College Football - finally (1 Viewer)

Call me crazy, but I think UMd can take this one. BC hasn't shown much, 0-3 in the conference, so I lean to the Terps (which, of course, means Fridge will find a way to lose). Also, in other local action, will be pulling for the USNA over ND. -- Al
Well, I picked UMd. to win and they did, barely, 24-21. They tried to blow the game but couldn't quite pull it off. The Turtles are now 5-2, great improvement over last year so I guess the year has been a success so far. One more win to be bowl eligible.:D Navy butchered ND so the day has been good for the local teams. -- Al

ND loses or rather gets humiliated by Navy today. Third loss to Navy in the last four seasons after winning 43 in a row! Whew. That hurts. And Texas gets beat by Iowa St. at home after beating a top ten team on the road last week. That's why college football is so much fun or so painful depending on your perspective.

Guess I need a little more faith! Congrats to the Terps. Maybe bowl eligible this season. UK goes down to Georgia, so the weekend is a split decision.

Does Freidgen retire if UM goes bowling?

Gadzooks! Number 1 goes down for the third week in a row. The computers are going to blow a gasket. Guess that leaves Oregon next up for the jinx spot. Nice game, Mizzou. -- Al

Yeah great, my Sooners go down the drain, just wonderful.

Can't wait for the BCS Championship game between Boise St and TCU, WOW, what excitement.......

I hear ya George, but don't worry though. I don't think either of those teams will make it to play for the national championship. Sorry about your Sooners, but your Sooners and a bunch of other undefeated and/or one loss teams are more deserved of a trip to Glendale than Boise St. for sure. So you're not out of it yet, and you still might get a chance to redeem yourself against MO if you meet in the BIG 12 championship. As it stands now, I believe Auburn and OR are the best teams. But that could certainly change because both Auburn and OR have some tough teams left to play, unlike Boise St.
Michigan State has surprised me as well this year, and WI is tearing it up!. One thing is for sure, it has been a fantastic season...there's nothin' like college football!

Alabama is still in the hunt. Several teams ahead of them have been shot down and they get a chance to knock off Auburn. A 12-1 SEC champion probably gets in over an undefeated Boise or TCU unless you have two undefeated teams from Oregon, Michigan St. or Missouri. I doubt those teams run the table though with the BCS monkey on their back. btw: the latest computer rankings have an undefeated Oregon team ranked between 6-11!! Even though they are #1 in all the human polls. That's crazy stuff.

I was at the Oregon-UCLA game, Oregon is unstoppable on offense.

That's what they said last year before the Rose Bowl game with Ohio St. I'm not saying SC will beat them, but it's going to be one heck of a game.

The Middies looked very very impressive- one of my lifting partners is a diehard ND guy (and Phillies fan- tough Saturday :)). Navy looked really strong

PSU won!! Thanks to the GG's!! :)

Yes, Penn State beat the powerhouse Minneapolis South High School :D

How can a team with a brand new and beautiful stadium be that bad? Good thing I'm already a Northwestern and Iowa fan or I might care...

Rolling the dice this weekend for some upsets:

#5 Michigan St. @ #18 Iowa - taking Iowa.

#6 Missouri @ #14 Nebraska - Neb.

#2 Oregon @ USC - the Ducks have one of the best O's and SC one of the worst D's. Common sense says it could be ugly. But I'm taking the Trojans at home. They play well on the big stage and this is their biggest game of the season. The Ducks can also play tight in big games and haven't gone 8-0 since the 30's.

#13 Stanford @ Washington - Washington wins at home against an overrated Stanford.

So much for over rated Stanford.

Maryland U. massacres Wake Forest. If UMd. doesn't make the Top 10 this week I will demand a recount!:p Just kidding, of course, but it is fun to see them win after last year. They are now 6-2 and I thought 4 or 5 wins would be good for the year. That's ACC football fer ya. -- Al

Good call on those first two. Oregon looks good so far (at the half). We shall see if USC can slow them down in the 2nd half. -- Al

You were right, Oregon was a little tight, they only scored 53 on the road.

Top 4 are safe but the rest of the field will be shaken up again because of the upsets. Hard to believe that FSU and Miami both fell to inferior ACC teams but I guess that defines upset. Haven't seen Oregon play prior to last night but I was pretty impressed with their speed and ability to score at will. Still not convinced that the SEC doesn't have the better teams in head to head match-ups. I would love to see if the likes of TCU, Boise St., or Oregon could stay with Auburn or Bama. I suspect not but will have to wait like everyone else for the BCS mess at the end. -- Al
