I'm sorry if I offended anyone on here that wasn't my intent. I just feel there can be different points of view on this. To be honest as far as being political this whole thread is political as there's not one post on this thread that's about toy soldiers. Unfortunately the virus has become totally political. I'm a little gruff the way I speak but that's just the way I am. I've lost two family members age 22 and 29 to suicide and drug overdose in the last year so maybe you can understand that I look at the larger picture than just the virus. This will be my last post here as I don't want to get your thread closed. Be well everyone.
Mark

No apologies are needed Mark in view of what’s happened to your family. It’s been a tough year for us all and sometimes it’s unavoidable that it will be reflected on the Forum, present company included. I’m sure, in some way, we’re all worried that we make it through to next spring or summer.

Very nicely said Brad, thank you. I really think with the way all of us have come together on this form that we could solve some of the world's problems. Mark, may your lost loved ones rest peacefully. I hope your pain subsides with the passage of time. Please continue posting on this thread and others. I really enjoy your thoughts and presence.

My prayers for you and those you have lost,
Joe

Guys, kind of what I meant about my earlier post. I think all of us put too much stock in any of the politicians regardless of who you support. End of the day, it really doesn't matter long term as the pendulum continues to swing in the short term. Health, happiness and family are more important. As I said, each and every day, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and it will do so the same way on every day. The day it doesn't come up is when I will worry!

Mark no need to apologise mate, if folks want to get a little bent regarding your posts then that's their problem. Covid's a highly contentious issue and everyone has an opinion and a right to express it. I for one enjoy your posts and its good to add another perceptive to the conversation.

Quick post thanking Brad for his insights into pharmaceuticals and the approval processes etc.

The Coronavirus is Airborne Indoors. Why are we Still Scrubbing Surfaces?

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/18/...tion=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage

BINGO

Not for nothing, but that's been my understanding for months now, which is why I can't fathom why people are drowning themselves, their mail and packages in lysol and hand sanitizer and why they are scrubbing down their houses from floor to ceiling and wiping down their groceries................IT'S AN AIRBORNE VIRUS, you get it by inhaling droplets from an infected person.

Yesterday at the bank, some lady comes in with TWO masks on, eye protection, a face shield and gloves........when the teller gave her the reciept from the transaction, she sanitized her hands...........ie, the ones that had gloves on.

Ok then.

It's airborne, which is why mask wearing is important......also, STOP fumbling around with your mask and stop sticking it in your pocket, the exterior of that mask if you've been around an infected person has contaminated droplets on it.

Talked to the mother of one of my customers today, she's a doctor..............she told me "The virus is exploding now because everyone is indoors, it likes the cold, not the heat, so be careful"...........she also told me "Six feet is good, but 13 feet apart is better..............and if you think the number of cases is bad now, wait until after Thanksgiving/the holidays when people insist of getting together, the number of cases is going to skyrocket, all it takes is ONE infected person at a gathering to infect the entire house as again, it's an airborne virus".................

She also said that 70% (or more) of the population needs to get the vaccine as if not, COVID will always be out there, it will NEVER go away.

I'll be first in line once they announce the general population is on deck.

She told me a large number of her patients who never get the flu shot have told her they will get the COVID vaccine, which is encouraging to hear.

She also said getting the flu shot helps with COVID, so there you go.

From a doctor, not some blowhard on the radio, with a blog or on Facebook.

Thanks Brad for the link above regarding air purifiers. I "took the bait" and purchased the author's #1 choice and recommendation. Was available through Amazon . . . Delivery by this Sunday - goota luv prime.

Your so right Brad.Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.
Mark

Following the play it safe trend, we were planning to have my nephew, who lives in New York, come out for Thanksgiving (as he usually does) but we are probably going to have to forego that this year.

I don't blame you, NYC on its face is inherently dangerous for transmission due to close quarters. We are having dinner with my parents only as I said because we have been together since April so we are not too worried, when there is only 5 of you and you have had the same routine pretty much for 9 months, you are I guess as safe as you are going to get!

Some terrible stories in the media recently. Over 2,000 Americans died from the virus just yesterday. One five-year old kid has lost both his parents. It's easy to lose sight of the human toll amidst the numbers and politics. Great news with the vaccines, though. Hopefully the distribution rolls out as planned. Having the military involved is a great idea.

Tom, the positivity rate in NYC is actually better than NJ, 3% vs 11%.

Pfizer and BioN Tech are filing for emergency authorization with the FDA today. It’s not clear how long the review and authorization process will take although the federal government hopes to be able to vaccinate 20 million people in December and 25-30 million people a month beginning in January. When the Moderna vaccine is ready those numbers should increase.

Well, that goes against some conventional thought I guess, I didn't know that.
TD
The government in NYS has been very proactive. The rate actually dipped below 3% again yesterday, but because the 7 day average hit 3%, NYC schools shut down, and they are setting stricter limits on the number of people allowed to dine inside of restaurants. As a result, our positivity rate is comparatively fairly low, despite the fact that New York has both a highly dense population and a ton of international travelers. If you look at the states with the highest positivity rate, they are all far less densely populated states where the government has declined to enforce mask wearing and partial shut downs.

Well if we hadn't already decided not to have a family gathering on Thanksgiving Day, we would have now. Just found out our public school administrator son-in-law is sick and has tested positive for covid. He has quarantined himself to a spare bedroom that has an on suite bathroom. Our daughter and grandson are in the process of being tested. So it goes . . .

Sounds like my sister and her family are getting through it with only mild to moderate symptoms. We are grateful they somehow didn’t give it to my parents. That’s simply a matter of timing since they’re normally in close contact, but weren’t for only that period.
