The man that was attacked trying to put out a fire has died!

Also a mother has just handed her daughter over to the police, she recogrised her on t.v. Apparently she was going to be a "meet and greet" ambasador at the olympic games!

They've just been interviewing one 15 year old morron that said he was only stealing because of his baby! Another generation of scum.

My fave so far is the girl who said she was smashing a window with a metal bar because she wanted the Police to arrest her because she wanted out of the riot!

What I'm enjoying and is coming as a great shock to all those charged is the fact that they are all being remanded in custody and not released on bail. So plenty of these people losing jobs, money etc.

Best news of the day though is that they've got a suspect for the murder of the guy who tried to put out a fire in his street and was beaten to death.

If he does, lets hope he has plenty of rubber bullets:wink2:

Actually, I was thinking of something more like a flaming sword. You know, a bit of class. And, reversing an old expression, I'd also like it to read, "Angels rush in where fools fear to tread." Years ago, I had a second cousin by marriage whose father swore up & down that he really did see the Angel of Mons in 1914. Where is he when you need him?^&grin{eek3}^&grin

Any other time you would think the people who beat this guy to death would not face an appropriate sentence but, given the climate surrounding this I would expect the sentence will fit the crime for once and, I say about time!!!

You do have to wonder at the mentality of some of them don't you. If this person is found guilty he has just thrown his life away, and for what?

Another woman told the judge that if she was remanded in custody she'd lose her house and job. The judge said something along the lines of ' and your point is?' and remanded her. Some people really think they can go out and steal, burn, assault and riot and yet have this indignation and incredulity when punished.

Doff my cap to the Police and courts, they are doing a fine job.

I think they have this notion that what they were doing was not really criminal!!! and, just a bit of a laugh!!! I am extremaly happy that they courts are doing what we all have wanted for years.... not listening to the bleeding hearts and tales of woe that are constantly spouted out when these scumbags get caught.

It strikes me that a couple of Britains famous Lancer regiments would be the perfect tool for crowd control in these situations. -- Al

Haven't heard much from Pommyland lately. What's the latest over there you guys? Has everything settled down?

You take pleasure in this?

Do you think that thousands of these people losing their jobs, homes and money is actually going to reduce their propensity to riot and commit crimes in the future? Because that should be the objective, should it not? In this thread I read much discussion of superficial bandaid police tactics and little discussion of true underlying causes for why so many young people in our Western societies are now a) unemployed b) angry c) morally nihilistic d) without hope for the future.

Well I guess we know who you think the victims are in the riots.

Our governments seem to have no problem automatically siding with the rioters in Egypt, Libya, Syria, and every other Middle Eastern, Asian and otherwise foreign country, where we assume the rioters are victims who have rightful grievances and that the riots are symptoms of fundamental problems with the social/economic/political order of those countries. Should we abandon all critical thought and analysis when it comes to examining riots in Western capitalist countries?

I am from Liverpool UK originally and Smithdown Road where the rioting just took place is where my Grandfather lived.

One of my course mates in the Royal Hong Kong Police (an ex UK cop) returned to the UK police and ending up facing rioters in Toxteth, Liverpool, with a shield and baton. After that experience he left the UK police a 2nd time and returned to Hong Kong.

Would love to engage in chit chat but I think you can pretty much see my thoughts on the matter from my previous posts.

Regards
Brett
