NCAA Basketball (2 Viewers)

A bit of NCAA hoops trivia...while Northwestern may not have ever made it to the Big Dance, they are a part of tournament history!

From Wiki...

The 1939 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament involved 8 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. It was the first NCAA basketball national championship tournament. It began on March 17, 1939, and ended with the championship game on March 27 on Northwestern University's campus in Evanston, Illinois.

I've played on that very floor ^&grin

So I guess that means it's about a 73 year drought...ouch!

First ACC roadwin of the season for MD. 64-62 over Clemson.

And UK beats a good Florida team at home by 20. Go Cats, go Terps! Chris

Wildcats looking real good. Made Florida look bad. Terps once again threw away a big lead but managed to hold on. Will be glad when they learn how to finish a game when they get a big lead. This current habit is hard on my nerves.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Duke wins in OT at Chapel Hill. Went to bed with NC up by 9. Where are the Tarheels when you need them? Chris

Chris, I watched the end of this game and it was typical ACC insanity. Watched Duke do to NC what NC has done to so many others, including the Terps on several occasions. NC was up by 10 with 2 minutes left. After a couple of 3pt FG's and such, NC was left with a 2 point lead with about 8 seconds left and Duke with the ball. Duke brought it down and launched a 3pt bomb with about 3 tenths of a second left that went through the ring with 0.00 on the clock, leaving Duke with a 1 point win. Just another night in the ACC. -- Al

I saw the last three minutes of that game when NC was up by a dozen and Duke started raining threes. The reaction of the UNC crowd as the game was classic: stunned disbelief.

Don't know why I didn't record this one. Should'a known better... Oh, and you know who we play next. Chris

MD-Duke at 4pm :redface2: Plan to watch it, at least for a while. UK plays Vanderbilt at 9pm, which the press is pretending to be something of a challenge. Murray St lost first game. They will still be in top 25 but OVC has never had two teams in the NCAA tournament so they may have to win conference tournament to get in. Chris

Unfortunately, I agree.. Murray State will have to win their tourney to get in.. IF they win out and lose in the tourney there's a slight chance they would get in..

Watch, with that loss they'll drop like a rock in the rankings

Yeah, the talking heads were already mentioning RPI, etc. But they came back with a win today. :smile2:

Vanderbilt played UK tough but the Cats held them scoreless in the last 4 min. Anthony Davis shut them down with like four blocks in last couple of min. He had seven for the game. UK wins by 6.

MD flamed out in second half. They can't hang with Duke for a whole game yet. Chris

Hi Chris. The following isn't b-ball, but it is UMD. Edsall has now lost his Qb, O'Brien, and his two starting O tackles. All are transferring. Brings total of players that have chosen the highway to his way to 24. O'Brien is a big loss, leaving the Terps with only 1 experienced Qb. I smell turtle burning. -- Al

Hi Al. Bad news about O'Brien but can't say I blame him. The whole team is in turmoil. Chris

MD blown out by VA, 71-44. Mosley 2 pts and Stoglin 0-7 in second half. MD scored 13 pts in second half. {eek3} Howard is out for rest of the season, no loss there. Mosely said "there's a lot more basketball to play" after the game. What team is he talking about? MD has four regular season games left and one ACC tournament game. Oh well, there's always football to look fwd to. :redface2: Chris

It was great to see Murray State on ESPN yesterday (not ESPN 2 or 3 or ESPNU), with Dickie V. working the game.. And how about Isaiah Cannan? Nice to see the Racers bounce back with a couple of nice wins after their first loss.

Very convincing win for the Racers on nat'l tv. Chris

HUGE game for Northwestern tonight. If we can pick off Michigan (who should be coming down from their Ohio State upset) then we are in the driver's seat for an NCAA bid...the FIRST EVER. Any team finishing 9-9 in the Big 10 should be in...

THat would be a big win in their resume for the tournament. Chris

Chris, watched UMd shoot like crap, AGAIN, and lose to lowly GT today. Was quite disappointed in this loss. Thought it would be a sure win. Oh well, NEXT! -- Al

Missed (not sure that's the correct word) that one. UK still on a roll. :smile2:

Glad to see you're back up on the web Al. Chris
