my picks for tommorows games

Colts over jets in a close one

vikings over saints.

Farve wins his 2nd superbowl in 2 weeks

Although I'm a fan, I have to agree with Sammy on the Jets game. It will be close. The Colts have played a lot of close games so it really could go either way.

However, come what may, the Jets will be strong for years to come.

Saints to win big. Vikes have no running game and Saints too many weapons plus the home crowd.

In the big one, Manning gets his second and reserves a spot in Canton.

This game reminds me of the game between the Colts and the Pats a few years ago; once Manning gets up a head of steam, forget it.

Plus, that td at the end of the first half was huge. I knew that would be a game changer. Seen it too many times.

I'm a Giants fan, so I am glad the Colts won, but Jets fans, take solace. Your rookie quaterback Sanchez played awesome, and I firmly believe that you will be back in the AFC Championship again within the next year or two. What killed you was your number 2 starting corner going down to injury a couple of series before halftime. Up until he was injured, your team was bending but not breaking. Once he was gone, and your nickel corner was starting, Manning, who had his best ever playoff performance, killed you passing to his second and third wide receivers, Austin Colley and Pierre Garcon. Until the last drive, your defense took Clark out of the game, and Reggie Wayne did very little. It also didn't help that right when you started to wear down the defense with the run in the first series of the second half, your starting running back went down with a rib injury. You definitely didn't embarass yourselves, like most 9-7 teams do in the playoffs. One thing though, as good as Peyton Manning can be (and was today), your coaches really failed on the halftime adjustments. Ryan needs to work on that next season.

Sanchez played lights out today. Injuries were a killer for the Jets. I do think they went overly conservative once they got up. Sanchez was throwing a laser beam. They should have let him go long a few more times. No way you beat the Colts sitting on 17 points.

This shows why Favre will never be considered a great qb, certainly not there with Manning, Brady, etc.

Injuries hurt but they made the half time adjustments; it just didn't do anything. After the game Rex said the Jets tried man coverage, two-man coverage, zone coverage — “We tried you-name-it coverage.” Manning got going and that was it.

Nice of you to root for your city :(

I have rarely seen a team shoot itself in the foot more than the Vikings did today. Playing on the road, they were clearly by far the better team, but 6 fumbles, two inside the Saints 10, and one recovered inside their own 10, two interceptions, plus an incredibly stupid and undisciplined 12 men in the huddle penalty to take them out of field goal range with 16 seconds left, and they still only lost in overtime.

By the way, is it me, or was the fix in in the overtime? The review 3 of 8 plays, but every single call goes in favor of the Saints. The last time I checked, it doesn't matter if you had the first down before you fumbled, it matters where you recover the fumble (and the Saints player fumbled on the 4th down carry where he barely edged it over the first down, and recovered in the air a couple of feet back). Not to mention the fact that the reverse angle clearly showed that the pass that took them into field goal range came loose and moved when the receiver hit the ground. Add to that a pass interference call on a ball that a 12 foot tall guy couldn't have caught, and I really had to wonder if the officials weren't told that the Saints needed to finally get to a their first Superbowl after 43 years of existence.

Well, on records, the two best are in. Liked both games and thought Sanchez did a really fine job. Peyton was just a little finer. Favre had a shot at winning, but self-detructed. All he had to do was fall down and let his kicker have a shot, albiet a long one. Should be an outstanding and wide open offensive show in the SB. Go Colts. -- lancer

Couldn't agree more with all of these points. Sorry Aints fans, that was NOT a first down, the ball never crossed the LOS as the defender got his helmet in there and knocked the ball back, it was not even close.

Also, that was not a catch, the ball hit the ground. No way, no how.

The NFL booth review system sucks; 90% of the time, they go with the ruling on the field, show some stones and overturn the call, too bad if you feel like you are showing up the refs.

The better team lost today in the Vikings, but Favre, aka, the gun slinger, blew the game with that bone headed across the body throw.

And the Jets; well, they're still the Jets, God love them, 3 AFCCG's in the last 40 years and nothing to show for it, maybe next year, I'm sure all the mediots will annoit them the odds on 2010 AFCE Champions now.

The Dolts will demolish the Aints....................

Wow...that's a pretty harsh statement...

"Considered" by whom...

I think he is already considered one of the greatest quarterbacks ever...

a definite Hall of Famer...

what do you have to be held in the prestigious group of Manning and Brady:rolleyes:...

that 40 year old man got pounded today and never missed a play...

I went to his website after I read your comment...I already loved him and even I was impressed when I read his stats...

his list of accolades and records broken is just too long to print...

A select few...

he is the NFL's winningest quarterback ever...

From 1992-2004, won at least eight games an NFL-record 13 consecutive seasons, substantially better than the next closest player, Ken Stabler, who had eight straight .500-or-better seasons from 1973-80

Rebounding in 2006 and '07, finished without a losing record in 15 of his 16 years as the Packers' starter, having entered the season's final weekend in playoff contention for all but one campaign

Also led the Packers to an NFL-best 160-93 record since taking over as the starter in the fourth week of the 1992 season

His record as a leader consists of 11 playoff berths, including a club-record six in a row (1993-98), three straight NFC Central Division crowns (1995-97), four NFC North Division titles, including three in a row (2002-04, '07), four NFC Championship games, also including three straight (1995-97, '07) and back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, including a 35-21 victory over New England in Super Bowl XXXI, returning the Lombardi Trophy to Green Bay for the first time in 29 years

Upon defeating Chicago in December of 2000, became the third-fastest player in the NFL since 1970 to reach 100 regular-season victories, doing so in his 153rd career start; only Joe Montana (139) and Terry Bradshaw (147) got to the century mark quicker over the past 37 seasons

Since his first year as a starter in 1992, held a 49-18 record (.731) in regular-season games in December, the fourth-best mark among NFL starters who began their careers post-1970 (min. 20 starts); Brady (.867, 26-4), Joe Theismann (.773, 17-5) and Montana (.767, 33-10) rank just ahead in December winning percentage

Owns 40 career fourth-quarter or overtime comebacks (which includes three postseason contests)

A game conductor of the highest caliber, led the Packers to a nearly perfect 56-2 regular-season record since 1992 in games where they had more rushing attempts than passing attempts.

I have always considered him a "great" quarterback...

Winner winner, chicken dinner...

ps...he has won 3 MVP's...somebody thinks he's pretty good...

Nice stats and all Mike but he's a gunslinger who has made some boneheaded decisions and thrown some untimely interceptions at times. Today has to rank up there as one of the stupidest decisions I've seen in sports. Would Montana, Manning, Brady, heck, almost any quarterback in that situation made a dumb decision like that? I think not. That's what separates him from the likes of the elite.

I'm not going to argue sports, politics or religion with you...

you shouldn't hinge your opinion on one play...

the man is a winner...he is one of the top at the list of elites...

you can pin names (gunslinger) on him...even hate on him...

but you can't dispute the facts...

go to any NFL stat page on quarterbacks and his name will dominate almost all the categories...

over 180 wins...

I can't make you like him...

but I can give you over 180 reasons that prove my point...

Mike,

I can see you're a big fan of his and that's your right. I think he's a good qb not just a great one and I'm sure he will get into Canton one day. His mistake yesterday may haunt him for many years however.

Wish I had written that. Very disappointed the Vikings didn't win. Totally agree with your assessment of the game and the reviews of the 3 plays in overtime - they were all home field calls. :(

It was the 12 men in the huddle penalty that cost them. After that they are out of FG range. It doesn't make much difference whether Favre throws an incompletion or INT at that point. He is trying to make a play to give them a reasonable shot at the FG. Even if it is not picked, the next play is 4th down and the Vikes are left with a 55+ FG they probably have no chance to make. I'm not a Favre fan by any means, but he took a lot hits in this game and kept coming back. He gave them a chance to win, but his team gave it up with bonehead turnovers and penalties. The 12 men in the huddle penalty was as huge and pointless a screwup as any I can remember. Just a brutal mistake. Without that they run the ball on third down and get a FG chance inside 50 yds.

I am with you Mike. I have never been a fan of his teams but he has always been impressive. He has consistently been one of the elite players that can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and he has made some incredible throws this season (his 40th:eek: ). I must say that to blame the loss on him is just not fair; the whole team needed to have fewer mistakes and they didn't. I also think they are the better team but they didn't play up to their potential yesterday and that is that. That last throw was either going to win the game for them of leave them in the tie that the prior 12 man mistake had stuck them with. The interception was irrelevant. As for throwing accross the body; well, he has been doing that his whole career and they often end up as game winning plays. Perhaps he made the last Viking mistake but he is also a major reason why they reached this game. His performance against Dallas was truly inspiring. I sure wish the Skins had had him for the last 10 years. Let's just see how good Brady and Manning look at 40?;)

I'm really not a big fan of his at all...no more than I like or dislike Brady, Manning, Bradshaw, Montana or any NFL quarterback...

I probably have 10 Dallas Cowboy hats and 1 Dallas Cowboy NFL jersey (Ware) in my closet...

I was born in Dallas and went to SMU...

Silver and blue....the Dallas Star...I'm a Cowboys fan win or lose...

You're absolutely right Brad...

Favre will have that play haunt him for many years...

but...

I don't care if he threw 12 interceptions yesterday...

I still think he is a great quarterbacks...

you shouldn't base your ranking him with Manning and Brady on one play...

Brady was home watching the game on his big screen...thinking about next year...

without all the fumbles yesterday...

two of them in the red zone...

we wouldn't even be having this conversation...

Minnesota would have won...they were the better team yesterday...

the score just doesn't reflect it...

Favre has made his bones...

he will make the Hall of Fame first year nominated...no question...

love him or hate him...in my opinion...

he's one of the great ones.

The Vikings should have won that game by 14 to 17 points in a walk, then that INT would not even have come into play.

They were by far the better team.

If Brees plays like that in two weeks, the Colts will win by three touchdowns; the only chance the Aints have is to win the turnover battle like they did yesterday and get into a track meet with the Colts, they are the one team that can stay with them in a shootout.

Otherwise they are toast.
