Things that annoy me (9 Viewers)

Sorry third go - I always look at the Chicago Show every year and this year i have the budget, sort of, to go, but not sure. The info they want and the hoops you have to jump through, put together with people doing it all and some have been turned down after landing in the US and put on a plane straight back, the few i have read about or seen on the news it has been a case of an error by the US Customs and it should not have happened or a minor error. One such error was a guy could not give details of where he was staying while there six weeks, he proved he had the money to pay, but no addresses, he was going to hire a car, which he had doccuments for, and just drive, as he wanted to see 'middle America' or as he said 'small town, real America'. But they said no.

Now they want you to supply multiple year social media posts [i have looked at the visa application]. I think the draw of the show will pull me and my $$$$$ and i will go.

One good thing about the visa application, well i could not see it, but there used to question on the visa form with a yes/no tick box that asked "Are you coming to the USA to commit an act of terrorist" and you had to tick yes or no.

If i do come i will have questions, as will visit Chicago itself and need to know a few things, such as some good new and second hand book shops, i like historical non fiction and fiction and military/spy/thriller fiction and hope to be able to bring back enough books on Vietnam, cowboy/Indian novels [for want of a better phrase] and thrillers that i will hardly be able to lift the bag. For those that live in New York or know the shop, i am thinking about stores like The Strand Bookshop in NY, but probably on a smaller scale. My last visit to NY i bought back 84 books, managed to get 4 Dewey Lambdin Napoleonic Naval fiction books which you could not get in the UK at that time.

A problem with AI responses to questions is that, with AI gobbling up text from places such as Wikipedia, and what it takes to be facts, because AI has found them repeated enough, when it is just repeating opinions of people who wrote these texts who included their own bias and tend to be left leaning and pushing their agenda.
Absolutely, AI’s insatiable appetite for knowledge knows no bounds and while currently it simply reflects what information the internet provides, there is growing concern that our tech giants will shortly lose control and AI will reach singularity, as in a point where it exceeds human intelligence…..

Steve your correct about it repeating bias opinions, however I’ve seen a softening of this in recent months and more fact based information being provided. We use a particular AI chat at work, which is specifically designed to provide responses for regulatory and compliance type situations. This system cuts out all the waffle, sticks to the legislation and provides us with responses in a matter of seconds.

Of course now we’re seeing complainants replying to us using AI responses, quoting the law etc. At times the email responses can be quite comical……

"One Battle After Another." I gave this one a try because of the buzz but it was unwatchable. Glamorizing domestic terrorism is bad enough. Boring people to death is even worse. I almost couldn't believe this was a real film much less that it is a contender for best film. Only in Hollywood.
How on earth does this trash 🗑️ win awards?

I don’t understand the whole illegal immigration thing in the slightest, not only in the US, but also across the UK & Europe?
It makes no sense. Why would you allow illegal migrates to invade your country, especially those with entirely different cultural and religion. It’s bizarre. Why have open boarders?
It’s almost like this is being done on purpose? To maybe destroy each country from within, due to some werid sense of guilt?

And why are folks objecting to illegal migrates being deported and deliberately obstructing law enforcement officials from removing these overstayers? It’s crazy!
It's control, bring people in pay for them with native taxpayer money and get them allowed to vote so you never lose control.

I guess the same reasoning is behind the Muslim influx across Europe and the UK….
The left naively think that they have the same aims and will be able to control them.

The left in Iran thought that too, being part of the drive to depose the Shah, in the islamic revolution in 1979. Those who did not flee or were abroad at the time, paid for that nativity with their lives.

I am good with immigration enforcement so long as it is fair.

There are thousands of wealthy “illegals” who live in the US without fear of being deported. They live amongst us while not paying a dime in taxes while enjoying everything from infrastructure to public schools. ICE never goes near them.

The “protestors” and their selective rage can eat it too.

I do not recall them lining up and blocking traffic when ICE deported hundreds of illegal Korean Hyundai factory workers.

I wish ICE would deport all of the hypocrites in this country.

PA has a nearly .60 per gallon tax on gasoline. It's unreal. With all that revenue surely we have great schools. No. The kids are dumb as rocks. Surely we have great roads. No. They are falling apart. Surely we have great bridges and overpasses. No. Have to wonder where all that money goes. And that doesn't even take account of the lottery money which must be in the hundreds of millions. We not only pay a state tax but also a local city tax. Counting the days to retirement and getting out.

I was going to start a geopolitical thread about the current state of the world, however thought better of it. Plus don’t fancy getting banned from entering the US for life, for posting something in social media about he who can’t be named. 🤭😂🤪

Could you please point out the "wealthy illegals" that are living in our country? I'm not being argumentative I really would like to know who you are referring to.

California and Minnesota aren't the only corrupt states. We are famous for it here in Jersey. Think how nice it would be if we had honest people running things.

My Dad they could get as much as 18 inches of snow this weekend in TN. That's more snow than they get in about five years. It's one thing to get snow in the great frozen NE where they have snow removal equipment and people with some idea of how to drive in it, but it's a disaster down south. If that pans out, it's going to be nightmare. I imagine the grocery stores are already empty.

They're calling for 18 inches of snow here too, Sunday night into Monday...........there goes my football gathering plans for Sunday, guess I'll be watching this game solo now, that's just swell.

The heavy snow seems to be trending north toward us. Imagine if the power goes out and there is no football? In PA, whenever the wind blows the power can be out for days. Like a third world country. Can't imagine it in a blizzard.

Yeah, it's the same around here, if the power goes out, time to get out my dogsled and go to the sports bar up the street..............only to find out their power is out too.

Annoying, even an American staple is not safe from the Chinese - Chinese owned company acquires Nathan's Hot Dog in all cash deal at $450M.

And in another interesting turn of events - Stoli USA may be forced into Chapter 7 Liquidation. One of the reasons is a cyberattack from a few years ago that crippled its financial system..........ok, call me a cynic, Stoli USA broke off from Mother Russia (this is one of the oligarchs who fell out with Putin). Coincidence that a cyber-attack literally took the Company down over time..........most cyber-attacks of this nature originate in Russia......................:)

The snow projections keep going up, up, up. That's what we now call "Rams weather." LOL.
The Supermarket today looked like the end of days, people buying several cases of water along with milk, bread, eggs and the most popular item, toilet paper.

All I can figure is people get dehydrated from shoveling, have a craving for french toast and then have to run to the bathroom afterward...................
