Corona virus (3 Viewers)

Tom, heard a report, there's a published paper that studied the cause. Originally thought to be bats sold in the wet market, we've all heard that. But 60 people interviewed say that the horseshoe bat was not sold there. However two labs within 7 miles of the market were testing that species. Theory is the virus accidentally infected a worker who in turn infected others. Not thought to be a weapons project. Not the final answer of course but interesting. Chris

Terp152,

Roger that. Back in early February I read about the Virology Institute in Wuhan...like the largest in the country. Then there was the conspiracy mish-mash that followed suit, but I did find some credence to the POSSIBILITY of a flub-up at their facility. I mean its possible, its happened before. Years ago, here in San Antonio, two baboons escaped from the South West Research Facility and they had to kill them. They were test animals and who know what they were carrying, but as quick as it came out in the news...it was gone. So, it was a serious flub up and it proved there is a possibility of "something" getting out. BUT, its China and they never tell the truth. For all we know they were making bat zombies.

God knows what other bio-tech accidents have happened in the world that we don't know about that were covered up. Regardless of the bat, other poultry and raw meats are sold in the wet market with no regulation. I'm not saying were perfect...ask PETA...but its curtains for a business if they don't follow FDA/USDA/OSHA rules in food preparation.

Last thought: I pray, SUPER PRAY that we have a smooth year outside of the virus. I.E. no terrorist acts, no mass shootings, no natural disasters, no drought, floods, tornados, locust, rivers of blood or any other biblically apocalyptic wraths that may come to pass. Honestly, it can't get any worse, but it is going to get worse. We have to brace ourselves and I wish no man or woman to be infected with this virus. I wish no sorrow on the families affected and even though I don't like the guy in the WH...I envy him not and will turn my double chinned fat cheek and pray for him too. Like I said before the mission is clear: SAVE LIVES.

Tom,
Being critical of our leaders and debating their policies is just part of being a Democracy. I don't think anyone here is blaming the President for the virus but there is legitimate criticism of his performance on addressing it. The facts are that he played it down, even called it a "hoax" and it would "disappear" on its own.........We lost valuable time in quarantining and developing testing on a massive scale. He did the right thing closing off China early but other things were not done timely or effectively.
My biggest problem is that we have not gone to a true national response and left it up to individual states who end up competing with each other and FEMA for life saving equipment. While Louisiana went on lockdown all the surrounding states (Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas and Alabama) stayed open.....how stupid is that. The governor of Florida was allowing people to congregate until today when he finally locked down. It only takes a few people traveling from state to state to start an avalanche of infections.

This is a war and should be treated like one. During WWII as you know, the government mandated factories to produce military equipment and put vital resource on ration. We worked together as one country and saved the world from fascism.
If we don't criticize, constructively, and civilly debate to help make decisions on who we want to be our representatives we are just sheep. We should not, however, get personal and insulting....that goes both ways.

Rich,
in all due respect, there is not one levy of criticism in public that has been levied against Trump with respect by the Press. There are way too many overt ulterior motives and that is a plain fact. Honestly and it really doesn't matter nor worth wasting our collective breath on!

Getting past that as I really don't care about that part in the least, the time is they need to move on together which arguably other than some of Pelosi's stunts, they have. I think the Governors and Feds have tried to work together and I give Cuomo the most credit in that area as they have put aside their differences and I think Trump respects him for a lot of reasons.

Regarding Louisiana, completely different due to the transient population of Mardi Gras, that is the direct correlation to the spike. I have a client with offices throughout LA, the problem they have is the Warehouse and Office in New Orleans, the rest of the areas are not nearly as inundated with cases (if at all), again, population is a key issue. I think we will continue to see dramatic spikes in areas of dense populations, its a mathematical equation. Regarding the other States mentioned, I think they addressed it as the need arose. In this case, being in front of the wave before it broke (As example Maryland by luck or what have you) has worked better than being reactionary. That can be said in all decisions and it is really hindsight you are fighting then.

Florida never dreamed people would flood there, why? I don't know but they didn't think ahead that is for sure and probably blameworthy, but I have a hard time blaming any of them, easier to sympathize with them as again, this was a blind tsunami no one dreamed of nor expected.

Again, all of this becomes Monday morning Q-backing at this point and honestly is a waste of breath. They have to deal with the here and now, only way to get through this, the other stuff has to wait. They have to fight it and that is about the only thing to do.

I am sure in 4, 5, 6, 8 ore etc month's time, somebody like Adam Schiff will use this as his next Waterloo moment and waste trillions more of our dollars pointing fingers instead of taking that money and learning from the mistakes and moving forward. That is an unfortunate consequence of our current Republic!

National unified response is hard to achieve in this day and age and probably has been since 9/11. Even then if you recall, there is a certain House of Representative Member from the State of California who voted against bombing the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. If we could not unite as 100% against that terrible tragedy, then.....................i am sure you get my meaning. It is a sad state of affairs but one we are squarely in. My main focus is getting the hell out of this mess and moving on with life as soon as safe to do so. That is just about my only focus, anything else is frankly depressing.

All,

Just a thought: what about the cabbies and uber drivers? I can't imagine they are doing well.

Waiters and waitresses? Done.

Retail folks? All those who work in the mall and strip centers.

Hair stylists and nail salons?

Bartenders?

Theater owners and employees?

You and I could have an epic debate but this is not the time or place. I do think your hatred of the free press is way over played and I would hate to see what our government would get away with without a free press.
Just one note on Pelosi, I am not a fan but her push back on the stimulus package to get more transparency, more help for those who lost their jobs and more help for hospitals cannot be deemed a "stunt". Probably one of the best things she has done.
Anyway most of us are stuck here and on this planet so we can only try to realize our mistakes and not make them again.
Peace brother!

Same here, Robin.
I haven't seen gas prices this low in a decade.

A couple of months ago I was looking at $2.99 - $3.29 per gallon.
Today, my last day I am able to go out without getting arrested or fined it was $1.39 - $1.47 per gallon.

I used to hate going to the recycling center / dump, now I enjoy the trip since it does get me out of the house.... {sm3}

I could go on an on about the Stimulus and how ridiculous it is b/c i have to deal with it for a living. That said, I will tell you in a nutshell why I think the Stimulus is crap for the Individual American: Here is the easiest way to get money into the hands of Americans in this matter: For those with income of $85K or less per household, the check system they set up will work. For those making between 85K - $350K per household, they simply could have rolled back the State and Local Tax Deduction and would have produced a lot of helluva lot more benefit for the lower to middle class while not wind-falling the rich (Additionally any family making 85K or less who itemizes would have additional benefit). It was easy yet too practical for our politicians b/c it actually may have been beneficial.

I hate opinions that are rammed down our throats everyday by people who want to be the news instead of reporting it and no matter how you slice it, it is harder to find a good journalist today than a hack, you really have to search.

I would rather focus on the ones who truly are rising to the occasion and doing what is best for the recovery. Those who are choosing to grandstand and politicize it I am really trying to tune out.

I really do feel sorry for those who are in New Jersey in a lot of different ways. Y'all just can't catch a break. I could fill an entire page on your Governor from a business (my profession) standpoint. Today, he received his first of what I think will be many lawsuits from the private sector. There is going to be a whole lot of rotten long past these trying times.

Item to add, I am thankful thus far that we have (my family) listened as much as humanly possible to the warnings and are doing our best to limit any interaction out side of our house. I do encourage everyone to believe the seriousness and I would say that most people on here do. I am as frustrated as anyone with people who are not doing it. If some of the things I post on here appear to be negative or argumentative, they are not personal. I would rather focus on what can do to move forward then the droning of why we got here. That will be dealt with I hope in time in a proactive matter. My goal is to get through this the best as possible and start enjoying all of life! And as my good friend Brad said before, I need a break from this thread!

I heard on the news that one of our aircraft carriers in Guam has a bunch of infected sailors. That's bad news.

Sometime you just wonder what makes people tick! A friend's son was working out at a neighbor's house, who's father just happens to be a police officer. The offirer . . . who should know better . . . was exposed, but kept quiet about it. He later tested positive for CONVID-19 and is now quarantined. In the meantime, he has exposed his fellow officers and a neighbor's son . . . who happens to be dietebic . . . to the disease. Sounds like reckless endangerment to me!

Yes,the USS Theodore Roosevelt. They were in port in Vietnam (I didn't know our naval ships went there}.There were suppose to be only 16 cases there at the time but some of our guys got infected. Now I believe there are 93 infected and 86 showing systems. They can't take off all non-infected as there are nuclear power plant, weapons, planes and all kind of computer and electronic equipment. It's state of the art.Feel sorry for those struck on those cruise ships.Nobody will let them land.

You lucky so and so. I heard prices SA paying and way below what paying in Qld{sm2}.

Brett, don't know if you Aussie's have been doing this, but over here loads of folks are placing their soft toy Teddy Bears in their house windows for the kids to see.

Under our lockdown rules, we've seen an explosion of people out walking of all ages. To keep the kids entertained neighbours have been placing soft toys in windows and in and around their front gardens for the children to spot. Its actually quite cool and the bears and other soft toys are popping up all over the place. ^&grin

People here in the US better wake up and take this S%+ seriously. They really should shelter in place across the country and put a stop to this virus. Uncle Sam should led the charge and tell all the states to do this across the board. If the economy tanks SO WHAT....... We can recover. But we can’t recover a loved one.

Very, very bad news. The military cannot get sick. It takes away from our national security. The USAF has decided NOT to report on cases at Lackland and elsewhere. They can't as it affects military preparedness and I agree. They enemy cannot know how this is effecting our military.

Venezuela: Its not about drugs, its about oil and Maduro is not a player. Guaido is and is recognized and will be happy to sell oil to the US. The Naval Base off of Roatan is finally operational and ready to support US Naval operations. The USMC Marines have been and will continue to do anti-narco operations in Southern Belize and Guatemala. We've had a steady military presence down there for years, so I aint buying the drug interdiction sell. Its about oil and a stabilized country to produce it and sell it. Under Maduro that is not happening. So, he's gotta go...according to US policy makers.

IF I'm not mistaken the Carrier in question is apart of the 7th Fleet loaded with F-18's and new F32's...I think. 5000 plus sailors aboard and if out of service because of the virus another one will have to be sent from San Diego to replace it...until everyone is well. NOT good news at all!!!
