East coast storm (1 Viewer)

We might get another 2-5 inches tonight! It has warmed up, though.

Here are the views from my kitchen window and my front door:

We got 19 inches from around 10:30 PM Wednesday through around 3AM today. It's pretty, and for me, I'm glad that I can work online from home, and don't have to drive in it.

It's clouding up again now. The forecast is for a snow shower tonight. One forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches, another calls for 3 to 5. And there is a possibility of snow again tomorrow.

Good old-fashioned Pennsylvania winter!

Prost!

I know a lot of other areas have been hit worse than us but the constant wetness and the biting cold is wearing me down and I'm one who likes cool weather.
Mark

Couldn't agree more Mark, I too like the cooler weather, but enough is enough with this cold, wind, snow, sleet and everything else.

Earlier today I unloaded the van I just packed on Wednesday for Annandale, what a project trying to push a dolley loaded with boxes across an icy, slushy parking lot, unreal.........

I'm hunkered down, maybe through Sunday. After I'm done working today, time for soup, beer, and resuming a "Band of Brothers" marathon. And some bench time, too.

Prost!

After 80 plus degree in Southern California for the past week we returned home last night to more snow. I had parked on the top level of the parking garage at Newark Airport and was expecting the car to be covered. Somehow it was not. I don't know if it had been blown off or melted but was pleasantly surprised.

When we got home, I saw that the plowman had done his work so the driveway was clear. Of course, he had to push the snow somewhere and I haven't seen that much snow I'm god knows when. At the bottom of our driveway is our satellite dish, which, due to the line of vision it needs, can't go on the roof. You could barely see it. We probably got 12 to 14 inches on Thursday.

More expected Tuesday I hear.
Mark

Yeah, apparently the forecast has been updated, pushing the next snowfall from Monday night into Tuesday morning. We've also got a local forecast here for a possible flurry yet tonight.

Oh, well, we'll just pile it on top of the other snow...

Prost!

We average about 44 inches on snow per year here in MA; so far this winter, we're up to 55 inches with more expected tomorrow night.

New York averages 26 inches, Phily 25; so far, both are up over 55 inches.

We could use all of that snow in Cali, I think this is the worst drought here since the dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Toronto averages 48" a year - I don't know how much we got so far but likely more than that already and 6" coming tonight. And Toronto gets the least snow in Ontario and Quebec with many places getting an average of 100 - 120" per year. This really is the Great White North.

Well good news. Today is the last really cold day for a while. It's supposed to get to freezing tomorrow and stay slightly above freezing for a whole week before temperatures dip again. {sm3}

I think we're almost at 70" for the winter at this point, here in the Lehigh Valley. We got another 3" of a light, powdery snow from around midnight through 6:30 this morning. And after the past storms, most people now seem to have remembered their snow driving skills and take it in stride. Biggest problems are where to go with any new snow, because we're running out of room to put it, and where will all the water go, when Spring arrives and everything starts to thaw.

Prost!

We need all of that and more, San Francisco is at 20% of normal for precipitation/rainfall.

Its going to be 45 degrees today, 55 degrees tomorrow and 51 degrees Friday and rain for the next two days according to the weather report (which means it will probably be 12 degrees and sunny), if true, you should send some tanker trucks, we will have water to spare between the melting snow and rain!:rolleyes2:

There was a story in today's Times about NJ having run out of salt and not being able to get more due to an old federal act. International Salt supplies the state with salt and notified the state that there was supply in Maine. NJ arranged to have it shipped down but ran into a problem. Under the Jones Act, dating from the 1920s, any marine shipment of goods within the United States may be only transported by ships with US flags and crews.

The Jones Act was enacted by Senator Wesley Jones of Washington, who warned that foreign nations would use “fair means and foul” to keep America from taking a leading role in the global shipping trade. The law has prompted debate over the years, with opponents painting it as anti-competitive and a boon for unions while supporters still see it as vital to national security.

NJ requested a waiver, which are hard to get, from the Department of Homeland Security, which has not yet acted. State officials tried to work around the Act's requirements by arranging for a barge to bring a portion of the salt but a storm forced it to seek shelter in Rhode Island due to -- get this -- a winter storm!

The supplier should soon be stocking the state with its normal supply at Port Newark and the weather will be a bit warmer for a few days, making this episode just an interesting sidelight.

Mid-40s here but they cancelled school because of the freezing rain! The kids may never get out this summer with all the make up days. I thought winter was kaput after the last storm but after the brief warm up this week they are calling for some more snow and cold next week.

Louis:

You guys have too much and we don't have enough.

False hope this week. It's been sunny and warmer. I think most people believe winter is done, but the weather forecast for next week is awful. More snow and even single digit temps! That's going to be brutal.

If it's not one thing, it's another. We're supposed to get heavy rain, thunderstorms, high/dangerous winds. Did the earth tip of it's axis without anyone noticing?:wink2: -- Al

We have a lot of melting going on and where the garage meets the driveway is like a river!
