NCAA Football 2019 (2 Viewers)

Losing to fellow SEC powerhouse Bama is hardly embarrassing. Losing to a PAC 12 or Big 10 school, now that’s shameful.

When USC becomes relevant in football again, do let us know. If not for being the alma mater of OJ Simpson, few would even know they have a football team.

NCAA Championships:
USC 11
Georgia 2

Heisman Trophies:
USC 7
Georgia 2

NFL Hall of famers:
USC 13
Georgia 4

NFL First Round Picks:
USC 82
Georgia 28

Head to head: USC 3-0

FSU holds on to win against #5 North Carolina. Flashes of brilliance hopefully that is good news for future. On a side note, Mack Brown is FSU Alumni and is now 0 and 10 against FSU when coaching the opposing team, he has yet to beat his alma mater. Interesting stat, I always thought maybe he would end up back at FSU as a coach, but the stars have never aligned.

Once upon a time, hoss, once upon a time. USC is a has been, never will be again. Rest on those laurels, it’s all you got and all you’ll ever have.

I can't believe I'm coming to the aid of a USC fan since my school is ND. The pack 12 and big 10 comment is a bit ridiculous as well. But when it comes to schools I think combat has already proven his point. The statistics speak volumes. In fact it isn't even really close. Number of National Championships, Hall of Famers and Heisman Trophy winners its not even close my friend. When I think of storied progams USC comes to mind well before Georgia. USC will return to dominance again maybe not now, tomorrow or 5 years from now but trust me they will be back.
Oh and Before you go off on ND just know I in no way think ND is a #3 team. They need to prove alot more then what they have been showing. Especially after that Louisville game. But we can throw up GA and ND stats as well for fun ^&grin

The local health department has issued an immediate stay in place order for all University of Michigan undergraduate students due to a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases.

However the order does not apply to the football team that is traveling to play at Minnesota Saturday.

Wait, what?

The Big 10 starts it's abbreviated schedule today. Going to check on the Terps for sure but not much else outside of Navy, Army, and Bama. Going to be interesting to see what the Terps and the rest of the Big 10 look like getting such a late start. -- Al

Al,
Terps still suck. And I am sorry as you know my feelings, I can't help but smile at some points. I am not even going to start on my feelings on the time spent on the Jersey Names. Maybe if they spent more time focusing on football, they would not have gotten BLOWN OUT. I am predicting an Ofer season for them and in my opinion they continue to deserve it year in and year out. Ever since that fateful decision on Ralph F. , they have lost all alumni support, both Randy White and Boomer Esiason have not been back and have been vocal about it. I have very personal viewpoints on that program, it is a broken toilet and will be for some time as they continue to make crap decisions resulting in chaos and crap recruiting that will take years to undo. But they are more worried about what they are putting on their jerseys.

Noles - GDMT. All I can say, the product on the field is an embarrassment.

Tom, you've touched on some of the reasons why as a UM grad of many yrs ago I've given up on the Terps. Not watched a game in some time. It was just time spent in frustration. Chris

Boy, Tom and Chris, you really have hit on my frustrations with the Terps. How can a school of such size and importance to our region be such a complete and utter f-ing disaster for so long? I was sitting, watching the 'game', laughing, fuming, shaking my head and praying for the return of Claiborne, Ross, or Friedgen and just wondering how this had all happened. It's a freakin' disgrace and it's no wonder that the alumni want nothing to do with returning to UMd and having to deal with the university. It's just sad. UMd never seems to learn from it's past errors. -- Al

Some schools are football programs and some schools are basketball programs. The Terps fall into the latter. My USC Trojans sit in the heart of basketball talent but have never been able to field a decent basketball team. They even built a brand new facility but the struggles continue. It just doesn't seem to be in the cards.

Well, 16 yrs of Debbie Yow comes to mind.

I can speak personally on this but will not do so in public other than to say I agree!

Doug - basketball school, maybe but if you want to trace the Terp disgrace, it actually goes unfortunately back to the tragedy surround Len Bias. Maryland was flying high in both Basketball and Football at the time. Bobby Ross was the coach and a whole heaping of 1st Grade and Class assistants surrounded him. They were on the move both in recruiting and on field performance until........................BOOM Bias tragedy and the Titanic starting to sink. Next recruiting year for Football, Ross had 7 recruits who he could not get University exceptions for (at that time, every school had exceptions they could use to their normal admittance procedures that were in line with the NCAA). Guess where those 7 recruits ended up - if memory serves - 4 went to University of Virginia, 2 to University of North Carolina, 1 to Notre Dame and 1 out west (maybe UCLA, I cant remember). Of those 7, I do believe they all were college impact players and few went pro, I don't remember necessarily a superstar in that 7 but you get the point. Maryland administratively did a 180 b/c they were scared of the repercussions and spotlight from the Bias tragedy. Left (B Ball coach) was the first casualty, then Ross quit in frustration. For the next decade plus, again, administratively the Football program was mired by handcuffs and thus the resulting mediocrity which continued year in year out. Finally, the fateful decision to join the Big 10, followed by crap coach decisions, out of control discipline, an avoidable tragedy resulting in a player death and you arrive to today - a broken toilet of a football program as I said before. In between all of this, you had the era of the Fridge where you had competitive and arguably championship football teams that appeared until the University administratively made more bad decisions - BROKEN.

SO, I would make an argument that had the administration acted appropriately and hired and kept the most decent coach they had and then turned it over to Franklin (Penn St head coach), they would be in a much different position then they are today. Also, staying in the ACC would have been a more prudent move in my mind. Alas, we are where we are today and will stay for some time.

I predict an OFER season again after reviewing the schedule and that will further degrade the program.

Bingo! How do you spell incompetence? Y...O...W! -- Al

The limited success of two programs has always perplexed me, Maryland and Rutgers. Both have great facilities, great academic reputations and fantastic talent in their own backyards.

Yeah, I've wondered if I could get in to UM today with my mediocre HS record and SAT scores. {eek3} Chris

Right there with you, Chris. My scores/grades were the very definition of mediocre. If it weren't for UMd's very low entrance standards for Md. residents back in the 70's, college wouldn't have been an option without a JC being involved. -- Al

I think both of you could still get in today, the only problem is you wouldn’t be able to go to any football games (at least until the BIG 10 allows fans).

Hah. I might get in, but I doubt it, and as to the Big 10, I was raised on the ACC, and that hasn't really changed. Still not into the Big 10. That move was a huge error from my POV. -- Al

YUUUP. In all seriousness, one of the issues about getting in that really burns me today is that MD was supposed and is a State University, it should be taking in 85% from Maryland (like other State schools are mandated) BUT IT IS NOT. It really is wrong IMO, they are actively courting out of state students in order to get more tuition, it is a well known fact and it doesn't sit well with me. They utilize our State dollars, but they prefer and cater to out of state. That is just wrong IMO and one of the many reasons I am not happy with my alma mater. Half jokingly I told my 16 year old that if that is his choice, I am not paying..........fortunately, it is not even on the list! (Part of me is sad at that but larger part is happy unfortunately)
