Jenkins Model Pic (1 Viewer)

Terrific detail. Back in my youth I attempted a model of this aircraft, the rigging drove me crazy, unbelievably difficult to glue struts tight and make them hold. Partly why I gave up on modelling and started buying pre-built items. I have a friend that builds large sailing ship models, complete with string type rigging for the sails etc. They cost a fortune but he's a retired teacher and no doubt has developed more patience than me ^&grin

Matt,

Jenkins had the DH.2 in the works for several years. I don't think that he could get the model where he wanted it at the original price-point of his model planes, $180-$230. When the model was finally released, it was priced at the absolute limit of many collector's sensibilities regarding cost, about $300 USD. Nonetheless, the Lanoe Hawker version all but evaporated from dealer inventories. I'm certainly proud to have one in my collection, as I consider it something of a work of art.

Jenkins did a great job on that awesome looking model, well worth the price, would cost even more in Australia with the conversion rate. The labor cost to fit those struts on a model would be high, I guess they used actual wire which would have been easier than the cotton thread I tried. I made such a mess on my model with glue everywhere that I threw it in the bin. Not many options for modelers back in those days. I remember my older brother painting his F-111 model jet bright Red for some reason. It did look good for a while but as he used spray paint meant for cars the solvent kinda melted the plastic. I thought it very funny at the time, him, not so much ^&grin

Thanks Mike,:D

Anything that keeps me out of the General Discussion Forum has to be looked upon as positive! ;)

"Do you still remember me?"

The Kempf triplane was my first Jenkins' model...or anything else for that matter. I didn't realized it at the time, but I may have purchased the last one to be had via a dealer. Today, the set is darned hard to find!

I sometimes wonder why I bother engaging some discussions there, I suspect I still believe I can educate people. The evidence over many years is that I've made little difference on or off the forum. I've found the less intelligent people are, the more convinced they are correct. The most peculiar example was when I tried to convince a teacher at a local Catholic school that Humans did not actually exist at the time Dinosaurs ruled the earth. She wouldn't believe me, Religion, and the Flintstones, have a lot to answer for ^&grin

People believe only what they want to hear. That's the only explanation to our crazy world.

I've tried to do at least one presentation-quality image for each of Jenkins' plane types.

Here's one of his Spitfire IX:
