UK loses by 8 to a bad Tenn team after being up by 14. MD loses to unranked Rutgers. Say goodbye to a 2 seed for both teams.:rolleyes2:. Chris
Shocked by both losses. Watched the Wildcats build that lead then switched over to something else, thinking the game won. The Terps doomed themselves with ANOTHER terrible start. Typical late season troubles for the Terps. Turgeon just can't seem to inspire. Terps seem to have run out of gas at the worst time. -- Al

Not going to lie, I've barely paid attention to NCAA men's basketball this year.

I just got a notification that the pool I am in every year is going to go live soon, so I took a look at the rankings?

Kansas is #1, followed by Gonzaga (that school is a basketball factory), Dayton...….

Ok, I had to stop; the Dayon Flyers are #3 in the country?

Then Baylor, San Diego State, Kentucky, FSU, Seton Hall, Maryland and Louisville round out the top ten.

Wow, ok then.

Duke is 12th, Michigan state is 17th, North Carolina is in the toilet, Virginia is 22nd.

College basketball is not the sport I remember it being thanks to their foolish one year and out policy, how is any team supposed to thrive, you have to constantly restock the shelves, it's a joke really to be honest.

I'll fill out my brackets and pick with my heart and not my head as I've done the past few years, so I'll pencil Kentucky in as the champs.

Hey if UConn could win it a few years ago out of nowhere, why not?

There's a story on the internet and mentioned on last night's UK game about Jackson State. They had the student mgr of the last 4 yrs suit up for senior night. His nick name is Snacks, befitting someone of "extra large" proportions. State was up by 20 with a minute to go and sent Snacks into the game and the crowd roared. He scored a 3 pointer from about 25 feet and the crowd went crazy. Nice story. Chris

Snacks was named conference player of the week.:salute:: Chris

Another great story from the other night out of the University of Vermont and a player named Josh Speidel (from NECN):

Speidel was a top basketball recruit for Vermont, but before graduating high school in 2015, a near-fatal car wreck left him with a traumatic brain injury.

At first, doctors thought he'd be in a nursing home the rest of his life, struggling even to read.

Vermont and Coach John Becker honored his scholarship despite the fact that it appeared he would never play basketball again.

With a lot of physical therapy, the 6'7" Indiana native made it to campus. He became a fixture at Patrick Gym, cheering for the Catamounts — who never treated him as anything but a full-fledged teammate.

Speidel will graduate in May, despite lingering physical challenges like a tremor in his arm.

Here's how that dramatic moment went down: The Cats let their opponents from Albany win possession at tip-off and score an uncontested basket.
In return, Albany then let UVM have the ball, so Speidel could make the layup he's still pinching himself over.

"Best two points I've ever scored," Speidel said Wednesday

Rivals and teammates alike joined the celebration, to thunderous applause.

Saw this on the news last night.

Sports needs more stories like this vs the daily slog about where Tom Brady is going to land to make another 60 million dollars, like I give two ****s about him at this point.

Do me a solid and take your soon to be 43 year old talents elsewhere and go play for the Raiders/Titans/Chargers/49ers/whoever. It will never happen, but it would be beyond hysterical if he ended up on the Rams, "Shady Brady" and all that.

Thanks for the championships and all that, but enough already.

Good for that kid, a memory he'll always cherish.

Life can be cruel sometimes needless to say.

Great post.

I am as guilty of getting caught up in sports and “my” teams. Sometimes it takes a story like this to put it all back in perspective.

Sports are great, but life is more important.

The Kentucky Florida game yesterday was one of the best games I have seen all year.

My comment to my son exactly. Come back from down 18 without starting point guard and 2 gd fouled out with 9 min to go. I had given up but UK effectively shut down Florida. Chris

It was one of those games that exemplifies why I love college basketball.

Florida looked like they were going to run away with it but Kentucky didn’t quit and fought hard down to the last second to win it.

NCAA tournament to be played without fans. More to come I'm sure. Chris

Unfortunately, the tournament has been cancelled. No sports for the foreseeable future isn’t going to be easy.

UM, a 10 seed, dominated 7 seeded UConn and beat them 63-54. Terps let the Huskies creep back into the game in the last few minutes with dumb turnovers and ill advised fouls. Fortunately, UConn couldn't make their FTs. Turnovers have been the bane of UM ever since I can remember. Terps face a very good Alabama next.

N Texas is an early Cinderella.

Turnovers, the mascot of the UMd B-ball. Rearing it's ugly head every game since 1969.:wink2: Chris, having seen a few UMd games this year, I fully expected UConn to win this game. After UMd had a 14 point lead against PSU with 10 minutes left in the game, and managed to lose by 6, I figured more of the same old ****e. Pleased to be wrong but Bama is good. Road probably ends there, but at least they got in and won a game. On another note, the mighty ACC is sputtering big time at 1-4. -- Al

The glass slipper didn't quite fit and has been handed to Loyola Chicago. Oral Roberts also making a claim as only the second 15th seeded team to make the Sweet 16.

I also expect UM's season to end tonight. :rolleyes2: Chris

Minnesota fired Richard Pitino, Rick Pitino's son, after 8 poor seasons. Never finished above 10th in the Big Ten and 14/15 this yr. Lost 11 of their last 14 games. New Mexico hired him the next day. Why? ^&confuse Chris

His last name is Pitino.

Turned off the um ALabama game with 9 minutes to go and down 20. Was about what I expected. Alabama rained 3 pointers. That's not a fluke, they do that every game. Think they take UCLA enroute to Final Four. Chris

UMd just outmanned, getting slaughtered on the boards and from 3-point range. The rebounding was a real issue in the last 2 games for the Terps. UConn and Bama outrebounded UMd 80-48 overall, and the offensive rebound stat was very much worse, with UMd being beaten 37-8 over the 2 games. That's a lot of second chance points to give the opposition. Can't win if you can't rebound. -- Al
