Great to see you having fun with all of these great figures Harry.

I am sure it has been answered before but can I ask where that castle came from?

Actually, I can't remember if anyone's asked that question Scott.
I picked it up around 3 years ago in a Chinese curio shop in Dubai. It's, of course, a stylised representation of the Great Wall of China and is made of fibreglass.
I was looking for something to use with the few Crusader figures I have and it worked to a certain extent as you can see from these very early photos.

Once I found where I could get some basic craft materials I decided to incorporate it into one of those generic bases I tend to use for different photo-shoots.
Here’s a few photos of the job in progress;

First job was to fill in the square towers so that I could place soldiers in them. This is some kitchen strainers fixed in place with two-part epoxy.

Then fill in the holes at the front to resemble medieval drains. I used dinner table place-mats for this.

Next off, was to mount it on the base and get the plaster groundwork on.

Once that was dry, it was on with the paint. I use Chinese calligraphy brushes, add various acrylic colours to some water with a drop of washing up liquid mixed with a bit of plaster dust, then just lash it on.

To be continued.

I do admit, it's not quite finished and I'll probabley replace those "Medieval Drains" with stonework in future, cos I don't think they quite work. But after the final “dusting down” and addition of some vegetation, it provides me with a good accessory for a variety of settings and eras.

Here’s a few more using the “Castle” as a backdrop. Sorry about the rather incongruous backgrounds - printer wasn't working at the time I took these so I had nothing to add to the desert backdrop.
:eek:

Ummm, sorry Mister EoI, I’ll get back to featuring your figures shortly.

Here’s a few I took this morning. Again, sorry for the lack of a proper backdrop behind the "Castle".

Back to East of India figures at last.
These are old photos and I really can’t remember where/when I posted these before.
:eek::eek:
These figures are all packed away now anyway. But hopefully these old snaps will again demonstrate how versatile that “Castle and Base” can be.

So, a return to the new Samurai is coming up after this wee sideshow series of posts.
Hope this encourages anyone looking in to have a go at making their own bases.

Cheers
H
