Things that annoy me (4 Viewers)

It doesn't necessarily annoy me but it is concerning that the US and other governments have decided that they can seize the assets of private individuals because they are: 1) Russian; and, 2) wealthy. Using the word "oligarch" apparently suffices. I can understand the desire to punish Putin and Russia but the legal authority to seize private assets absent some demonstrable wrong doing on behalf of the individual is concerning. There appears to be a concept of collective guilt by association at work. Not dissimilar to the situation during WWII with Japanese citizens. It sets a dangerous precedent if the government can just declare a group of individuals collectively responsible for the acts of others and take their property. No matter how unlikeable they might be. I'm not suggesting that I feel bad for these wealthy Russians but just that this line authority is fraught with risk for abuse in the future. You can be deemed a "bad" person whose assets are subject to seizure due to whatever subjective criteria the government decides to impose. I'm surprised all these seizures have not been subject to legal appeals. Maybe they are. But even if successful, the government can draw that process out for years.

Fellow Forum Members,
To go to the time and effort to positively participate in this forum, to an active thread, including reconfiguring images, only to have it lost in some kind o a smokey abyss. it's not worth the effort, Sorry.

Smokey abyss? The things on this thread are interesting. To see what bothers some people but not others I find interesting.

Pretty sure he's referring to the fact that he had to do jump through hoops to resize/reconfigure/reconstitute images to shoehorn them onto this site only to have them vanish into thin air...................

Thank you very much Warrior, those are exactly my thoughts. For years I have responded to active threads on this forum, not to have the response show up as such, but somewhere in a more obscure general category file. Indeed frustrating.

Easiest way to post photos is using a link! Host them elsewhere (yes you will probably have to pay a small yearly fee to save your photos) and no re-sizing needed!
I have to limit the size of photos otherwise the cost of maintaining this Forum would skyrocket, and I pay for that so you all can use and enjoy for free.

Jim...

I don't understand...
your posts don't end up where you thought you posted them?

I have 17,000 posts on here and have never had one show up anywhere but exactly where I posted them...

I might have accidently posted them in the wrong spot once...or twice...but that's my bad...

mine always show up exactly where I post them...

Top notch law enforcement. The NYC subway shooter continued to ride the subway for hours after the shooting. They don't have any facial recognition technology with all those cameras? He then apparently continued to walk the streets and eat at McDonald's. He eventually had to call a tip line to turn himself in. When the cops arrived they still couldn't find him. A bystander had to point him out. When arrested he had on the exact same all black NY Yankees baseball cap that he was pictured in the images the police had sent around to the media. Not exactly a master of disguise.

People who let their dogs run wild in public places. Unreal and dangerous. I also wonder how many times those delivery guys have to fight off a dog when delivering packages.

I have a corollary peeve to that one-people who don't clean up after their dogs, either.
Here in Bethlehem, most dog owners are pretty conscientious about cleaning up, but I've seen some who don't. Incredibly inconsiderate.

Prost!

I have a corollary on your corollary. How about stepping in gum that someone has thrown on a parking lot or sidewalk? Maddening. Almost impossible to get off.

Yes letting dogs run really bothers me.Last month a young husky came in the yard and killed one of my cats. She was a older cat who never left the yard and for her life to end that way broke my heart. My cousin captured the husky and called animal control and they found the dog had been chipped. So they found out this dog had gotten out before so animal control said the owner would be fined and the dog would be taken the next time it got loose. What really got to me was the way the dog got loose. It seems the owner's 3 year old opened the door and let it out. That's telling me the 3 year old could have gotten out and god forbid got hit by a car/truck. People just don't think when it comes to safety. Also the woman across the street's dog kept breaking loose so instead of securing him better it ended up getting killed.

A water shortage in California in the year 2022. Keep in mind California is the most prosperous place in the history of the world at this moment. Average homes cost around a million dollars in many areas. It is also located on the ocean. But they can't figure out how to have enough water to wash their cars or water their lawns.

Record droughts. Read an article about Lake Powell is lowest level in 100 years.

You gotta remember that we don't have much rainfall here. Here in San Diego, we've only had about 6 inches of rain this past year . . . the annual average is a little over 10 inches!
We have numerous dams, recycle a lot, and are purifying sea water, so we're in pretty good shape compared to the rest of the state. I've got only 2500 sq ft of grass plus a flower garden . . . with the latter being composed mostly of native, drought resistant plants. Even with limited watering, the cost is about $400 per month. And, yes, we work hard to conserve water . . . as do our neighbors. But California also grows most of the country's fruits and nuts (no comment, please) and that takes a lot of water.

I was raised in the Northeast and spent a lot of time in the Middle Atlantic states . . . they're good places but it's San Diego for me!

I live in the driest state in the driest continent in the world. Fortunately South Australia has a small population, so dams and water tanks work, but we have been on rations at times. No wonder bush fires are always a threat over Summer. Still would not live anywhere else, love the place. Robin.
