College Football 2013 (1 Viewer)

Nice wins for Tennessee and Florida St. this week. FSU went into as hostile an environment as there is in college football and put a beat down on a very good Clemson team. They looks as though they could give Alabama a game. USC and ND was one of the ugliest games that I've had the misfortune to see. No points in the second half by either team. SC had more penalties than points. Just awful. ND wasn't any better. When Tommy Rees went down they put in a backup QB who couldn't start at a middling high school. All they could do was run the ball and punt.

Clemson - MD is on ESPN at 3:30 tomorrow. I will NOT be watching. :rolleyes2: Can't imagine why this is on ESPN unless the network thinks a Clemson blowout will bring in viewers.. CHris

This will be ugly. UMd's starting Qb, Brown, is out of the game and they lost their offensive playmakers last week thru injury. I will watch it, for a while anyway, just because I haven't seen Clemson play this year. I am expecting an FSU-type defeat/shutout. UMd's season sure went south in a hurry.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I hate to pour on here and I am going to sound like a terrible alumni. BUT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I did not and still do not like Randy Edsall. I think he is an arrogant whiner and just can't get around that. I hate to say this as an alumni, but I hope Clemson drills them. I would like to see another 63-0 (just like the Noles). I still can not get over the firing of Fridge (which fine, that happens) but then how do you hire this bum over the other choices that were available. Let's be honest, last year, he got his rear handed to him week in, week out, this year he plays Sisters 1,2,3,4 of the Poor and then catches a marginally bad WVU team cold. Then what happens, he plays a real team and gets crushed by FSU, then squeaks a coin toss at UVA, then again, blown away by a decent Wake team. Get the picture? Anytime they play a legit team, they get their cans kicked and if you hear this donkey in the press, he thinks he is an elite coach with an elitely talented team.

Sorry, no go in my book. Thanks for the rant!

By the way, I am investigating a school to take a few classes at so that I can replace my UMD diploma......................

Tom, you're not alone in your opinion of Edsall. I thought it was time for Fridge to go, but UMd had a couple of superior choices they bypassed to get Edsall. It sure hasn't worked out. As for replacing the UMd diploma, fuhgetta bout it. You're one of us...one of us...one of us...:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Color me shocked, so far. UMd still in the game, down 16-7, at the half. Considering UMd lost it's starting Qb, FB, TE, and 2 top receivers last week at WF, this showing is really remarkable. Also want to congratulate Navy, beating Pitt 24-21, and Minnesota for knocking off Nebraska. -- Al

Al:

The Terps are playing with pride!

Jason, that must be it. Clemson only leads 19-13 halfway through the Third. It is a surprisingly good game. -- Al
UMD losses 40-27 but they acquitted themselves well. Stayed competitive through 3 quarters until turnovers killed their chances. Thought the team did very well, especially scoring so many points with most of their offensive starters on the sidelines. Maybe they will get that 6th win this season. -- Al

Al,
I know, this is one where you can't fault the kids playing and I am glad they played for their pride, but part of me smiles at yet another Edsall loss. Time to take out the trash TERPS! Let's buy the bum out and move on.

On another note, classy tribute to Bobby Bowden today at Florida State. I met him personally a number of times and what a true blue football guy, personable too, he makes you feel like his son or grandson, just a 3000 watt smile and a personality to go with it. Nice to see him walk out on the field and spike the spear prior to the game! Still gotta love that old riverboat gambler, Noles look for real this year, should be an interesting finish.

Al/Tom:

I know it is little solace after a loss, but the Terps played one heck of a game that everyone thought would be an absolute blowout from the opening minute. There is something to be said for a team that affords itself like that against all odds.

Tough loss for Navy at Notre Dame yesterday. Not much defense in evidence all game, by either team, and it came down to the last possession. Navy lost possession on downs and ND ran the last few seconds out to win 38-34. Thought Navy could pull it out but it wasn't to be.:( -- Al

I have to give Navy kudos. Their kids actually have to go to class and behave themselves. That puts them at an enormous disadvantage with the rest of the college football world where anything goes. It borders on a miracle that they, and any of the other military academies, can field a team that is still competitive. They played a heck of a game yesterday. ND was simply too big to stop in the second half and scored on every drive by running the ball.

Some big games tonight. My picks:

Baylor 42 Oklahoma 31

Oregon 47 Stanford 20

Alabama 31 LSU 27

Pitt 30 ND 17

Do you know why all these games are being played on Thursday. Seems like they should be played on Saturday.

Yes, it could cost them a shot at Bama.

Brad:

My bet is that it does. FSU will most likely win the rest of their games and play 'Bama.

The one wildcard is actually the SEC. 'Bama could lose and then all bets are off.
