Woking hits the headlines today............ for all the wrong reasons. Looks like the South African variant has arrived and the NHS are taking no chances with the publics health. SKY News even interviewed my next door neighbor on the 2pm news when she was passing a testing centre near Goldsworth Park Lake {eek3} My wife and I live just outside the catchment area that has all the community being tested but our daughter, grandson and son in law live right in the middle and our son and his wife live just inside the boundary of the area:eek:

Wow, hopefully not spreading too much and everyone is safe. This **** virus needs to disappear as I am trying to plan a March 2022 visit to see Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest in London!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Tom:salute::

Looks like there are 8 post codes (zip codes) affected around the country from the South of England to the North of England. The news reports that, apparently, none of the people with the virus have returned from or had any contact with South Africa which seems very strange......and scary......just how did they get infected, hopefully the answer will be found soon.

Stay safe

Saw that on the news Martyn, one of my cousins lives in St Johns which apparently comes under GU21 as does a mate who lives in Woking.
Another cousin who moved to Aldershot has been confirmed with it covid and the husband of my eldest niece in Haslemere is now having to self isolate, as some one in his company caught it, not good news for him and as their daughter has Type 1 diabetes, all a bit worrying.
Furlough has now ended for me, fortunately I started two weeks annual today, after that back to going into peoples houses, as company says we'll be fine wearing a PP3 mask Can't say I'm too happy about this !:(

Oh well, Keep Calm and Carry On !

Apparently the Covid testing station has been over at the large car park next to the Goldsworth Park lake since last Friday but the news only broke this morning{sm2}

Stay safe when you get back to work mate

Door to door testing.....now that's just plain scary. {eek3}{eek3}

In saying that the America's cup has still been running and the Wiggles are popping over for a wee visit.^&grin

Hey,

I remember seeing the 'Auld Mug' being displayed here in Perth about 35 years ago when we won it off the Yanks :) :)

The best thing about that yacht race was getting the town cleaned up, and more pubs open :)

Second best thing was loosing the cup here in Fremantle and we didn't have all those tourists coming every 4 years to mess up our newly renovated city :) :).

I finally got the vaccine shot yesterday. Other than a slightly sore arm, no problem. One down and one to go. I've heard a few people complain about flu-like symptoms more commonly with the second shot.

Glad you and your daughter got it.

Glad your daughter got the shot and you as well.

Just curious; are you yourself in a high risk category as you're young, correct, mid to late 40's?

Don't understand they way they are rolling this out at all, here in MA it's nothing short of a mess.

They want you to go to either Fenway or Gillette Stadium; can you imagine what a mob scene either of those is going to be?

I've done a 180 on this vaccine, I am in no rush to get it, as in zero. I am 60 and have no risk factors, so I won't be eligible the way it's going until late Summer/early Fall anyway........................IMO, they'd be better served coming up with a pill/medicine so that if you get it and your symptoms get worse, your doctor prescribes a pill, you take it and get better vs getting jabbed with a needle.

Not to mention, just as I feared, now there are new strains popping up; UK, South Africa and Brazilian, how effective will the vaccine be on those..............are we going to have to get some sort of booster shot vs those next and for how long will the vaccine be effective........again, will we be required to get a booster shot every year, much like the flu shot?

And it's not like once you get the vaccine, you go back to normal, masks are still required, indoor gatherings restricted, certain activities you still can't do, nothing is 100% fool proof.

Give me a pill to treat it vs a vaccine to prevent it any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Needless to say, I've changed my mind on this; the vaccine business is much more profitable than the pill business.................and sorry, to me that's what this is all about the more I think about it.

I pushed some old ladies out of the way to get to the front of the line while yelling "it's every man for himself and you are all doomed anyway!" LOL. It's a total FUBAR here in PA as well. I have a health condition that qualifies under the new guidelines and was just fortunate to find a local pharmacy in the middle of nowhere that had appointments. There were about three people in line. Took me much longer to drive there than get the vaccine and I even did some grocery shopping while waiting to see if the vaccine was going to finish me off. My advice is to get the vaccine as soon as possible no matter how healthy you think you are. There are a lot of sick and dead people who are very surprised to be in that condition.

It's a total mess here in MA, I'd much rather have my 88 year old Mother go to a pharmacy or her doctors office to get it vs schlepping to Gillette stadium..............

We'll see.

I'll get it when it becomes available but only under some medical location. I'm not going to wait in line in my car and have some unknown jab me with a needle and tell me to move on.

Texas is going to allow pharmacies like CVS to administer the vaccine amongst the second tier of people who qualify.

I go to CVS once a week for an array of diabetic prescriptions, insulin, needles etc. As such I have built up a great rapport with the pharmacists as well as the pharmaceutical staff.

If I can trust them to dole out the meds that literally keep me alive I can trust them to give me a vaccine.

Kentucky has teamed with Kroger supermarkets to help administer the vaccine. BUT, due to the special freezer rqts, only one location in Kentucky to my knowledge has been designated to date. Maybe more will be added later but this doesn't seem to be much help.

Hope you are able to get the vaccine soon Jason. I was able to get the first dose at the VA hospital. Chris

Jason...
agree with that...
their pharmacists are trained to give shots...
I have gotten my regular yearly influenza shot from them for years and years...
no worries with their knowledge and protocol...
you would be in good hands with them...
