College Football 2012 (1 Viewer)

I'm not sure I can see a justification for the last pick, other than wishful hoping, which I can't blame you for as an alumnus of USC. Also consider that when entering the game undefeated, Irish are 14-6 against USC.

Brad-
Your are probably right, but college football is a strange game. In a million years I would never have predicted that Oregon could be held to 14 points in an OT game at home. They were averaging something like 50 points. I think ND will dominate the offensive and defensive line. That makes it tough to win unless you play almost a perfect game. Barkley has been awful this year for SC. Not all of it is his fault, but the majority of SC fans think we have a better chance without him. From all accounts Wittek has a stronger arm and is more mobile than Barkley. But I guess we will all find out at the same time if that is true. Should be fun. I've never seen so many ND shirts and flags as I have this week. A huge game for that program which has been down for a long time.

Always been a Notre Dame fan and for that reason I still revere the '66 match-up, which the Irish won 51-0 (also the year of the famous 10-10 game with Mich.St.). By the same token, I abhor the memory of the '74 game, which USC won 55-24, after the Irish lead 24-0. Two classic games and memories, one fantastic, one horrid. You gotta love the vagaries of college football. -- Al

^&grin^&grin^&grin^&grin^&grin{bravo}}{bravo}}^&grin^ GO ND! Great game.

I was 10 years old the last time this happened. A lot of heart ache for a long time but today is a brand new day. Congrats ND you made me one very happy camper. 1 more time for all the marbles.

Give ND credit. They held the game in check and won. Now they get the winner of SEC game and that should make for an interesting final. Alabama (IMO) when firing on all cylinders are going to be a tough opponent should they get by Georgia.

Side note - I am going to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta next Saturday night, should be a ton of fun, I couldn't pass up the opp. Not sure if I care who wins, but I will be dressed in Georgia colors in support of Coach Richt (former FSU O coordinator). Go Dawgs!

After watching that game last night, now I know why USC fans have been screaming for Kiffins head, good God is he terrible; time out management, clock management, play calling, you name it, he stinks at it.

Twice they had first and goal inside the 5 yard line and came away with 3 points, that is terrible. They kept trying to run it up the middle, ND sold out, pinching their safties up, run a handoff/bootleg to the right why don't you, or for Christ sake, keep throwing the fade pattern to #9, that was a mismatch all game long.

ND has a great red zone defense, that is for sure. I hear people saying already Bama will win next Saturday and then roll ND; sorry, I don't see it that way, it should be quite a game IF Bama beats Georgia.

Personally I think ND/OSU would have been epic, but the NCAA and their sanctions/penalties ruined that potential match up.

Great win for ND. George makes a good point about USC's clock management and play calling. Who doesn't score with 6 straight plays inside the 5 yard line? USC, that's who. Even had they scored on that last drive, USC used so much time up there was no hope barring an unlikely on-side kick miracle. On to the Big One. Who will ND play? My money is on Bama but it will be a tough game as Georgia is much improved. I'd love to see ND win the title but I have my doubts, depending on which SEC team makes it. I think ND wins against Georgia, losses to Bama. Regardless of the result, ND has had a terrific year and is back on top as befits that storied program. Knute would be proud. :wink2: -- Al

Great win for the Irish. They have been down for a long time. This team played with heart. I don't think it will be enough though if they get Alabama but it should be a good game for once. As for SC, a disappointing season right down the line. Hopefully they pass on any bowl game and call it a year.

My question is how does ND find a student every four years that looks like a leprechaun, or has it been the same guy all this time who's on the John Belushi Animal House fast track to college graduation?

Pretty sad that Wisconsin is going to the B1G 10 championship game only because OSU and PSU are on probation. I hope Nebraska rolls them and gains momentum for the Rose Bowl.

Good to see Northwestern finally lay the lumber to someone...even better that it was the Illini. NU's marketing for several years has been "Chicago's Big 10 Team." Apparently that stuck in the craw of the UI, so they proclaimed themselves 'King of Chicago' and, following last year's UI win, blared 'Sweet Home Chicago' on the PA system. Real class! I've never seen a team quite as inept as the Illini...the best was when their head coach got in the way of an official on the sideline and was penalized (the second time in the same quarter that a UI coach interfered with an official). How do you yell at your players for stupid penalties when you are getting them yourself!

Watch for Venrick Mark on early Heisman lists for next year. He's small but mighty!

Bama beats UGa for the SEC crown and a spot against ND for the national crown and allI can say is 'wow'. That was the best game I have watched this year. Bama ran all over UGa but UGa had a chance to win at the end and only an unfortunate play call/result on the last play of the game prevented a possible win for UGa. I can only hope that the national championship game is half as entertaining. ^&cool -- Al

The problem with the last play was that it was deflected. Ad the Ga receiver not caught it, they would have had time for one last play.

Gentleman,
Just returned to the hotel from the SEC game. GA had a heck of a go at it but the best team won. What a game, maybe in my top 5 I have attended. There is no comparison to the SEC right now. If bama plays to their ability, Norte dame beware!

ND caught quite a few breaks this year. First with a weaker than expected schedule. Michigan, Mich. St. and USC turned out to be awful. Second, the refs made game changing calls in their favor against Pitt and Stanford. You need those breaks sometimes to go undefeated. And finally a freshman QB turned out to be a guy who can win at the highest level. The biggest difference with ND this year is they don't beat themselves with turnovers. Last year was a nightmare of turnovers. Particularly in the red zone. It will interesting to see if they can play with Bama or whether they get steamrolled. I think it could go either way. If ND can ugly the game down and play physical with Bama it might be close.

I am an ND fan, but I agree with the above. I think there is a very good chance that ND could get slaughtered. Bama, like most SEC teams year after year, prosper by being more physical than everyone else. I just don't see ND hanging with Bama on the physical level, especially that Bama running game. Bama can be vulnerable to a hot Qb, but it is almost impossible to get hot and stay hot the whole game against them. ND will have to keep their Qb warm and dry to have a chance. That said, I want to see ND make a game of it and Bama does have the occasional bad half of football. -- Al

Bowl schedules/match-up are out. From December 20 thru January 7 there are only 3 days, Dec.23, 25, and 30, without at least one game scheduled. Gonna be a fun stretch. And how about Northern Illinois getting the Orange Bowl? Didn't see that one coming. -- Al

Will watch two bowl games; the game Oklahoma plays in (my favorite team) and the national championship game (when is that game by the way, June?).

Could care less about the rest.

I actually watched the Northern Illinois Kent State game. Very entertaining. Went to two OTs.

In addition to Oklahoma, LSU and Georgia were shut out of the BCS bowls. Talk about a narrow margin of error. Georgia was a few yards away from beating Bama and playing for the national championship. Instead they end up in the Capital One Bowl.
