The one team that I hope makes it in is Oklahoma, mostly because of Jalen Hurts.

He handled everything in regards to his transfer from Alabama to Oklahoma with class and maturity. Not to mention the fact that he is electric on the field and worth watching.

I don't think the Sooners have the D to play with the other teams in the playoff. They looked downright awful a few times this year against lesser opponents. But stranger things have happened. There is decent chance that Utah loses to Oregon and Georgia probably loses to LSU. That would put them in.

Joe:

My point is that the schedules simply don't match up since none of those one loss teams played each other.

What they all had in common was one loss. Georgia's one loss was clearly the worst among the 3.

Alabama is now out with their second loss today.

It will be interesting to see what happens after next week's conference championship games.

Jason,

I see what you mean about the common thread of 1 loss each. Yet looking at the wins of each team, in this case, provides distinctive clarity IMHO.

I definitely understand that side of it as well.

Part of my perspective comes from the fact that a player/team can't control who they play or an opponent's record (especially within their conference), but they can control winning and losing.

Is there bigger fraud team than Utah?

They've played one ranked team this year prior to tonight.

That would be USC.

And they lost.

They are getting rolled right now 29 to 15.

If this score holds up, Oklahoma needs to beat Baylor tomorrow and then hope LSU beats Georgia and they are in.

If Georgia wins, they are in as is LSU even if they lose.

And that will make four teams (tOSU, Georgia, Clemson and LSU) that I could give a toss about.

Oregon is laying the wood to the Utes...………….37 to 15.

Again, what a fraud team, they are not the 5th best team in the country.

Not even close.

So if Georgia loses tomorrow, the Big 12 champion is the fourth team.

But if Georgia wins and tOSU loses, both LSU and tOSU still get in with one loss but no conference championship, while the Big 12 winner with one loss is out.

That seems unfair; if you lose your conference championship, how do you get in over someone who won theirs and both you and they have one loss?

The playoff system is still broken IMO.

There is not and never will be a perfect system. Nuance and subjective calls will always be with us. At least until the bots and algorithms take over. Then they’ll just plug in all the stats etc into a computer and it’ll spit out the winners and losers.

But ultimately the question is, is it possible the number 2 team in one Conference is better or more deserving of a spot than the Number 1 team of another Conference? If that number one team has a loss, the answer is clearly yes, philosophically. Heck, might even be true if the number one team has no losses but is in a relatively weak conference and or has a weak schedule.

USC beat Utah while SC had to play their third string QB. Utah played a soft schedule with the PAC being down in general. Losing to Oregon was the best thing that could have happened to them. They would have got rolled by 30 points or more by any of the other playoff teams (not unlike ND). Now they get a decent bowl that they might win.

If you lose your conference championship game, you have no business going over a team with the same record as you who won theirs.

End of story.

Rumor has it they are looking to expand the playoff to 8 teams...……….then the 9th team will whine they did not get in.

Sooners up 10-0; it's all on the defense, if they continue to play well, they got this...…..then it's up to LSU to beat Georgia.

I say they go to basketball format. Top 64 teams....

That logic presupposes all conferences #1 team is better than all the non #1 teams in the all.the other conferences.

Bama fans might argue that point.

A poster on another forum I belong to said if Georgia loses by less than 20 to LSU, they should go ahead of Oklahoma.

So a two loss non conference champion goes ahead of a one loss conference champion.

The Sooners hate is incredible, I don't it, what have they done to rile people up so much.

Their salty tears are wonderful.

Someone needs to tell Fromm Stingley plays for LSU.

Maybe if Georgia scores a TD AND keeps it within 20, they'll get in as the #4 seed.

The good news is that OK will get in. The bad news is they will get rolled by any of the other playoff teams. Ohio St. and LSU are a cut above everyone else. Clemson has an outside shot but no one else is playing on their level. At least Bama is done for once. Saban might be looking for the door but Lame Kiffin coming back to Ole Miss might be an incentive to stay on. I think Saban will enjoy kicking his backside for the foreseeable future. Coaching is a great profession. No matter how many times you fail or leave a program in ruins someone is willing to dole out millions to hire you. Kiffin is the poster boy.
