It's unfortunate that the climate change issue has always been framed in terms of politics. That is what doomed it in the US. Every single person now views it through their own political prism. Like the vaccine and many other things, it is no longer possible to have a rational discussion because everyone has reached a conclusion. I do think there are some who intentionally framed it in this way for political purposes. Using it as a litmus test to further divide people instead of any real concern about the underlying issue. It is extremely naive to suggest that the US could cut off the use of fossil fuels in the near term. It would also make little difference to climate change even if that occurred since most of the pollution comes from places like China and India that have no intention to forfeit the competitive economic advantages of the status quo. A more realistic plan might have convinced more folks but that train has left the station. It didn't help that many proponents continued to fly around on their private jets and continue to do so.
