Nfl 2013 (2 Viewers)

Well, at least no sub-.500 or .500 pretenders made the playoffs this time, although Green Bay and San Diego are closest. Should be interesting playoff football. Problem is, none of my teams got in this year so I will have to tie my wagon to the 49ers, an old favorite, if not first choice. -- Al

I like my Niners chances.

Interesting note on playoff coaches, Harbaugh, Carroll and Kelly are all directly from the PAC-12.

Sammy, trust me, us not getting in is not half as much fun as listening to the local whiners on WBAL. You should check it out on the internet, I am throughly convinced that this one homer, Brett A., is going to need serious professional help over this season ending implosion. He is just aghast.

Man, I follow all of this in jest really, it is fun to watch, but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter, life goes on. I mean, we are talking about millionaires playing millionaires for a living!

TD

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out, the Monday morning QB's should be out in full force today, I suppose it will be all Flacco's fault, yet last year, they were ready to build a statue downtown for the guy as he got hot for three games and they won a Super Bowl.

On the play in OT where the Chargers running back fumbled and the Chiefs almost ran it back for a TD, then they said the guy was down, I can't believe that wasn't reviewed in the booth, what a joke.

And is Brett A that toolbox who made himself "famous" with his antics on YouTube last year when the Ravens beat the Broncos, "I can't take it, I can't take it" while his 5 year old daughter says "But daddy, they won the game"..........what a grade A moron.

Like you said, it's just a game, take it down a couple of notches.............

And I'm calling it now; the 8-7-1 Packers behind Rodgers are going to get hot and make a run

Just to hear the city of Baltimore and its fans commit collective suicide, I wish the Steelers had made the playoffs. Just to watch Tom beat up Sammy here would have been worth it! ^&grin

I agree reed about the Packers. If Rogers doesn't get hurt, they waltz to the playoffs anyway. I would be worried about going to Green Bay. They could conceivably get to Seattle where the football gods owe them a favor for last year's refereeing debacle.

Wow, 3 coaches fired already, no shocker with Shannahan but I liked Frazier in Minnesota he just needs a qb, maybe Flacco for Peterson?? :)..just kidding!!...Sammy

SAINTS are still alive,playing outdoors not a problem {eek3}
whats the bet mate ????

No bet here mate, as I believe the Saints will win next week but I do not believe the Saints will go any further then that...Sammy

Not even sure they'll win next week. They're average away from the Dome.

The Packers are good. The Niners are better.

So blood and guts Philbin and Rex Ryan did not get fired today; just amazing.

And Rex really is a genius, telling his players before the game he's sure he's getting fired, then he acts like a college coach out there yesterday jumping up and down, high fiving and hugging people, doing some razzle dazzle with a lineman pounding in a TD near the goal line like the Fridge did, showing the world he has a bag of tricks and is ready to use it.

He's an outstanding showman, I'll give him that, did he cry in the post game press conference too and say he's proud of his team........................P.T. Barnum would be proud.

So two 8-8 teams keep their coaches, ensuring yet another year of mediocre results in 2014.

George:

Well said. Meanwhile the guy in Cleveland gets a one and done ax job. Who would want that job? If you don't make the playoffs in your first year after the team went 5-11 you get fired. Real fair.

I'd rather coach the Raiders.

Teams like the Jets, Dolphins, Bills, Browns, Titans, Raiders, Cowboys, Vikings, Bucs, Jags, Rams, Lions, Redskins and Bears continue to flounder year after year when the league due to the salary cap is rigged to bring you back to the pack, they keep changing coaches, but the results continue to be the same.

It gets to the point where you feel sorry for the fans who continue to support these teams year after year.

Rumors are swirling that the Browns are after our OC McDaniels; like you said, you'd be crazy to go there.

I can't speak for the other teams but the perception is that the Jets have not been a good team since god knows when. That's not quite true. They have admittedly not gotten to the Super Bowl but since 1996 they have only had four losing season and gotten to the playoffs several times. Even the year they fired Mangini and brought in Rex, they were 9-7. They have not been like the re-born Browns, who have been simply awful.

The same applies to the Bears: since 2000, five losing seasons but one trip to the SB and one the NFC Title game. Not terrible and nothing like the Raiders or the Browns.

Most teams, except for those who have HOF QBs like Brady or Manning, have ups and downs.

Not to cry sour grapes here and trust me I am the first one to say that you make your own bed which the Steelers did, but have you seen the latest from the NFL? Apparently, on the field goal attempt, the NFL has admitted the Chargers should have been flagged for illegal formation, thus allowing KC to kick a 36yrd attempt, but it wasn't called. On top fo that, the Refs should have reviewed the fumble in OT again according to the NFL.

Not complaining b/c the Refs sucked all year, BUT,in the words the NFL show, CMON MAN??????? The NFL for all of their rules, still can't get any crucial call correct, it is ridonkulus. How the heck can you have instant replay and not use it and how the heck can you miss the illegal formation by the defense on a field goal attempt when it was changed this year and was supposed to be a focus?

Like I said, nothing to get worked up about, but wow, I hope the Chargers get whacked b/c they do not deserve to be there.

They 100% should have reviewed that fumble, that was pitiful, just like the refs have been pitiful all year long; the only time the refs made field goal attempts their focus was after the Jets complained to them that the Patriots were breaking the rules with the whole illegal pushing BS, that was the first, last and only time they called that horse@#$% penalty all year long, don't get me started on that.

They were talking on drive time talk radio today about how the Chargers could make some noise in the AFC playoffs, we'll see, all I can say is anyone penciling in Denver/Seattle hasn't been watching the NFL the past several years, cannot remember the last Super Bowl where the two #1's got there and faced each other, maybe Colts/Saints in 2010, it rarely happens.

George/Tom:

I could not agree more. The officiating this year has been pathetic. Every game I watched this year was full of blatant missed/bad calls. That Chiefs/Chargers game exemplified it.

Like I have said in previous posts my Niners have been the beneficiaries of some of those bad calls this year. On the surface I laugh to myself and smile with joy knowing we got the call. But I know on another level bad officiating is truly bad for the game as a whole.

Several sources have said the Giants will fire OC Gilbride, who's been with Coughlin since 1995 and if that happens, Coughlin will resign, opening the door for.................for...............wait for it..................wait..........none other than Bill Cowher.

Please God, make this happen.

Please.

The owner John Mara said he wants Coughlin and the GM back, who also wants Coughlin back so he's not going anywhere. However, Gilbride will likely be fired and there are some thoughts that Mike Sullivan who worked with Eli and then went to the Bucs and is now looking for a job will be back as the OC.

A coach who recently won a SB shouldn't be fired.

The only member of the Giants coaching staff that deserves to be fired is the special teams coordinator. The real incompetent behind the Giants 7-9 season was the GM, Reese. His draft choices have rarely panned out (JPP and Tuck are the only successful picks I can think of over the 7 years he has been picking, maybe Prince Amukamara who finally panned out this season, and he wasted a first round pick on fumbling machine David Wilson - 75% of his picks are no longer in football), his free agent signing have been, for the most part, expensive busts, particularly on the offensive line and at tight end (David Baas, Brandon Myers, Will Beatty) and he let a bunch of quality players sign elsewhere (Martellus Bennet, Osi Umenyiora, Chris Canty, Kenny Phillips, Domenik Hixon). Eli had one of his periodic terrible seasons, but about half of his turnovers resulted from the complete lack of pass protection and the inability of the tight end and running backs Reese saddled him with to catch anything. A good portion of the rest of his interceptions were caused by Hakeem Nicks' complete absence of effort (watch, Reese will resign him). He is the real problem, but there is no way they fire him.

I completely agree that the officiating was horrible, as usual, this season. I have always said that the NFL needs to spend a little money, and hire full time refs who work only for the NFL 365 days a year. Younger, more fit, better trained officials whose only job is to know and enforce the rules, and whose jobs security is only as strong as their performance (like the players and the coaches they are officiating).
