or was climbing up the side. What was he suppose to do he had no way to reach for his firearm. From personal experience I was on numerous presidential details and I know these were years ago but once we were assigned our detail location we did not have immediate communication with the SS. We would have had to contact our dispatcher, who in turn would contact the SS. One other thing if I would have seen the guy on the roof my first thought was he was SS. I thought one glaring thing stood out to me that there were 3 female agents around Trump one of which was short and could not cover Trump plus you could see they were not physically able to carry Trump.

The efforts of the secret service advance team and local law enforcement were a complete disgrace. The reports today indicate that the shooter bought a ladder and perhaps used that to get on the building. He was identified as a suspicious person 30 minutes before the shooting because he was using a range finder! What could be noticeable about being dressed in camo-like outfit, using a range finder, carrying a ladder and a rifle through the crowd? If he had rode a pink elephant, it couldn't have stood out more. Then he is on the building for almost two minutes. The secret service indicates that local law enforcement had responsibility for the building and that there were police in the building. What are they doing while a shooter is on the roof? Can't they get to him in two minutes? It is a colossal failure on par with Uvalde. At a minimum, the head of the secret service and local law enforcement should be fired. All the police officers who failed to respond should be fired and the families of those who were killed or injured should sue them for negligence.

The head of the SS when asked about that building said no security was assigned to it as the roof was sloped and presented a danger, plus the building had local law enforcement inside and they had secured it.

Umm..........they secured the roof from the inside?

She needs to go, period, end of story, she's been asked to resign but refused, apparently a friend of Jill Biden's who got the job as a result.

How this crackpot was able to come through the woods, climb up on the building and get off 8 shots is beyond my comprehension.

Had Trump not turned his head the split second before the bullet struck, he'd be a goner.

It's nothing short of a miracle he's still alive.

The cop Gary mentioned peeked up on the roof, the kid pointed his gun at him, he ducked down, then the kid whirled around and fired........as soon as he pointed his guy at the officer, he should have been taken out, more so when he whirled around and began to fire.

What a colossal fudge up on a number of levels.

Hope they do a better job than with the gun in the Alec Baldwin shooting. The FBI literally broke the pistol with a mallet. You can't make this up.

I can't believe how slowly information trickles out with everyone and their brother having cameras. They are telling us today that the shooter bought a ladder on the day of the event. I'm not Sherlock Holmes, but I'm guessing he used that ladder to climb on top of the building. Think of the image where this miscreant carries a ladder and his rifle from his car which must have been parked some distance from the building past the spectators and law enforcement to the building. Nothing to see there. Then he climbs up the ladder to the roof and crosses from building to building like spiderman. What were the police doing inside the buidling while peopel are yelling that there is a shooter on the roof? Not a single reporter or spectator walks around the building after the shooting and films a ladder propped against the building? And on and on. The FBI is saying the shooter didn't use his phone. No texts. How many 20 year old people buy an iphone and don't use it?

Those foolish get ups the players wore yesterday in the MLB all star game; and yeah, I get it, it's another attempt to sell merchandise, but what a clownshow.

One of the things I always thought was cool was how MLB players in the all star game wore their team uniforms, unlike in the NBA and NHL all star games or the NFL pro bowl where that would not work due to the speed of the game.

Call me an old school/get off my lawn person all you want, just a dumb idea.

The story about Terrell Davis being handcuffed and arrested on a flight for asking for some ice. Unreal. Many other NFL players I wouldn't believe, but he sounds like a credible guy. What happened to him is inexcusable. Hopefully he sues United Airlines for millions.

It was 103 degrees here yesterday and my power was off for almost 24 hours following a small rain shower. There is no way to contact anyone at our utility provider Met Ed. They don't even provide a telephone number. Instead they have an online system that provides "updates" on the outage. Every two hours they push back their estimate another two hours for an entire day. Brutal. They are making hundreds of millions in profits but every time the wind blows, the power goes out here. Like a third world country. What happened to all that "infrastructure" money? At least we are not Texas. I'm usually a fan of Governor Abbott but he is in the pocket of the energy folks out there. Their electric grid is a complete disaster because of the lack of regulation.

Yes, those unis were God awful but it is about the money. Someone will buy the jerseys. At least a Dodger won the home run contest. That is the only thing they may win this season. It's not looking good.

Understood, all about the money is right, the colors and designs were just horrendous.

Still a long way to go, they have too much talent not to straighten things out.

Yeah, the same idea is behind the awful "City Connect" uniforms. Every team has a uniform that is supposed to highlight something characteristic of the city. They're dreadful, ugly. But it's one more jersey, one more cap to buy, along with all the other swag teams slap their logo on and sell in the clubhouse stores.

Prost!

Chris Sale.

After the 2018, Dombrowski signs him to a huge contract extension, all he did was get hurt......and when he wasn't hurt, he had two pitches; balls and home runs.

So they trade him to the Braves for an up and coming 2nd baseman and eat most of the contract......who promptly gets hurt twice and is still on the DL.

Meanwhile, Sale is 13-3, been lights out, 110 IP, 140 strike outs, an all star.

In the four years he was on the team from 2019-2023 after signing the mega deal, I don't think he won 13 games combined.

Just unreal.

Air travel is always miserable but anyone flying today is hating life. I tried to get my driver's license renewed this morning and they told me the glitch is keeping DMV from processing them. Unreal that such a widespread issue can occur. A major security flaw. Imagine what the hackers are thinking today.

The Red Sox can't win on Friday's, stink against left handed pitching and have trouble with plus .500 teams.........but other than that....................

Phillies was winning 7-4 ended up losing 8-7. Had a pitcher who struck out the side in the 8th and took him out for a pitcher who has been inconsistent his last few outings. I think most MLB pitchers can pitch more than one inning. The oldtimers must be cringing when they see how pitchers are handled now.
