College Football - finally (1 Viewer)

As most of you know, I am a Terp but have a very strong Seminole connection, therefore I couldn't lose Saturday. That said, I thought the Terps blew this one, they seemed to have more momentum in a back and forth game, but Terps didn't put up points when opportunity arose, the Noles did. I also really didn't care for the play calling offensively late 3rd and 4th qtrs. IMO, that didn't help. I still am slightly sour on my alma mater.

Hi Tom. I know what you mean about sour. UMd can't seem to make up its mind about the football program. They seem to remain on the outskirts of a respectable program, not wanting to commit the money it would take to be a real contender. I well remember the years of Claiborne and Ross when we had good teams that could battle anyone. UMd just seems to settle for the middle of the pack, better (in most years) than the basement, but never quite top floor. It is frustrating. -- Al

I'm not sure if this is good news or not for Penn St. At 84 most guys are drooling their soup instead of standing in the freezing cold with the potential to be run over by a 300 lb football player:

Joe Paterno announced Tuesday he will return for his 46th season as coach of Penn State. Paterno, who will turned 84 this December, is the winningest coach in major college football with 401 career victories.

Well, there is a lot of time till April, when they start training camps- let's get him past that first!!:D

Just so everyone is aware, JoePa is a human clone :)

There is a huge game today, the Iron Bowl, between Auburn and Bama. Going to find out if Auburn's offense is as good as it seems, or possibly that it's defense is as bad as it seems. Either way it is an important game. Could make or break Auburn. -- Al

Yikes, I had forgotten they play today. A big game and Arizona/Oregon tonight. My fearless predictions:

#2 Auburn at #11 Bama - The tide rolls. Can't see them losing three games this season. Hard to pull for Auburn with all the stories about Newton.

#21 Arizona at #1 Oregon - Oregon is nearly unbeatable at home. I'm picking them with the hope that it is a curse and they lose. But don't count on it. Arizona is in a funk. Oregon wins big.

#5 LSU at #12 Arkansas. Upset time. LSU has to be the luckiest team in all sports. The law of averages says it catches up with them. Ark. wins.

ND at USC. No BCS implications but plenty on the line for these old school teams that have fallen on hard times. Both have new coaching staffs, injured QBs and need a win to avoid a disappointing season. ND is playing well recently but it ends in LA. The mighty Trojans put it on them by three TDs. Not that I'm biased. ;)

Oh John??? Calling LEADMAN!! Please complete the following phrase for me:

WE ARE.....

:D:D:D

I'm taking Auburn over Bama tomorrow. I think they drop their third.

Well, color me surprised. I thought Bama had this one put away after leading 24-0 in the 2nd quarter. Auburn's defense looked terrible and the offense unimpressive. Then halftime and the teams must have changed uniforms with each other. A complete reversal. A great comeback win for Auburn and Heisman winner to be Newton. How do you blow a 24-0 lead at this level? -- Al

Couple great games today. Auburn Vs Alabama and West Virginia vs Piitt. West Va's win leaves the door open for UCONN if we can win our last 2. Cincinati at the Rent tomorrow at noon. Haven't lost a home game alll year. Hope it continues

I put the kiss of death on Bama by picking them to win and then turning the TV on when they were up 24-0. After that it was all downhill. A major choke job.

MD manages to hang on to a 3 touchdown lead, barely, to win. Congrats to the Terps on a very good season. :D Wonder if T Smith returns?

Excellent game for the Terps, except they almost packed up too early. Was a good year from Ralph and the boys, better than I expected. Hope T. Smith will come back to team up some more with O'Brien. A bowl game win would be an excellent ending. -- Al

WE ARE LUCKY...... the last quarter had me worried. The Michigan player who intercepted in the end zone and then wanted to be a hero and run it back...fumble. Dumb a.. award of the game. Good Game but I think Wisconsin will get the Rose Bowl. J

Not the season I pictured for ND but I will take the win over USC any day!!!!! Finally, I can die a happy man :D

Amen to that!, I've been going to the USC-Notre Dame games for years, nice for the program.

If I was a betting man, I would have cleaned up yesterday. I had Ohio St., Maryland, FSU, and ND. Rare that my picks all work out. Congrats to them all. -- Al

It was a good game and I am proud of our Lions. Great luck to the Spartans as well this year- they are a class act in their own right,.

Any one got any hunches on the games today? I am not familier enough with either team in the Oregon-Oregon St. game, so I will just say Oregon. I like Va. Tech over Florida St. and Auburn over SC. OK-Neb will be a good one but I have no feel for it, so just say Neb. Still waiting on the BIG game, next weeks Army-Navy contest. GO NAVY! -- Al

Two for two at this juncture. Oregon is going to have it's hands full with Cam "Heisman" Newton. He is a force of nature on a football field. That is going to be a championship game worth watching on Jan.10. -- Al

Ralph Friedgen ACC Coach of the Year. How about that Al? Looks like MD heads to the Military Bowl or some other obscurity. Wash Post cites lack of fan support during the year.
